Coldplace: Coldplay tribute singer bumps into his idol twice in two weeks

'DOWN TO EARTH': Shane Crofts, from Coldplace, with Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin in London.

GOD put a smile on Shane Croft's face when he bumped into his idol – Chris Martin.

The 34-year-old Grimsby singer who formed Coldplay tribute band Coldplace, couldn't believe his luck when he spotted Gwyneth Paltrow's hubby in London. Shane had been lucky enough to be part of the audience watching the Top Of The Pops Christmas Special live with Coldplay performing – and a day later saw the famous front man outside a recording studio.

Shane said: "I actually went to London to get the band's visas sorted for a gig in Russia and when I saw Chris we started chatting and he was surprised we were performing there, as Coldplay never have.

"I wasn't going to tell him I was in a tribute band but he was really cool with it. He told me not to be embarrassed and posed for a photo with me."

But after having met his idol for the first time, Shane thought he would never see him again – only to bump into him two weeks later after his Russia gig, in Newcastle. Shane continued: "I saw him at the bar after a Coldplay gig and we chatted. He asked me how Russia went and I told him we lost all our equipment on the flight there. We had to borrow someone else's for the gig and ours arrived the day after. We didn't have our costumes or anything.

"He apologised and I said 'it's not your fault' but it was an amazing experience. We wanted it to go perfectly and I said it wasn't our best show, Chris said he always thinks that coming off stage. He was so down to earth and I wasn't actually star-struck, he was very approachable and laughed about the fact that they have never played Russia and some of the other places we have like Malta."

Coldplace has gone from strength to strength having toured in country's such as Holland in recent years. They have also supported Bob Geldof and legendary bands Sweet and Simple Minds.

But you don't have to travel to the end of the earth to see them live – because on February 18 they are playing a gig in their hometown at Bailey's on West St Mary's Gate. Entry is free and the show starts from about 7pm with support acts also taking to the stage.

Hi Shane, witha bit of we might be able to add to this little story in a few weeks time!:D

Kris

The guy is a legend.

Me and him were waiting outside of the tyne theatre together before the show waiting to meet the band, we talked for hours in the cold and he was so gracious in taking the photo of me and Chris.

he showed me his photo's of meeting chris outside the beehive and we talked at length about it.

I've looked at Coldplace on youtube before and they are very very good so it's really cool hearing about the lead singer meeting Chris Martin! Must have been surreal!

i saw this news very very time ago in Coldplace's official site and very excited because Coldplace is going to have a concert in my country -but Coldplay never have- at 22th March and i'm gonna go it :D i hope Shane recognize me from the audience :D :P
