I'm new to this forum so apologies if there is already a thread. I did search back but couldn't find one.

 

Anyway, anyone else here a fan? I remember when I first heard him, it revolutionised my music taste. Going to see him next Tuesday in Manchester and I'm really excited. Saw him there last year and when I met him backstage, he drew me a picture.

 

I recommend everyone listens to him at least once. He is very lo-fi at times, ut once you get it you get it. People may have seen the documentary about him 'The Devil and Daniel Johnston' and he has been covered by people like Beck, The Flaming Lips, Tom Waits, Mercury Rev, Eels and TV on the Radio. Kurt Cobain also wore his t-shirt for a month and that generated a lot of publicity for him.

 

What are your favourite albums by him and have you any experiences of meeting him?

Sure does.

He's hard to get into, but once you do there is loads of stuff.

I recommend the documentary 'The Devil and Daniel Johnston' as mentioned in the first post, even for people who don't like his music. His life story is pretty incredible.

Yeah it's always him. The early recordings were done in his garage with a tape recorder and he was a lot more high pitched and frantic, whereas eventually he started recording in studios and he sounded different vocally.

I just started hearing some of his songs, and I love it :wacky: I even learned "Honey I Sure Miss You" and I can't wait to see the documentary :nice:
