A few questions for my friends in the UK...

Featured Replies

As an American fan of two iconic British exports, James Bond and Doctor Who, I have a question...

Which role is a bigger deal from a cultural / media standpoint when it comes to being recast? I know there is a large amount of press coverage and public debate regarding the casting of both roles but does one seem to gain more attention then the other? Does one character seem to have more importance to British pop culture?

Perhaps as an observer from afar I have overestimated the importance of these characters to your culture but from what I have seen both seem to be nothing less then national institutions... just how much weight do they carry in the UK?

As far as character casting goes I can't think of anything in the States that causes as much fervor as these two roles seem to do so it's a subject that I find very interesting.

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

my personal opinion I think casting a new Doctor Who is more of a big deal than James Bond, though I am a huge fan of them both, so both are a huge deal to me!

When it was announced that Matt Smith was the 11th doctor it was in a tv special for Doctor who, gets put in papers and on news programmes, when its a new casting for James Bond it gets put on the news or in the papers but they don't make the announcement on a tv show!

Dr Who most likely as there are more Dr Who episodes than James Bond movies so the new doctor will be in action more on the scene.
