i wish i had learnt german instead of french at uni, cause what i learnt there is the same i studied at high school taking french as first foreign language.

German is meant to be similar to English in some ways but I'm not sure how much truth there is to that.

i'm learning french too. but only for two years, so i know very little ;)

you know, kindergarten is the same in english and german :D

^German is also similar to Dutch wich is very funny 'cause if I hear it I undestand a bit but I don't speak it :P

^ yeah, it's the same like Latvian and Lithuanian. but i know that people who live in the north near the border can understand latvian ;)

The thing I found hardest to get at first are all the different verb endings for you,us,we etc and masculine and feminine for objects which English doesn't have, I think Spanish has them too?.
