mc_squared
Tiger Woods unconscious for SIX minutes after car crash outside home following 'row with wife' By Mail Foreign Service Last updated at 9:30 AM on 28th November 2009 Comments (71) Add to My Stories Tiger Woods was unconscious for six minutes following a mysterious car crash outside his Florida home yesterday after reportedly arguing with his wife. The world number one golfer first hit a fire hydrant then smashed into a neighbour's tree moments after leaving his £24million Orlando mansion during the early hours. According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Woods was left unconscious for six minutes but breathing before coming round. His wife, Swedish model Elin Nordegren, is said to have smashed open the back window of the £500million star’s car with a golf club to help get her husband out. The sheriff's office would not say who dialled 911 and have not, as is usual, released a recording of the tape. Argument? Tiger Woods and wife Elin Nordegren, who reportedly helped rescue him from his crashed car by smashing the back window with a golf club Initially it was feared Woods, 33, was seriously hurt and he was taken to hospital. But it later emerged he was not badly injured. He suffered ‘facial lacerations’ but was released later in the day. The golfer, who could face traffic charges over the crash, is believed to have hit his head on the steering wheel. The airbag in his powerful Cadillac Escalade 4x4 did not inflate, which suggests the vehicle was travelling under 33mph. And further mystery surrounded the bizarre accident after police revealed alcohol did not play a role in the crash. Home: The mansion where Woods and his wife live in Isleworth, Florida Cadillac Escalade: A powerful 4x4 like the one Woods was driving at the time The Florida Highway Patrol report read: 'Driver had just pulled out of the driveway at his residence... As V1 began to drive on Deacon Circle, V1 struck a fire hydrant. The front of V1 then struck a tree. The driver was transported to Health Central Hospital. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.' Last night TMZ, the website that broke the story of Michael Jackson’s death, claimed Woods and his 29-year-old wife had rowed before the golfer got in his car. One police source called it ‘a domestic issue'. Although they also stated that Woods was not drunk, he could be charged if he was not wearing his seatbelt - an offence in Florida - as well as other minor traffic offences. At first it was thought he had been seriously injured, but last night Woods’s agent Mark Steinberg issued a statement saying: ‘Tiger Woods is fine.’ The mayor of Windermere, Florida, Gary Bruhn, said the golfer’s injuries were minor, involving cuts to his face. ‘Basically it was facial lacerations, and as I’m understanding it, nothing that serious,’ he said. A Highway Patrol spokesman said Woods was taken to Health Centre Hospital in Ocoee. The accident happened at 2.25am local time yesterday. Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Florida, where Woods was treated for cuts Family man: Woods with his wife Elin and first child Sam Alexis in 2007 Orange County Fire Rescue received a call for aid three minutes later and Mr Woods was taken to hospital by ambulance. A hospital spokesman said that by 2.30pm local time Mr Woods had been treated and released. Highway Patrol did not report the accident until just after 2pm local time. A spokesman added the crash remains under investigation. There was almost no sign of the crash outside Woods' luxury home last night, apart from an orange-and-white street barricade on his front lawn and a newly dug hole where the fire hyrdrant had been. About 10 feet away, a foot-long tyre mark was visible in the neighbour's front garden near a tree with freshly damaged bark. The oak tree had a few scuff marks on its trunk but was largely undamaged. The U.S. star was the world’s highest-paid professional athlete in 2008, earning an estimated £67million from winnings and endorsements. Among the most successful golfers of all time, he has won 14 major golf championships – the second highest of any male player – and 71 PGA Tour events, all while still at a young age in the sport. He married Miss Nordegren in 2004 after they were introduced at the 2001 British Open championship. The pair have homes in America and Sweden, but live with their two children, Sam Alexis and Charlie Axel, at their mansion in the Orlando suburb of Isleworth. The exclusive suburb, a short drive away from famous tourist attractions such as Universal Studios and Walt Disney World Resort, is a playground for the rich. Homes there start from £600,000 with some reaching beyond £10million. Planet Hollywood chief executive Robert Earl, basketball player Shaquille O’Neal and golfer Mark O’Meara all live there. Earlier this month Woods won the Australian Masters by two shots and became only the third American to win the title, following in the footsteps of O’Meara. Woods’s father, Earl, succumbed to cancer in 2006. He was the architect of the golfer’s career and at the time of his death, his son described him as ‘my best friend and greatest role model’. Guest howyousawtheworld
Yeah, this has been the strangest event I have ever seen and Woods is doing himself no favours. Yeah, we've gathered that he has cheated on his wife probably, but why the hell did he crash his car into a feckin tree?! Anyway what does it matter. He's well behind Federer and Schumacher as the greatest sportsman of the modern era!
