Nobel Peace Prize 2010 (the Say Downgrading Things About Norwegians thread)

The country's population is huge, I suppose it's hard controlling that lot.

... Chinese people are creepy.

That's the problem. People shouldn't be controlled.

I think China has a history of being controlling. Mao Zedong?

But yes, people shouldn't be controlled and freedom of speech and opinion must be there to a certain extend.

Lulz, in my opinion, my country keeps things rather controlled too. There are many things we don't dare voice out for fear of being locked behind bars.

I think freedom of speech should be there to the full extent, otherwise it isn't freedom of speech. For example I'd much rather racists be able to voice their opinions so that I am aware of who they are and can avoid them if I need to and fully understand their motives in the way they live their lives. If they voice their opinions without being attacked and the matter being discussed then there is a chance they could actually be educated. They are instead lambasted (something I am guilty of doing too since I have no problem with being awful to racists and homophobes) which further polarises them. I think this leads to an increase in the amount of people who can be targeted by racially motivated groups.

Simply silencing racists will not stop them unfortunately.

Obviously this is only one example involving freedom of speech but it is one present in my country right now. In other countries the freedom to other things is important too, such as the right to propose political changes, opposition to power and the right to protest peacefully.

China's a perv! :wreck:

I think that Chinese people tend not to buy products made in China.

Trololol totally out of topic.

probably should be on jamiroquai thread but anyways.

from jamiroquai's fb.

Jamiroquai will perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo on December 11th. The concert, which is held the day after the Nobel prize ceremony, is honouring this year's peace laureate, imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo. Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington will host the concert, which will see Jamiroquai perform Lifeline and two other tracks.

what are the news about Liu Xiaobo? he'll receive it?

  • Author

Nope, he's still in prison in China. This is actually hilarious, but just the other day China revealed that it had started it's own, fair version of the Nobel Prize and that there was going to be an extremely expensive ceremony. Since the initial winner, a Taiwanese politician turned it down, it was given to, brace yourself...
