What happened at 'El Alamo' and why is it so important?

I can't remember the Alamo... should I? :P  :nice:

I know the Alamo as the 'building', well the ruins really, but I don't know what happened there and why is so important and so......... I'm just asking! :dozey:

I believe it was something about America conquering part of Mexico and losing the battle... why would you want to remember that?

Well because everyone talks about 'El Alamo' and I have no idea why is so important! and........ I guessed people from the U.S.A will know, and will tell me...... :/

Alamo...isn't in all-that-much ruins. only a million folks visit it each year! lmao and freakin buy millions of $ worth of souvinirs!

Alamo is where Steven F. Austin, Lamar, and a few others fought. It's turned into a legend, that's why you hear so much about it. Marketing. :sneaky:

those who lost were American settlers on Mexican land. It was kinda like their 'Last Stand', so that's why it's remembered for the men's courage and one's ultimate thing to do: give life to gain liberty.

i forget right now some important peoples' names who lost their lives here. some great country-western hero...what's his name....damn!

Have you seen the show Time squad? messed up show, but I remember seeing one about that. I can't remember that guy's name either.

ah, Thanks! I still don't know what's the big deal with 'El Alamo'........ :/

For some reason I was thinking they were Texans rebelling against the Mexicans...

yeah. texans...white settlers from the U.S., from the eastern shores of Mississippi.

Sam Houston was from Tennessee, for example.

Sternly, it's all just hype and marketing, for the most part. more important battle was at San Jacinto, where Santa Ana got defeated and Texas won its independence. :dozey:

But what I don't get is how they were Americans if they were Texans trying to gain' independence from Mexico. Weren't they technically part of Mexico still? Or was this American troops helping Texas gain it's independence from Mexico?

One small interesting fact: Michigan at one time many years ago almost went to war with Ohio.

ah, Thanks! We don't have American History, well we do but about the Continet. wheat we don't have it's the United States History, so I've learned a bit reading but not much! [ wasn't when the French had the Suth and then Mexico and they'beated' Mexico and they got California, New Mexico & Texas? and when they 'bought' Louisiana to the Frechs?]

guess that's why we still have a good football rivalry between U-Mich and Ohio State! :D

what i meant to say was: the whites were just settlers...like now, how we got so many illegal immigrants here. it's them who revolted against mexican rule. so they were americans, althought nominally they were mexican citizens.

Um' date=' I have no clue what your talking about....[/quote']

I'm talking when you anexated California, New Mexico [i think it was not caleld like that then] and Texas; they were all Mexicans! and then I'm talkign about when you bought Luoisana to the Frenchs, at a miserable prize! [or what is Alaska to the Russians? or maybe both? :/ ]

...They weren't Americans than if they were MEXICAN citizens technically... :dozey:

Well... we don't have that big of a rivalry. The biggest rivalry amungst college football here is within Michigan University (Ann Arbor) and Michigan State University (Lansing).

We bought Alaska from Russia. France offered us the Louisiana purchase and we took it.

Please no Americamn futbol!

And they were Americans, not Mexicans! [why Mexicans would want to gain independence from Mexico?]

...And Hawaii...We removed their Queen as I recall, de-throned her... And we made a deal with them to use them as a military port.

Um, if they were from TEXAS, which was a still part of MEXICO, they were obviously MEXICAN REBELS. Is that so hard to get really?
