April 20, 200422 yr Its come to my attention that even though we spew endless crap on kurt cobain- we forget another great frontman from that beautiful time period of the early 90's. Soundgarden, soundgarden can kick nirvanas ass from here to there, but thats not what i want to talk about. Soundgarden were an amazing band, chris cornell an amazing singer, kim thyail a great guitarest, matt cameron a brilliant drummer and chris shepard... well he played bass.Even theyre rough beginnings-Louder than love,Badmotorfinger were aiming for something great. then the band split and chris cornell made a solo album- and by f**k it blew me away, it was so good it was 10/10. unfortunatly he no longer plays 'garden or his solo stuff because he is in a band (though on hiatus), a drab rock band called audioslave, i have the album and yeah it is good to hear some good ole rock out there again but bar a few songs, that album is standard from start to finish, and poor tom morello's solos sometimes sound repetitve. im not bad-mouthing audiosalve but in comparison theyre not up to the level. anyways ive talked crap long enough, i just wanted to give one of the unsung heros of "grunge" some sort of praise rather than talk about something thats already bein talked about for too long. Check him out.
April 21, 200422 yr Chris Cornell is great. I love the song he does on the soundtrack for the movie "Singles" it's called Seasons, very very good acoustic number that is.
April 21, 200422 yr Chris Cornell is a legend!!!!! :D He should totally get more praise than Kurt Cobain :dozey:  Soundgarden were very underrated :/
April 21, 200422 yr you have all your wee "hoodies" runnin around shouting smells like whatever about someone who had the ability to write great songs but wasnt a great player. you ask them who chris cornell or soundgarden are-they wont know. 90's bands who were under-rated Soundgarden Smashing Pumpkins Tool
April 21, 200422 yr exactly- brilliant bands that the mainstream dont let us know about- sorry dont let the idiotic public know about it. chris cornell is one of the best singers or our generation- down on the upside is soooo good!
April 21, 200422 yr Wait... Tool, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins. You're saying those aren't mainstream? :stunned: You've got to be kidding me.
April 21, 200422 yr yeah they are mainstream- but theyre mainstream in america- this is britain im talking abouyou gotta be kidding
April 21, 200422 yr Excluding Tool, those bands (Especially Soundgarden) are still regularly recognised by those little gimps wearing hoodies. Of course not every kid knows of Chris Cornell or Billy Corgattt, but theyre still better known then a lot of bands. This is NOT comparing them to Nirvana of course. Nirvana fucking rocked, Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins were "Alright" or something.
April 21, 200422 yr This is NOT comparing them to Nirvana of course. Nirvana fucking rocked, Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins were "Alright" or something. err lets step over here into reality, cobain wrote great lyrics, but as far as his playing went-he was not a great guitarist- and sure he has a voice that every little idiot tries to copy, anyone can yell into a mic-cornell could sing. and here, pumpkins would be better known than garden. soundgarden were better musically, but nirvana obviously appealed more to a wider audience. billys new band-billy and the corganettes
April 22, 200422 yr Billy Corgan Sings the Hits Where was I? I was being sarcastic about Cobain rocking and Soundgarden and Pumpkins being 'Alright', but I must jump to defend Kurts voice. I know he doesnt have the range or versatility of Chris Cornell, but Cobains voice was highly original and quite grand to listen to as well (Original in a good way). He had this Southern growl (strange for a Seattle boy) which was really unique, even when he screamed- he didnt just sound like a guy screaming (Even though thats essentially what it was). As a lyricist he was good, as a guitarist he was nothing special (And its unfair on him because people go around calling him horrible things like "Sloppy" and its not as if he called himself the next Jimi Hendrix) but he went with what he had. His chord patterns sounded repetitive after awhile but his melody's were usually pretty original sounding. Wow, I dont even like Nirvana.
April 22, 200422 yr he wasnt great, and he knew it, but it was essentially the public who blew him into an orbit or epic proportions. i never said he called himself the next hendrix and once again it was the public (and total guitar, nme+Q" that call him a guitar god) but im sorry for calling him sloppy, it was such a terrible thing to say, kurt, i love you man, forgive me and my non-cobainist ways maybe im just sick of seeing him EVERYWHERE!!!! cheerfully withdrawn fellow coldplay lover :D
April 23, 200422 yr yeah coldplay are the greatest, anyone who doesnt like them is some sort of freak maaaaaan
April 23, 200422 yr Once I met a person who didnt like Coldplay, now their in my basement. I call her Bill.
April 23, 200422 yr yeah id have to cut them up or something, cos not likeing them is a crime against humanity-along with genocide!!!
April 23, 200422 yr Well I will eventually cut them up but first Im forcing her to like Coldplay by piping music through the basement 24/7. OH SHIT I PUT ON A RADIOHEAD CD SHIT! I'll be right back!
April 23, 200422 yr oh no not radiohead!!! quickly before she turns into a robot!!!! get coldplay on so she can like some nice MOR mainstream publically accepted music......HARDCORE!!!!!
April 23, 200422 yr Phew! I simply switched the CD and she didnt notice. But dont worry shes now ready to rock with some J-Mack approved rocking bocking! Shmo Tax style.
