Just got hold of The Recordings of the Middle East. I can say that it's one of my new favorite bands. I think if you're a fan of Grizzly Bear, The Antlers, etc., you will fall in love with Middle East.

Plus, it sometimes reminds me of Sigur Ros...especially in "Pig Food" and "Tsietsi"..

Great pick up. Have been aware of them throughout the year. They have an EP out, and it's decent. Seen them live, too and they sound more amazing. Blood is a standout track, they could have the potential to produce an amazing debut album. They're also playing a lot of shows and festivals in Australia this summer.

And they are from a place called Townsville, in Queensland. Pretty good for a small town band!

they're my favourite australian band of 2009. i missed out on seeing them last month but will be sure to catch them at BDO. another band whose debut LP will be massively anticipated.

they've even been picked up by Pitchfork who have been really loving them. so any release will be sure to get some international recognition.

I'm also looking forward to the debut.

bump. Everyone should definitely listen to this band. I cant believe their from townsville either.

they sound more like a melbourne band. but then again they're too good to be from melbourne ;)

^I see what you did there. Anyone have any news about this band. their website seems kind of thrown together.

^^

debut album? are you talking about their mini-album called The Recordings of the Middle East? its actually just a compilation of all the songs they've recorded over the last 7 -8yrs. the first 5 tracks are from the EP of the same name and the other 3 are just random recordings.

not sure when their debut LP will be out, they're quite busy conquering the world at the moment.

I bought their EP on iTunes after one listen last week. They jumped out right from the first note.

^^

Really?

Well, I didn't do that much research before I posted, tbh. I just figured that it was their debut because it has an albumlike length. But that's actually even better because I love The Recordings of the Middle East and can't wait for more. :nice:

So is that all there is so far?

I too love "The Recordings of The Middle East." It's some awesome stuff. :wacky:

thats about all they've recorded but they have been playing some new tracks on their tour. you should try and catch their performance at Coachella next weekend, it will be webcast on the Facebook page of 5 Gum.
