  1. true, those are also space-y songs. In hindsight I may have forgotten a few more as well. But neither X&Y nor Mylo are explicit space albums. That's the message I was trying to get across.
  2. This! Coldplay have always had this fascination with space that hasn't directly translated to an album - X&Y was spacey rock but didn't have any other references to space aside from Twisted Logic, Square One, and X&Y. Mylo had a similar feel, but never directly referenced space aside from Moving to Mars. What's odd is that, given that Eno is one of the greatest ambient artists ever and has done spacey songs like Ending (An Ascent), it seemed only a matter of time before Coldplay took the same route - which we saw on Moving to Mars and Aliens. My dream is still for a bunch of these songs - gigantic space rock epics, glistening synths, chiming and echoing guitars, loud percussion, dreamy piano, and moments of mournful and beautiful ambience that reflects space. If the songs were experimental or sounded like this in any way - take All I Can Think About is You as an example - then I think this would be one of their greatest. We have Jon Hopkins potentially coming back, the Dream Team from Everyday Life, maybe Eno and Markus Dravs on the pre-Mylo and pre-Ghost Stories songs, and Jacob Collier (who does beautiful songs as well). It might be a dream that comes to fruition very soon, but we'll just have to wait and see. There was so much creativity found in Viva and Mylo that seems to have been directed towards a space rock album, so hopefully now is the right time. I also feel really good because this hype and promotion campaign is the greatest they've ever done - so many hints, easter eggs, clues, unreleased songs, samples, even references to the earlier space album I was talking about. The ambitious teasers they've put out signify a much more ambitious (even if it might be pop) album than A Head Full of Dreams or Ghost Stories. Keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
  3. With the discovery of Alien Radio, I can't help but think of two other songs - strangely, it's these two songs that belong to that group of pre-Mylo songs that were allegedly part of the space rock album before Mylo, two songs that share similar lyrical themes of escape and refugees. Aliens has the lyric "Diamonds ate the radio" Moving to Mars has the lyric "and I heard it on the radio" This raises the question - why would you include a radio reference that seems to jump out of nowhere? I don't know what the MTM lyric means but the Aliens lyric seems so random that it has to be a reference to something. Since there was an old song called Alien Radio that was unreleased but repurposed for today it seems to connect the three together.
  4. This is why I hate being Asian, because of course the news comes out about LP9 while I'm asleep and now I have to scroll back for 5 pages! (Joking of course)
  5. Don't know if anyone noticed (@gotmyrecordson on Twitter did though) but after a few months of pinning their "Singles" playlist to the front of their Spotify page it's suddenly not there anymore. Is it there for anyone else? They might begin promotion for LP9 soon if that's the case.
  6. that's my thinking as well, especially since MOTS dates back to the Viva days.
  7. not for me, thank you very much. You can like Dua Lipa all you like, I'm not stopping you, but there's such a stylistic divide between Dua Lipa and BTS from Coldplay that these collabs just come off as... yech.
  8. watch this thread explode when they finally announce something lmao
  9. Anybody know the song being played at the very beginning of the clip? Sounds kind of like a bit of Poppyfields but as far as I know it sounds different from anything they've ever made. I think it sounds pretty nice!
  10. Bruh just because it's your opinion doesn't mean that it's going to come true. Hence the word opinion. I don't get why you want me to stop because my opinion won't stop any collaborations. Obviously I'm not that powerful. Take note, you're also saying the word "will" - anything you say isn't certain to happen on the album, so it would be more helpful and less confusing to say "I think it will happen" not "will happen". Not trying to start an argument, just trying to prove my point.
  11. A collaboration I would love though is Brian Eno. Literally brought out the best in them during Viva and (somewhat) during MX and his fingerprints are all over some of their best songs outside the era (White Shadows, Aliens, Arabesque). Given his experience with ambience especially with works like An Ending (Ascent) I think he'd do wonders with MOTS. It's also worth noting that many of the clues and little snippets revolving around space and even the phrase "Music of the Spheres" from Matt McGinn's book point to an era sometime around 2009-2011, where they scrapped many album ideas and eventually went with Mylo Xyloto. So this album (if it follows the clues) might have Eno influences on it, I hope.
  12. doesn't matter if I'm new to this site because I've been a Coldplay fan since 2009. You're right, we'll just wait and see what happens, but to say he WILL return and that they ARE collaborating is nothing short of fantasy until we get substantial evidence.
  13. look just cause it's your opinion doesn't mean it should and will happen, okay? Tons of fans want Coldplay to return to their roots, work with Ken Nelson, or bring back Brian Eno but that doesn't necessarily mean it WILL happen just because its our opinion that it will.
  14. I'm sorry but I just don't see it happening? Just because Future Nostalgia had a "space theme" and MOTS has a space "theme" doesn't mean that she's going to collaborate outright. If you ask me I'd put my money on the album having a Brian Eno influence based on all the evidence and clues I've seen.
  15. just my opinion but I don't think Dua Lipa or any other big collaborators will join them for MOTS - and I think it's for the better. Sometimes the collaborators can hinder a song's greatness or change the song entirely. What I'd love though is the type of collaborations on Viva or Everyday Life, where an expert in the field or a much less famous person contributes something meaningful to the band. Everyday Life had Jacob Collier contributing his signature layered vocals and production on Church, Cry Cry Cry, and Everyday Life, Norah Shaqur's beautiful and haunting voice on Church and Bani Adam, Tiwa Savage's backing vocals on Eko, Femi Kuti's band and Stromae on Arabesque, the London VoicesChoir on When I Need a Friend, the Love Choir on BrokEn and in their live performances as well. The best collaborations are not when someone takes a large portion or feature in a song, but when their talents are used in little but really impactful ways. Plus I do think that a new era will debut this May, but, I agree, not necessarily a new song. Although the Glastonbury empty and haunting nighttime grounds as well as the Pyramid Stage would be a really cool setting to debut a couple of space songs. I'd expect their typical Glastonbury hits to be played, but given how much the band loves live audiences and the lack of a live audience during the concert, we might have the opportunity to see more unknown and less played songs.
  16. even if the other band members don't join, Chris'll still steal the show by himself. Coldplay live would sweep the board against all the other acts, though.
  17. yup, he also posted a story of "Blackbird" a while back! Dude just likes listening to good music, I guess.
  18. Angel Lopez was an assistant producer for EL, right? Might just be listening to good music but both this and Violet Hill from the same album? It might be him listening to older Brian Eno/Coldplay songs, maybe a sign of the new album? He also posted Blackbird on his stories too, so I don't know.
  19. Somewhere in this video (forgot what timestamp it was and too lazy to check) but Chris jokes about an orchestra that they got to play for the songs. It's possible that maybe the orchestra he talked about, that accompanied them all throughout the Everyday Life "tour" could also be the Orchestra of Silencia for the supposed Mylo Sequel? A huge orchestral album would be so good, a return to Viva, but instead of European medieval themes it's a majestic space odyssey.
  20. Amen. Wasn't here for the EL hype but I vividly remember the hype on the discord and subreddit, including Kirboh's "leaked" tracklist featuring Conscious Pilot and a supposed Daft Punk collab. The forum isn't as active right now, but when they formally announce MOTS it's gonna blow up!
  21. yup, they (and their fans) seem to have a fascination with 42.
  22. not only that, look at how many seconds are left on the right-hand side...
  23. I don't know, but I feel really optimistic for the upcoming album. Maybe it's just the album hype, but the possibilities of Brian Eno having a say in this really have me hoping for the best. It might just be a generic pop album like AHFOD, but I don't think the term Music of the Spheres came out of nowhere. It seems like a concept that the band could build on and an interesting one that they could explore in the album. If they'd wanted to create a generic pop album but space-themed they could have given it another name, but that weird name from 2010 - Music of the Spheres - still stuck around. I just feel that this album will be more ambitious and explore more complicated concepts than AHFOD and GS did.
