When Young Ben was healed by the OTHERS, Richard told them he will not be Ben, he will loose his innocense. We can asume Ben was placed in the water, died, and was a vessel for another soul.

 

Same thing happened with Sayid...Sayid is dead and was a vessel for another soul via the Healing Spring.

 

I know this is gonna sound really stupid but bear with me please.

 

I belive the soul used to inhabit Sayid is Charles Whitmore. Havent you noticed Whitmore accent when Sayid spoke after getting healed? It is definately NOT his Iraq accent...but his real life accent that is the same as Whitmore's.

 

Sayid is a vessle for Whitmore.
