Gaga may have good vocal range and an overall good singing voice but so could Miss Piggy but do we actually want to hear that? May be a good singer but it doesn't mean you have a good voice.

That's been my point all along. A lot of the contestants on the likes of American Idol and X Factor actually have decent singing voices, but how many of them are actually good?

 

Having a "perfect" singing voice actually means naff all at the end of the day.

With most stars in music these days having a good voice is far more important than being a good singer. Take a song like Clocks or The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite and they are so powerful and distinctively sung because of the voice.

Yes, it's the vocal style and "character" that matter, not the range. You couldn't say the likes of the Gallagher brothers, Michael Stipe or Morrissey have brilliant voices, but who cares?
