Oh yeah ? I am the one needing to respect other genres ? I listen to genres within classical music most of today's crowd hasn't even heard of and which could not be farther from Coldplay. Maybe you need to learn how to separate music made for mass consumption from true music art, though. As for Helene Fischer, her songs are as generic as can be, waltzed out for mass consumption. I have the further disadvantage of understanding the terribly trivial lyrics, which does not endear them to me. Anyway, I don't blame anybody who likes it. Most people listen to shit nowadays anyway. First off, I am not sure whether you have mistaken me with the OP - I am often in an upbeat state of mind, too. And sometimes I want to dance to music. Only most of the modern dance music, Coldplay's included, doesn't feel very profound. A common misconception is that being an Oldplayer means you only like sad songs. That's not true - I for myself can say that love Crests Of Waves and Viva La Vida for example. I hope you liked the music then ! The melody is in the second half of one of the tracks. As stated before, it is not exactly bells but sounds like bell-chiming and consists of four notes repeated over and over.

OK, I will give you a hint: Yes, the melody is hidden in one of the pieces of The Planets Suite by Gustav Holst. It is not Mars or Mercury. Other than that, I can only encourage you to listen to the individual tracks of this suite (they can all be found on YT). It is amazing and I can assure you the 30-35 mins of your life that it will take will totally be worth it since this is amazing music !

It was a sticker, apparently. Why it was in the middle of a street (where you should look left and right, and not down !!) instead of a pavement remains a mystery. I didn't spot any others in the area, but the same city has had reports of spray-painted AHFOD symbols here some weeks ago (there was even a thread for that).

My letter suggestion was not meant as in "send Chris this letter, he's gonna change it then !" It was meant as in "I'd really like it if among the hundreds of fan messages that may or may not reach them by teenage fangirls telling them how A Sky Full Of Stars was the best song ever I think it would be cool if critical perceptions like this one were among it". Other than that, I agree with the sentiment that AHFOD is, to a certain extent, a reflection of life in Chris Martins's Malibu celeb bubble. I don't deny he has deeper thoughts and feelings, but if he has AHFOD does not convey them. It conveys this shallow "Be happy every moment - see every sunise as a gift - oh I'm feeling so alive- woohooo !" Radiohead have a song called Fake Plastic Trees, and this title reminds me that was Coldplay is trying to express and make at the moment would qualify as fake plastic pop. May be difficult to relate to if you are worried about where you might be in 5 years and if you still will have the same job and if you can still support your family and all that. Some people called it hippie, I say calling it hippie is an insult to real hippies and their music. Hippies didn't live like Chris Martin lives now, they would abhor that kind of lifestyle.

Good thought !! While Chris mentally postponed the finding of a fifth member for his band, there was one other thing that kept him up at night: He was aware of the fact that his band had an awful name, but he could for the life of it not think of any better name.
