Why did Coldplay do Lost+?

Featured Replies

Total white girl moment here, but I didn't like it at all for a long time. Then I saw all the words to Jay-z's part written out once, and I've liked it ever since.

I think his version really does add something to the song thematically. It shifts the meaning a bit and deepens it. And now that I've seen what he's saying on paper, I can always pick out what he's saying and the emotion that's going into it now.

When I heard Lost+ for the first time I really liked it. When I saw Jay-Z's part written down, I liked it even more, and I am always sad when they play the other versions of Lost, because Jay-Z really adds something to the song. In Denmark they always play the versions without Jay-Z - and I then really miss his rap.

So I quite feel the same about Lost+ as you and Pete / Tonsu. :)

i love lost

I bought Prospekts March today.

...Yeah.. not my favorite song.

But i listen to Homecoming all the time, yet skip the Kanye parts.

Not sure why. I don't personally care for it, but since they are good friends with jay-z, maybe that's why...

Yep, Chris, Jay-z, and their respective spouses are great friends, and Chris also loves all forms of music, has absolutely no snobbery about genres at all, which is greatly refreshing. I say this not as a fan of rap at all, myself.

It is the worst version of Lost.

I wish it wasn't in Prospekt's March and that ep will be easy to listen to (not having to skip a song and all).

Just make a new copy without that one song, and you never have to skip - easy!

(Nothing could be simpler, and nothing ever was :P)

Doing a song together just because you're friends really is not a good idea.

At least if that's the real reason.

That's not the real reason - see my points and others' above. Any one of the band could have vetoed the project - they all have equal say in everything they do. Chris is the great friend of Jay-z, but the others all agreed to do it, and they looked STOKED when Jay-z joined them on stage at Wembley (and so was I!) :)

First, Lost ! isn't my favorite song on Viva la Vida. Somedays I like it, sometimes I don't. And I really don't like rap any more, so with Lost+, it's harder ! However, I love the acoustic version.

BUT... I think that doing this song is brilliant. It is significant of Coldplay's open mind. I explain : it's exactly like those people who really love Parachutes and AROBTTH but who hate X&Y and Viva la Vida, because it is too different, because the band tried with the last two albums something new. I like the idea of changing, getting better, mixing styles. If you always do what you're good at, or what you like, at the end you don't do so much, it's like walls are closed on you (^^).

I am proud of myself when I hear with great pleasure Homecoming, with Kanye West. If I didn't knew that Chris was in the song, I would have stopped hearing it after 10 seconds. But he made me listen it entirely, and now I love it. This man can show me how stupid I am, and to make me grow up. That's truely wonderful.
