Yeah, been a while since ive seen your user name. Its funny, I was going to post something, but it was more relevant to the LP8 thread, so I posted there. But it adds on to what you're saying/feeling about wondering when the band is coming back.

Hi, I was a bit bored this saturday night, so I thought I would update my old album release chart: I grabbed all the dates from wikipedia, and if a date was, say, August 30 2002, I just put August 2002 as opposed to September 2002. I think my original chart years ago used album release as the official start of the era. However, I realized that they usually release singles before. It really didn't change the data too much, or my 'conclusion' at the end anyways. For example, of note, if you take a look at LP6, I recall having the Midnight MV released first before the Magic single. However, this only changed the beginning of the era by a month. I recall reading around here or in the random thread someone was trying to correlate the EP releases. A few users, myself included, didn't really count things like the ETIAW EP as a true EP. The only EPs really were Prospekt's March and Kaleidoscope EP. And even then, the EP releases fit within the tour beginning and end, so I didn't even bother giving it its own column. My conclusion isn't very exciting and maybe not even surprising to some: its that we have no idea when LP8 is coming, LOL. I tried three things 1) average offseason duration 2) average offseason duration without the 8 month outlier 3) maximum offseason duration (19 months) and added them to the LP7 end date of November 2017. To save you the work, at best, using these numbers would suggest we should have had something this past Spring already. I actually think that was my original guess back in 2017/2018. The band has never been off for this long. Hmm, but while I was typing this, I remembered about Los Unidades. They were technically a thing starting November 2018. If we add the numbers to that we would get summertime 2020. I don't know, admittedly, its a bit of a stretch depending on you think Los Unidades was, but just something to think about.

For better or for worse, things are just quicker now (I guess you'd say its too quick) and going post to post, thread by thread on a forum is just not that!

Thanks. I mean, its very possible it could different with others, but when I was younger, I was part of a handful of messageboards. Thats where I virtually hung out as a teen. Not to date myself, but I dont think the younger generation really knows of forums and torrents and stuff like that anymore. Things are just different, but it doesnt mean its bad

Ha, its hard to compare across those times/eras. First, we're in an 'offseason' period where there is just no news. Its unfair to compare the lowlights of today with the highlights of yesterday. Also, messageboards and forums didn't have to compete with twitter and instagram back then.

Perhaps something like this? I know this is Beau Biden's funeral, but same idea, very different circumstances obviously. As an aside, I randomly thought about that performance the other day. My favourite part was not the performance, but afterwards when Chris went to shake hands with the immediate family. So often we see adults do this and its no big deal, but what stood out was Chris taking time to shake the hands of the kids as well. What a great human being he is : )

Moving quickly away to some other news: Today is the anniversary of the release of A Rush of Blood to the Head, what I believe is the greatest album from Coldplay yet. Whats everyone's favourite track from that album? So many great choices, but mine is the opener, Politik.

To clarify, I dont exactly believe either of the two main school of thought so far. If he meant to say the band is over, he wouldnt do it in a tweet But if he meant to say they're taking a break to work on the album, well, wasnt that assumed already. 'Last tweet in a while'? I mean, they're already not tweeting a lot to begin with, so why even say that? ARGGG

I was trying to reread this in a different light. I know he's an avid reader and especially lately hes been more spiritual. Perhaps he felt something particularly touching that made him feel extra grateful for everything he's had so far and it came out via this tweet? Who really knows what this means or if there's some sort of hidden meaning. I half regret posting that, but I guess coldplayers will see it sooner or later. Even though it still kinda sounds more ominous and sad than anything, I dont think the band is in danger of calling it quits if thats what some are saying. So what does he mean? I'm not so worried about that last part, 'thankyou for reading the last few years, we are really grateful for you all'. Im slightly more anxious about 'last tweet for a while'. That could mean VERY good news or VERY bad news. Could mean they're really buckling down on production or they're going to go away for a very long time. Thats whats making me uneasy!

Politik is my all time favourite song of theirs, but as weird as it sounds, i kinda dont want to 'tarnish' its reputation by making it a single. I know that doesnt make sense; perhaps im trying to keep its special-hidden-gem quality by doing that. As for the other songs, I cant really imagine the other songs being played on the radio. I like Green Eyes, I like Warning Sign but I have the easiest time imagining A Rush of Blood to the Head out of the rest of the album.

Agreed. And i was sooo hyped when he brought back Gem and brought back Chris along with Mike and Russell. I really thought that was close to the strongest lineup he couldve had if he were to pick from his former bandmates. Best guitarist, best bassist, best keyboardist, best drummer. I likely set myself up for disappointment because the band on paper is not matching the output in my headphones.

I tend to agree. Similarly with the ASFOS EP. Perhaps it feels that way because we heard the songs of the EP before the EP came out. Compared to with PMEP and KEP, there were at least some songs on there that were brand new. Cool correlation, but I dont there's causation.
