i heard that about cichlids. . .i have a betta which is from the same group of fish (betta is a siamese fighting fish)

fish are really expensive though, we had some tropical fish and the cheapest were like £5 and they would live like a week

anchovies are cheap

srs?

my betta is a crowntail, which is the most expensive at petsmart lol. . .he was about $6 or $7. . . i used to keep guppies and they were about $2 or $3 each lol, same with platies. . . neon tetras are really cheap but really small too.

the most expensive part of keeping fish is the setting up of the tank. :P my tank was $50 for a 5 gallon and it came with a filter, hood, and light, and then i bought a heater for ~$7 and a thermometer for $2, then the decorations totaled about $25

if you were buying cichlids (angel fish) though, those can get super expensive.
