So, up to 2006/2007, Chris (not so often Jonny) used Martin Guitars. 2007/2008 (Viva La Vida time) he started using Gibson Blues Kings.

 

But my qustion now is: How the heck are they recorded/picked up?!?!

Piezo Pickups under the bridge, piezo pickups glued onto the wood (inside/outside), magnetic pickups in the hole, microphones inside, whatever?

 

 

 

 

 

 

however, i want to get a new guitar, this time it should be an acoustic guitar. my FIRST acoustic one. i'm mainly playing coldplay, so:

what form would be good? what pickup should be in there? should i get a cheap one (100- 200€) or a little more expensive one? (up to 500€).

(i want to use steel strings by the way)

Yamana or Takamine are very good to start with.

The best way to pick a guitar is to go dedicate a day to playing a few ( at more than one shop ! )

 

I have played for a while and I always tell people that some of the "nicer" guitars don't always play the best. You can pick up a beater somewhere and it may sing to you.

 

Go try a few out, sleep on it and pull the trigger.

 

At the end of the day, get what makes you happy, what feels good in your hands and what sound good to YOUR ear!

Get an acoustic-electric that's already put together, especially if it's your first guitar. It can be very difficult to add what you need on your own and you could easily screw up the guitar. Just my recommendation.

what ist generally the most "natural" way of picking up a guitar ?(except microphone)

piezo? i mean, what gives the most typically acoustic guitar sound through an amp?

You can't go wrong with any Fishman under saddle pickups. I would recommend the matrix natural.

Yes. Jonny (and sometimes Will) started playing these at the same time as well, and they both still do.

i was thinking about going out and trying the blues king. but just curious, how do u know that they aren't using an L-00 or something ? and aren't the gibson blues kings already picked up ?

i'd say the head is different...

To the best of my knowledge, there is only one L series model in production at this time.
