  1. this is me...i haven't posted any pics in ages!:)
  2. Can't resist downloading the leak because Beirut is my all-time favorite band. I thought just because The Rip Tide is their 3rd LP, I might be disappointed if it is not up to par with the earlier albums. Well I wasn't disappointed at all! The album contains only 9 songs, but those are quality songs. There isn't any weak song on the album! I guess it is because Beirut's music keeps on evolving, its themes and influences are always changing. I think in Gulag Orkestar was inspired by gypsy and Balkan music. The Flying Club Cup was reminiscent of French chansons. The EP March of the Zapotec was inspired by mariachi music. The new album on the other hand is the most organic music Beirut has ever made. I think it was inspired by Zach's earlier recordings as Realpeople in Joys of Losing Weight. The band keeps the music fresh everytime. That's why i'm always excited to hear new stuff from Beirut. My favorite song from the album is Payne's Bay. Very sublime song.
  3. Lots of talented artists here! I recently learned the basics of flash animation. Here's the first one I made: my first ever flash animation
  4. @Ainsley: those are really mind blowing illustrations! very awesome! : :)
  5. sorry it's taking a long time for me to post my review. i had some personal issues to settle. anyway, i'll be posting mine either this saturday or sunday :D thanks for your patience, mixtape partner!
  6. yes! haha. i tried to put entirely new songs in my mix, but i ended up including some old favorites. some of them really goes well with the theme and tone of my mix! :D
  7. That's my mixtape! Wow, I'm so glad you liked almost all the songs :D So here's the tracklist: 1. "I sold my hands for food so please feed me" - Get Well Soon [Rest Now Weary Head...You Will Get Well Soon, 2008] 2. "Sylvia" - The Antlers [Hospice, 2009] 3. "I stand corrected" - Vampire Weekend [Vampire Weekend, 2008] 4. "Rio" - Hey Marseilles [To Travel and Trunks, 2010] 5. "Cliquot" - Beirut [The Flying Club Cup, 2007] 6. "Close your eyes, we are blind" - Alaska in Winter feat. Zach Condon of Beirut [Dance Party in the Balkans, 2007] 7. "Squalor victoria" - The National [boxer, 2007] 8. "The snow leopard" - Shearwater [Rook, 2008] 9. "They are night zombies!! They are neighbors!! They have come back from the dead!! Ahhhh! - Sufjan Stevens [illinois, 2005] 10. "Graceland" - Casiotone for the Painfully Alone [Graceland EP, 2006] 11. "Scythian empire" - Andrew Bird [Armchair Apocrypha, 2007] 12. "Against me" - Why? [Eskimo Snow, 2009] 13. "My body's a zombie for you" - Dead Man's Bones [Dead Man's Bones, 2009] 14. "Unwind" - Julian Plenti [Julian Plenti is Skyscraper, 2009] Notes: 1. Get Well Soon is one of the best underrated bands I've come across :) I recommend listening to its albums! 5. Vocals by Owen Pallett and not by Zach Condon 8. Some claimed that the instrumentation sounds similar to Radiohead's Pyramid Song. Being a Radiohead fan, did you hear any similarity? :) 10. A cover of Paul Simon's Graceland 13. Dead Man's Bones lead singer is actor Ryan Gosling  14. Julian Plenti is Paul Banks (Interpol) :D Two Zombie songs! LOL. I didn't realize. Thanks for enjoying the mix! :D I'm very happy.
  8. Just listened to mine :) Will make a review after a few more listens :D BTW, can I already post my tracklisting because my mixtape has already been reviewed?
  9. i'm downloading my mixtape now :)
  10. I almost missed this! :-o Sign me up, please!
  11. the simple solution is to use Dropbox!!! Install this program (it's tiny). It will create a dropbox folder in your hard drive. dropbox will allow you to register for a free 2GB account. put all the songs in that folder and it will automatically sync the files in your dropbox account, and you can access them wherever, through the web, other computers, mobile phone. :D https://www.dropbox.com/ the setup and implementation are easy to do!
  12. firefox coz it's the only browser that could look like this: aside from the add-ons and pages load fast
  13. thanks :) i just used point-and-shoot camera for that and not SLR. you can't just say that it's just about filters as any one can use photoshop filters but if you're using crappily shot photos (composition, point-of-view) i bet the result won't be even be average.
  14. I would like to ask if The Escapist could compile the mixtapes and tracklisting after everyone has posted their reviews and tracks, for easy reference later? I am planning to download some of the mixes in the future. I guess it would be handy to see the links in one place. :) thanks :)
  15. Thanks for posting the track list! :D
