Heard alot about it too. Doubt it'll reach cinemas here though. Sounds very good...

I'm so glad there's already a thread for this movie. I was getting tired of creating threads for my pretentious thoughts and having them sit there ...

dormant ...

decaying ...

... and lonely. But that will teach me for being pretentious to begin with. that will teach me for typing so much.

Anybody see the movie Before Sunrise. It's a charming little movie staring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy? It's about this American man and this French woman who spend a day together in Vienna. It's really, really charming. The whole movie is basically to two of them talking about various aspects of life, relationships, etc.

That was the first time that I had ever seen a movie where the interaction of two people is the sole force driving the movie forward. While Lost in Translation isn't quite so dependent on the interaction between Bill Murray's Bob and Scarlett Johansson's Charlotte, the movie is basically two people talking. As such, I think a lot of people would find it slow.

I found it slow, but that doesn't mean I didn't like. On the contrary, I thought the movie was really charming. I completely fell in love with Johansson. Completely. I know I posted earlier today regarding Rachel Weisz. Everything is just so confusing now. i'm not a person who like conflict or competition.

I only have one criticism of the film, and it's such a small critism that I feel like I'm throwing it in here out of obligation. The criticism: I'm TIRED of seeing Bill Murray's improv make it into movies that can otherwise stand without it. My favorite Bill Murray performance was in The Royal Tennenbaums, a performance I found to be his most structured and contained. While 90% of the Murray's performance in LIT is really good, I still got annoyed when I felt Sophia Coppola allowed him to be too Ghostbusters. I do not agree with all of the Oscar-hype he's gotten for this performance.

But that is a very small criticism. The movie is very charming. I'd give it a strong 6 on my 1 to 9 scale.

See: I give a rating. That, my friends, is pretention.

nope' date=' but i would like to point out that sofia coppolla is HOT.[/quote']

OMG! Totally agree ... at least, circa Godfather III she was just juicy.

^ wow, a six, that to me seems pretty low on your scale. it's just one more above five. five is too close to being a crappy movie.

Untrue.

Anything above a five I consider a good movie.

Five is consider a completely average movie.

ahaaa...

okee, i'll keep that in mind.

:D
