WELL I HAVE SOME SIMULTANEOUS EQUATIONS, AND I DID MOST OF THE EXERCISES, BUT I HAVE 2 LEFT AND THEY ARE NOT COMING OUT! :angry:

 

(i) 5x + 4y = -22

3x - y = -3

 

(ii) 3x + 2y = 2

2x - 6y = -12

 

THE SECOND ONE IN FACT IS DEAD EASY, I THINK SO, BUT I'VE BEEN WORKING ALL EVENING AND MUST CHECK SOMETHING. THE FIRST ONE IS SUPPOSE TO GIVE ENTIRE NUMBERS, BUT I'M GETTING FRACTIONS, HENCE I'VE DONE SOMETHING WRONG :/ :confused:

 

I HOPE SOMEONE LIKE MATHS, AND CAN HELP ME! :D

YOU COMPARE THE FIRST LINE WITH THE SECOND LINE, AND FIND A VALUE FOR THE VARIABLES, THAT MAKES THE EQUATIONS TRUE! :D (THEORETICALLY SOUNDS EASIER, I JUST GOT PROBLEMS WITH THE SIGN STUFF AT TIMES! :angry: AND THAT 1ST EXCERSICE :dozey: )

5x + 4y = -22

3x - y = -3

 

3x - y = -3

y = 3x + 3

 

5x + 4(3x + 3) = -22

5x + 12x + 12 = -22

17x + 12 = -22

17x = -34

x = -2

 

5x + 4y = -22

5(-2) + 4y = -22

-10 + 4y = -22

4y = -12

y = -3

 

(-2, -3)

 

I think that's what you need? Right?

 

I'll do the other one if that's right.

i haven't worked with negatives yet. :dozey: although we did learn something like that. but i forget all the steps and such.

i'm just working on fractions now. i always forget how to add and subtract them. well we didn't have a proper teacher last year for it so i never understood it. well i did once...for about a week. :dozey:

WE MAKE THEM DIFFERENTLY THO :confused:

 

I.E:

 

3x + 5y = 34

3x + 7 = 44

___________

 

0 + 2y = 10

y = 5

 

3x + 25 = 34

3x = 34-25

3x = 9

x = 9/3

x= 3

 

OR WE USE MATRIXES :confused:

5x-9y = -34

2x + 3y = - 7

 

-2 (5x - 9y = -34)

5 (2x + 3y = -7)

 

-10x + 18y = 68

10x + 15y = -35

 

33y = 33

y = 1

 

2x + 3(1) = -7

2x + 3 = - 7

2x = -10

x = -5

 

(-5, 1)

AND FOR THE SECOND ONE I GOT

 

5x + 4y = -22 } 3

3x - y= -3 } 5

 

-15x + 12y = 66

-15x + 5y = 15

y = -81/7

it is not that difficult.Just got the thing right:)

there is two equations.

5x+4y= -22

3x - y= -3

just u need to do is make x or y equal.

like u make y equal at first

5x + 4y =-22

4. 3x - y= -3

it makes

5x+4y= -22

12x-4y= -12 then add them

+---------------

17x=-34

x=-2

then put this x in any of the equations,

then u find y:))
