Radiohead
I got the second half, starting with the end of Faust arp... but I don't think they'll show it again quite like that. Not that it'll stop me from recording the wedge every time it's on for a while if I think of it...

Radiohead
In the category of DOH!: Much Music showed the scotch mist webcast late last night, but because it wasn't announced, I missed half of it. Would like to have recorded a dvd. :\ Couldn't sleep, the computer was off because of the thunderstorms, so I decide to watch tv. The wedge was on (late night indie videos) and there is Thom singing Jigsaw! :stunned: They'd devoted the entire hour to the webcast. It seems so different on tv....

Torchwood
^Nice  Did you watch the Sarah Jane Adventures at all? They're just starting here in Canada (today, I think) but it's on a channel I don't normally get. Not*cough*thatI*cough*haven'talready*coughcough*seenit*cough* By the end it was as good as anything on either of it's sister shows imho. Anyway... just a few more days now...

What Would You Do If There Was An Entertainment Meltdown?
That part has already happened. They just don't have a clue where to go or what to do about it, and they don't have the capital anymore to try.

What Would You Do If There Was An Entertainment Meltdown?
Um hundreds or even thousands of tiny, nimble lables run by hands on owners who care about music vs. two or three out-of-touch hulking leviathans. I think it would be nice for a while as long as they worked together somehow on the distribution front. But then of course the other giant companies that wanted more assets would gobble them up, just like in the 50s or 60s, bringing us back to square one. Goodness I'm a pessimist tonight. Guess I should get some sleep.

News from the EMI / Warner Music / Parlophone / Atlantic Records shakeup...
They already have ways of contacting him directly, from what I understand. Debs has an account here, and we know it's her.

^^Yeah, I hope that they would talk to the fans directly if something is happening. It would mean a lot to us if they did for sure. Would put a lot of minds at ease. But it sounds like their manager has already been chatting with the press, and that seems to me to be the most likely route. But that's just me.

Goodness, will I recognize anyone tomorrow? :laugh3: ;) Hey Rick, I like your sig pic! :nice: What is it about?

Debs does... or at least has in the past. I don't think the guys do... she's said before that Chris doesn't even have an email address anymore. But you never know. As for press releases if it's all true and gets that far, I think they could do a lot more damage by going directly to the press.

What Would You Do If There Was An Entertainment Meltdown?
They have separate contracts with all their respective people from what I understand... and don't have the sort of resale value that is at issue in the strikes. I think tv would be more likely to end up resembling late night programming 24/7 than completly going off air. Though worst case scenario, there is always youtube and the like... Not that that's fair to people without internet who depend on news programs. Radio for them maybe? Even in a case like that I think at least public broadcasters would stay on air.

On music: Look behind you - it's the future of pop
:o Erm... sorry about that, just give me a moment to pick my jaw up off the floor and I'll be out of your way... Goodness, when you want to namedrop, you really know how. *quietly shuffles off*

What Would You Do If There Was An Entertainment Meltdown?
I don't think that even a worldwide music strike would affect most genuinely independent lables. They usually know better and adapt faster. So there will always be new music, it just may not be familiar.

^ I don't know... don't the label own some rights to the website? They probably couldn't use it as an official channel the way some other bands do about something that sticky. But I'm not sure, so don't quote me on that...

What Would You Do If There Was An Entertainment Meltdown?
The scenario has been batted around before. Writer's strike. No end in sight. Most TV shows have run out of new episodes, award shows are being scaled down or canceled, and if it goes on for too long there won't be any more new movies in theatres. The Screen Actors Guild can go on strike too before too long, and unless someone comes up with something soon, they probably will for the same reasons, along with the directors guild. Now the strike is putting ideas in musicians heads. Granted, EMI is a sort of a special circumstance, but apparently big label deals in this day and age can be pretty toxic for the artists between 360 deals and older contracts that make no provisions for digital sales. David Byrne in some of his interviews for Wired talked about the possibility of artists waking up and striking together en masse. 1 2 What if it did happen? Any medium affected by the internet age is at risk. What if there were no new movies, tv, music... maybe even games? For months? Years? Would everyone finally discover indie releases? Would they just watch youtube all the time instead? Would ordinary people discover that they were capable of a depth of creativity they never realised while being hypnotised by their entertainment? Would we become more obsessed with gossip than we are now? Or would we rise above it all? Could it be the straw that broke the economy? Would DVD box sets double in value? Would we all make a dash for second life? Maybe there would be a boom in live theatre? Scary and exciting times ahead, I think...

I'm not sure the new management understands things well enough to be able to do that. Hmm... that gives me an idea...

Torchwood
New season starts soon. Looks like it will be more fun than the last one. Just saw a preview on youtube and now I'm all excited. Once again all the Lost and Heroes fans who live on the wrong continent to see it when it first airs can laugh at me. Hope the CBC doesn't wait to pick it up this time. Though at least watching on a computer makes it easier to fast forward some of the nastier bits... Why does 'adult' automatically mean 'gory and immature' anyway? Kind of ironic. Anyway, big preview (massive spoilers): Any other fans out there?

^Solo artist. emi's biggest act after Coldplay. Used to be part of a boyband called Take That until he went solo. Very popular in Britain, but unheard of anywhere else. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbie_Williams Looks like he's the main one willing to risk a lawsuit to get the whole walkout off the ground. And he's big enough for a move like that to really hurt the company.

Strange being called deep when the point is that I don't get it. Which is hard to admit when it's one of your favorite albums period.

News from the EMI / Warner Music / Parlophone / Atlantic Records shakeup...
At the same time though, if they do just go ahead and release it though EMI, they will own the copyright and could do all sorts of evil things with it. And are inclined to under the new regime. It sounds like this started because the last voices of reason who would keep it from happening were being let go.
