Coldplay-Related Writing Assignment?

Featured Replies

I need some help, my fellow Coldplayers,

Next week my English class is beginning our persuasive writing unit, and we're supposed to write a persuasive paper over something that we're passionate about (we're also supposed to pick a magazine in which our paper could potentially appear). I want to write something Coldplay-related, but I can't think of what exactly I could persuade people to do.

Any ideas would be much appreciated! :)

EDIT: For example, I could attempt to convince people to buy their albums, but I'm not sure how I would go about doing that since music is subjective

You could encourage people to participate in Coldplaying? Just start off by telling how much you love Coldplay and this forum, and after that you could analyze it. So you tell them how this forum is divided into different topics and what's discussed there, how people treat each other, rules and norms, which nationalities there are.. I don't know. Try to make them enthousiastic about the idea of joining an internet forum, so describe the community.

That's probably how I would do it:P

:surprised: Ooh, I hadn't thought of that--convincing someone to become a Coldplayer! Thank you :)

. . . the only problem is that this is supposed to be able to go in a magazine article (I probably should have mentioned that in the OP) I'll see if I can work past that

That's not a problem right? You could write an article on the fanbase of Coldplay, and that they 'unite' (haha, weird way of saying it) by visting gigs together and posting experiences and thoughts on the forum. And then elaborate on the different topics, people and comments in an enthousiastic way. And then conclude by saying that Coldplay has the awesomest fans in the world!

^You can even quote Chris for that

Andrew Rope's interview, 2006

Thank you very much for your input :D Have an internet cookie *hands cookie*

You're welcome. & thanks for the cookie ;)

Oooh, you even have a source now! Let us know what your grade is. If it's less than an A, I'll hunt the teacher down.

 Can do

I also wrote an assignment about Coldplaying in October, I could send it to you if you want? Has some basic facts & a liiiiitle analysis.

Edit: Never mind, I just read it and it's fixated on terms and definitions of the book I had to use :( So I doubt it'd be helpful..

Edit: Okay, maybe this bit.:p

The website http://www.coldplaying.com is the biggest fan-built website dedicated to the band Coldplay. Members can post photo’s, write reviews on concerts they visited, discuss songs or other things that are topic related. The website has thousands of members who all have one common interest: Coldplay. Most of them are in the age category of 20-40 years, equally represented in terms of gender. The website has a forum that is divided into several subjects such as tour information, band history, music downloads, concert reviews etc. The information in this forum is posted in a very informal way, as if they all know each other. The website also created http://www.wikicoldplay.com, an encyclopedic archive about the band.

what did chris say? can i find the interview anywhere?

i like the idea! and if you need another subject, you could perhaps also think about Fair trade and the roll Coldplay had in it..?

Ooh, that's a nice one too! Make Fair Trade the main topic, and focus on the promoting role that Coldplay had!

You are soooo gonna get an A on this assignment :D

Yeah, Make Trade Fair was another topic that I considered, but I don't actually know very much about it, so I decided it would be better to go with Coldplay :P

Good luck with it.. and if you feel you could, I am sure lots of us would be interested in reading it when it's done.. ?

But if not.. I hope you do well with it! :D

Interview.. Hope the bit you want is in here.

The whole thing must be in the MM section, because I downloaded it...

It's either on July 3rd in 2006, or March 7th 2006, anyway, there's a 3 and a 7 involved

sounds like you have the start of a good idea already but I had some thoughts for a persuasive essay - what about explaining your choice for best Coldplay album? Which one do you consider their best work and why? Another thought was one that has been argued by countless Coldplayers since Mylo Xyloto came out - Is the direction of their new music a good move or a step back in their evolution? Your paper could help potential new listeners decide where to start with their Coldplay catalogue. Good luck with your paper.

Thank you, and thanks for the video :)

Oooh, I really like your idea--and I think it might be easier to write than what I had in mind previously! I'll see if I can get something down to compare it to my first idea :)
