  1. Just thinking out loud here: we thought Coldplay already had a good chance of playing Glasto 2020 in June for its 50th anniversary. With this Global Citizen news, the odds of releasing even earlier than summer 2020 has increased slightly imo. I don't want to get too hyped up too early; I can live with September 2020 for now, but I'd say it went from a 10% chance to a 20% chance with this alone. Still not great, but improved odds!
  2. Keep it up my dude. No worries, but please try to have the forum fixed in time for LP8 :D
  3. ^I'd wager they open and/or close with a new song.
  4. Ahem, obligatory page 42
  5. The heck, does this guy know something? He knew this 8 days ago.
  6. "Coldplay will perform", pretty clear to me. Usually when its only Chris they say 'Chris of the band Coldplay'. Plus, this isn't some random gossip site, this is Global Citizen's official twitter page. I will concede that theres a chance they might not play new material, but at this point, or by the time Sept 2020 rolls around, i'll take Chris performing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the Kazoo.
  7. We were more freaking out because some of us didn't like the song and some did. Anyways, concrete news is good. Id say we'd likely have music before September 2020 as opposed to after, but September is the hard date which I can live with for now.
  8. So, we think they'll release something before then right!? Or would they really play new songs to us (kinda like MX)?
  9. Its hard to answer that question without any clue as to what LP8 will sound like. But I think Coldplay are a big enough band where they almost get a free pass that way. Also, Chris for better or for worse seems to have a good grasp of the different genres of music available including the popular ones in this day in age, At the same time, I would not say their goal is to want to make good pop songs. They just make what they think sounds good (based on their influences and more modern influences), its up to others to judge what genre that is, and its hopefully the rest of us like it. One thing im not too concerned about with them is their instrumentation and songwriting. I think after 7 albums, we can bank on that. Its more the production and lyrics that need to continue to grow that would truly surprise fans new and old.
  10. Working, thanks! Cool read too. Another example of how they donate more money than you think. And great example of how they dont donate for the publicity!
  11. Sorry to give that poster more views, but the one concrete thing they said was "I’ll add that when [new music] comes, no one will expect the album to be finished". To me, that sounds like it will come before summer 2020. I think thats the general consensus from the fandom, that LP8 is coming then.
  12. ah, thank you! Thats a little hard for me to imagine in terms of theme anyways. X&Y was a bit of a sciency, black and white sort of album whereas AHFOD was very colourful. At least thats how I imagined them. Coupled with how Davide posted Viva la Vida, seems like something doesnt make sense.
  13. ^hmm, page not found
  14. Ah, sorry, I'm such a sucker for leaks and rumours! edit, oh, hes that fella who the North Korean twitter account follows. What a strange story im reading trying to get some info here :s
  15. Wait, did anyone catch this deleted comment? Does this guy know something?
  16. Yeah, wouldnt trust it either. But seeing that tease is enough assurance for me that we're on the right track. Stalking the user on reddit a bit, seems like he might be from Buffalo if that helps somehow. If we have other users here perhaps, or something.
  17. r/coldplay going off about this. Is this a tease? https://old.reddit.com/r/Coldplay/comments/d6tne6/davide_rossi_posted_this_today_remembering_the/
  18. Reminds me of this
  19. Yooooooo, he still got it
  20. ah, yes, thats it I hope/don't think its for Los Unidades. We havent heard anything from them since late last year, and this Paris studio stuff was from this summer, so I think they're working on actual Coldplay stuff!
  21. I recall it was Guy's Insta Story thing? Sorry I dont have Insta. And I think it was SoCal? Memory is fuzzy now, arg. That, or was it some fans who made a pilgrimage to The Bakery and saw something/someone? Either way, I'm fairly certain they're in the actual music-making phase of the offseason, and not so much the break part.
  22. Hmm, havent really heard that before. I wonder if this is one of those tabloid things we should take with a grain of salt? Either way, I think what Zero Theory meant was that Chris is always writing in some capacity, even if the Dakota story was true. Maybe Chris doesn't have time to go ditch Dakota from Vancouver to fly to a London studio, but he seems the type (and has said so as well) to get songs sent to him from the universe. Like, if a new chord strikes him, or a new progression, or a riff comes to mind, he'd make a note on his phone and save it for when he is with the band, like we know he likely was over the summer (via Guy's instagram).
  23. That mightve been Los Unidades. They do tend to take breaks, but yeah, probably nothing this long before.
  24. Chris sighting, he was in my country! The other coast of it, but still! https://twitter.com/coldplaying/status/1173109664508043265 https://twitter.com/coldplaying/status/1173225761689538561
  25. Something else I noticed while compiling this. Actually, I noticed this last time I made the chart, but when I took the info from the various wikipedia articles, it also lists the period the album was recorded. I never paid too much attention to this because I wasn't sure of its accuracy, and I would imagine all the behind-the-scenes, background recording process dates and details would come out after the fact, not before. But I took a closer look this time around. The recording durations are all over the place. It ranges from 6 months with Parachutes to nearly 3 times as long with Viva. As I alluded to before as well, we don't know precisely when they started recording. It seems the band has a tendency to sometimes work immediately after the last tour date of the previous era (refer to the previous chart) or sometimes they would work on the next album while the current era is still happening! I cant grab any useful info at the moment with this, but again, good to have the info all in one place.
