Viva la vida, chris's Acoustic version, strumming technique

Featured Replies

Hello Everybody! :)

I'm wondering which strumming technique Chris uses in the acoustic version of viva la vida... you can watch it here : [video=youtube;Y3gtrEnIlXI]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3gtrEnIlXI

Is it palm mute? otherwise can someone tell me what it is ?

Thanks in advance,

Ozerion

try gently muting all six strings with the region of the palm closest to the wrist and sort of on the pinky the side of the hand as well. as long as you can softly mute all strings and still have enough mobility in the wrist to strum with a pick. I remember being shown this kind of thing by a friend in high school except it was for a very standard blues riff where you mute the low E and A and fret the 2nd the 4th frets on the A string in the classic blues pattern. Sounds like Chris is doing exactly what I do for that sound. If you mute everything too firmly, it deadens everything too much. the amount of pressure you want depends on how much or little sustain you want. -Charlie

Forgot to mention. Make sure to keep the palm as close to the bridge of the guitar as possible
