fakfak
I've been looking around for info, and I found this on a guitar site: "I got a reasonably convincing (and much quieter, warmer sound) Leslie effect by turning my MXR Phase 90 up all the way, then backing it off about 3/8 to 1/4 of an inch. Turn on some mild overdrive AFTER the Phase 90, and you'll get that sweet "breathy" doppler sound" I've not tried that myself, but assuming it works, it's good odds Jon does something similar as he does have all the mentioned gear in his setup (it's also worth noting that they've stopped playing the songs he used to use the Phase 90 for, and he added the relatively mild distortion of the Tube Screamer for this tour.) Malcolm-Edge
That would make complete sense. As there is some time given between Politik into Lovers to adjust levels on the board of need be. It could also be what he is doing on the album...Tell us the results fakfak
fakfak
"Tell us the results fakfak" I don't have access to a phase 90, so I can't test it...:(

Malcolm-Edge
Do you have a headphone output on the amp?
princesanji
i do ------ i have tried it and well... it's shit, far far far too many noises (produced by my amp =( ) i tried it with a mic, way better but still some noise. where sould i upload it (not youtube or any kind of that...)? file: MP3, size: 353,5 KB (361952 Bytes), length: 22sec well, the sound is just a rough try, but to my ears it's ok. when you cover stuff, it's always an approach, not 100% exact, but who wants that anyways? the record itself would sound better with the rest of the song and if it was mixed/remastered properly, i suppose. however, don't kill me for killing your ears... ;) -------------------------------------------------------------- here's the rapidshare link: http://rapidshare.com/files/254876278/lij-lead-intro.mp3.html (remember: it can be downloaded only 10 times)
Malcolm-Edge
rapidshare? The noise is to be expected. Your sound card is partly to blame. The quality of chords you use. And mastering. Post it up anyways. We'd love to hear it.
splintercell37
princesanji, try Windows Live Skydrive next time. No download limits! I can imagine that would sound better in real life. I think it needs more.......er, chorus? The effect that makes it sound more hollow, more surrounding. I don't know for certain, I'm not an electric guitarist, but I'm sure someone here knows what I mean ;) But really, it's a great effort! :) Edit: A touch of chorus + some more reverb in Adobe Audition produced a nice result, but I'm not sure you're playing correctly? http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtd.asp?ppn=mn0074634 That's more or less what Jonny plays live (if you look on youtube), if you're curious for a more accurate sound. Mess with it a bit though, I think the person who tabbed that was rushing through. Not that it really matters...yours sounds pretty good either way. :)
TyM218
Might be the mic your using to. They use Shure SM-57's to record guitars in studios.

Is it totally awesome? :) splintercell37: i'm a linux-guy, i abolished windows ;) As much as I love linux (ubuntu's my fave), you can't argue with 25gb free online storage. http://cid-45fe6b62e24915cc.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Public Nice and easy. yellowtalk
I had a dream a few nights ago that I met Jonny at a cafe. He wrote down some instructions for me, how to achieve the Lovers In Japan sound. But of course I woke up.
splintercell37
Haha! Typical. If only our dreams were more considerate. Anyone got an update on this?
TyM218
What do you need to know? The noise is Jonny playing under some heavy reverb and delay, with slight distortion. Reverb is probably produced by his rack gear.
fakfak
"Reverb is probably produced by his rack gear." The heavy reverb is certainly produced by the Eventide Processor in the rack, The boss Reverb pedal is only used for old songs.

He's even started to play some older songs with it i.e. Slide parts in Trouble: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFbxjTexYS0]YouTube - Coldplay - Trouble (Live At BBC)[/ame] Out of interest, here's a video showing presets from the Eventide Eclipse. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M7Y0vSzeHc]YouTube - Eventide Eclipse FX demo[/ame] If you want a few pointers I believe Jonny could either be using the effect at 1:17-1:30 and/or 7:10 - End
PianoRocker
I have alot of guitar software on Windows and alot in Logic Pro on Mac so I'll try to find a noise that'll be something like this. It's more sustain than reverb tho..
PianoRocker
This is what sounds good: Little bit chorus. Alot of reverb. Little bit overdrive. Sustain pedal. BUT if you want the best sound. Little bit reverb Little bit overdrive Little bit Chorus And tremolo picking. If you want to know how the second option sounds.. listen to Life in Technicolor II live version.
