Anyone find the Coldplay reference hillarious in this movie?! I was surprised about the way it came up ... for those who dont know what i'm talking about, two of the characters are arguing back and forth and calling eachother gay ... one guy says to the other "You know how i know you're gay?? Becaus I saw you make a spinach dip and put in a carved out bread loaf once" (something along those lines ...) the other guy responds by saying "oh yeah well you know how i know you're gay? because you listen to coldplay" thought i'd share this with those of you who haven't seen it yet!
  2. I get the feeling that Keane doesn't like Coldplay very much. In a recent interview with Keane they were very defensive in saying that they'd been around since before Coldplay formed, and that the two bands met a long time ago. Then they went on to, (half-jokingly) suggest that Coldplay had taken their style ... I think they're perhaps a little resentful of the comparisons to Coldplay, but they probably do like them nonetheless ...
  3. you have the hollywood bowl performance?! do u think you could upload it on rapidshare? I have a performance of it at some other venue i think ...
  4. I don't think Low is very well suited for radio play, though its one of my favorite songs ... I think Talk would make a great third single, and Swallowed in the Sea (which noone has talked about!!) or A Message would be a good 4th. I'm not sure about A Message, only because in a Toronto interview, prior to the album's realease, after hearing A Message (live accousitc) the DJ said "I'm sure that'll be a single" and Chris quickly responded "no, no ... well maybe". its hard to say!
  5. Yeah, "The World Turned" is "Your Worlds Turned Upside Down". Same song ... oh! and, why does everyone think that poor me is the only b-side on the fix you single ?! As far as I know I'm positive that it'll be Live Poor Me and The World Turned ...
  6. 1. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face 2. Swallowed In The Sea 3. Green Eyes 4. A Message 5. Sparks 6. Warning Sign 7. The Scientist 8. Parachutes 9. See You Soon 10. Don't Panic 11. I Bloom Blaum 12. Shiver + Till Kingdom Come I can't think of any other tracks that would suit an acoustic live album, but those would all be great for me!
  7. beyonce also likes them, she wanted to do a song with chris on her next album and yes 50 cent likes them. In his new album The Massacre, he quotes Coldplay at the begining of one of the songs ... "God gave me style, God gave me grace, God put a smile upon my face" song's called "God Gave Me Style".
  8. I also got a brown tee, it was 40 bucks. The camera thing was like what they did pre-X&Y release at Coachella and other gigs, with Low. They didn't play A Message by the way. They played, Square One, Politik, Yellow, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, Speed Of Sound, Low, The Scientist, Warning Sign, Til Kingdom Come, Don't Panic, Everything's Not Lost, White Shadows, Clocks, closed with Talk, Encore had Swallowed in The Sea, In My Place, and Fix You. The covers weren't actual covers, they were more like Chris' short 20 second things in the middle or end of songs, but they were great, and fit well. he also swithched up the lyrics on a bunch of songs, and made reference to the near tragedy with the plane crash in toronto earlier today. in politik, when they usuallly sing, "give me peace of mind and trust ... etc..." he sang something like "give me ... high fives, give me a plane that crashed where everyone survived!" something like that, it was great!! just an amazing show. comparing it to the "Secret Gig at Kool Haus" that i went to is hard to do. both were such amazing shows in their own ways, but for the rest of america and Europe who have yet to see the Twisted Logic Tour, it will be amazing !!

I don't know if I'm the only one who feels this but today I was listening to "Blue Eyes" by the Cary Brothers, off the Garden State Soundtrack, and it occured to me that the strings on it are the same as Sparks. The guitar part seems to be completely bitten from Coldplay ... anyone else feel this way??
  10. Oh I know that How You See the World, Proof and Things I don't Understand have been recorded as B-Sides, but I understand that they were originally intended to be album material, and were cut over the recording process. anyways, i just find it amazing that there's so much other material out there, (potentially!!), that we haven't heard. I'd really love to hear it though.
  11. I remember hearing in the weeks/months leading up to the release of X&Y, that tracks called "Blasphemy" "Echo My Name (I can't believe you're gone)" "Fury" "Deja Vu" and "Something Ain't Right" were all meant to be on the new album. Anybody know what happened to these? If they were recorded and intended for the album at some point, then that would've meant that there's practically a full "other" album out there if you know what I mean, with tracks like Ladder to the Sun, Poor Me, How You See the World, Proof, Things I Don't Understand, Sweet Marianne. I mean thats 11 tracks right there!? anyone know anything about those tracks?
  12. It's widely referred to as Solid Ground, but I've also seen it titled as "The Water", and that title bares more resemblance to "Swallowed in the Sea," but I don't think that Solid Ground's lyrics will be found in Swallowed in the Sea ... Probably one of the other songs...
  13. I came across the Newsweek MSNBC review of X&Y here: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7935073/site/newsweek/ Many of you may have already read it, but I found that amongst all the critical comments the author had about Coldplay, there were some interesting things they had to say as well. In particular "The only thing missing from "X&Y" is a teensy bit of daring. With the exception of the operatic title track, there's nothing here to match the structural originality of "Politik" from their last CD. Bands like U2 have been able to shed their skin once they've explored a sound for all it could offer; Coldplay is early in its career, but it hasn't hinted at a similar capacity for reinvention. If the band still sounds like this in five years, it won't have the same impact. At the moment, though, Coldplay may be the only rock band on the planet, U2 excepted, capable of galvanizing a broad, multigenerational audience. Evolution can wait." This comment is interesting to me, mainly because, of the material that I've heard, it does in fact seem that Coldplay has not been able to math the structural originality of past songs like Clocks and Politik. I feel that the creativity of both those tracks off the last album may only be matched by X&Y (the title track) and/or Twisted Logic. However, I still know that it's going to be a fukin great record, and that all the songs will kick ass. But I guess I agree with the statement that there will probably not be much that is "mind-blowingly different". any thoughts?

Solid Ground would be great, but I doubt that it would be an official B-Side just because of the rumours that it has been partially transformed / inspired one of the songs on X&Y.
  15. This might be a little early, but I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about B-Sides for the second single, Fix You. I'm assuming they'll have two once again. I read on wikipedia that Ladder to the Sun, Poor Me, and Your Worlds Turned Upside Down were all intended to be on this album, and that after recording them they were scrapped. Anyone think that Fix You's B-Sides will be Ladder to the Sun and Your Worlds Turned Upside Down?!
  16. Well, as you can see from the dates that Rilo is set to play above, they won't be the opening act for the entire North American tour. I heard Rilo on the Edge 102.1 last week, and Bookie mentioned that he was disappointed that they wouldn't be doing Toronto's show, or others in the states. As far as I know, there haven't been any decisions for who will open the other dates of the tour ... anyone heard? think it'll really be Franz?

The actual version is about the same legnth for the begining part, until the guitar kicks in with Johnny. At that point there's a longer guitar solo, and Chris sings ("woohoo") a bit more before all 4 of them sing together (which by the way, i think is fukin amazing). And then its a bit longer after they stop singing, and doesn't end abrputly like the SNL performance. Chris goes back to the chorus "lights will guide you home, and I will try ...". Of course this is all based on the performance of it that I saw in Toronto, so I can't be sure that that's how it will be on the album, but I think it'll be more like the Toronto version than the SNL one...
  18. On the official site it says that there are three versions of Speed of Sound available for download of iTunes: The Album version, Radio Edit and a Live Recording. Has anyone heard these ? I have the album and radio versions from a while ago, but how is the live version? any different? any idea what show it was recorded from?
  19. Sorry, I should have specified, I didn't get them through the pre-sale, so no one panic and think that you didn't get an email! My girlfriend's dad is on the board for the Air Canada Centre, he gets advanced notification and first choice on tickets !!! its soooooooooo sweet ! good luck to everyone though!
  20. I got tickets to the Toronto show at the ACC !!!! I'm soooooo excited!! Just thought I'd share... good luck to everyone else!
  21. I'm pretty sure Till Kingdom Come is supposed to be the only hidden track on the album, and it is shown on iTunes as the thirteenth track. Things I Don't Understand is a B-side on the Speed of Sound Single. So it looks like they're just throwing in the first two B-sides in for this iTunes deal.
  22. Low isn't exactly the new Yellow, I heard it at Kool Haus yesterday. I thought that because they played Yellow right before it, it kind of overshadowed Low. But Low will be great when we hear the recorded version. It has loud guitar sounds like Yellow but to me, didn't have the same effect. I've only heard it once though, and I think it will grow on me.

Its supposed to remind us of 2001, they've talked about how they "sampled it". Its fuckin amazing though, I saw it last night at Kool Haus, and I couldn't believe how good their opening with Square One and closing with Fix You was. Fix You is also out of this world.
