Webster, NY shooting: Gunman hunted after firefighters are shot dead while tackling house blaze

At least two were reported to have been hurt in the incident in Webster, New York

A gunman was being hunted today after shooting firefighters as they tackled a house blaze on Christmas Eve. At least two firefighters were reported to have been hurt in the incident in West Webster, New York.

Several other people were also understood to have been shot. Police were said to be searching for the gunman and residents in Lake Road were evacuated. The gunman opened fire on the first firefighters at the scene, hitting one in the bottom.

He reportedly managed to get away from the scene and was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital. He was said to be in satisfactory condition. Two other firefighters were reported to have been hit but no further information was available.

It is the latest shooting to rock the US. Ten days ago, Adam Lanza gunned down 26 students and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. And on Friday a gunman three people and then himself in Pennsylvania.
