Kurt Cobain voted as biggest rock 'n' roll hero
Kurt Cobain has been voted as the greatest rock 'n' roll hero of all time by readers of NME. In this week's special edition of NME - out nationwide today (May 10) - the late Nirvana guitarist has been shown to still be inspiring music lovers across the world, over ten years after his tragic suicide. "The first time I met Kurt he was watching 'The Wizard Of Oz' on TV at a B&B in Shepherd's Bush just before 'Sliver' was released - he looked like a grunge Christopher Robin," former NME writer Steve Lamacq remembers. "There was something very innocent about Kurt, he had an almost childlike detachment. The way he used to withdraw inside himself made him a terrific observer of people." Also featuring in NME's Heroes Poll are stars including Liam Gallagher, Morrissey, Pete Doherty, David Bowie, Ian Brown, Joe Strummer, John Lennon, Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner. For the full top fifty heroes of all time, be sure to pick up this week's issue of NME, which also includes the full report on the return of Radiohead, behind the scenes reports from the NME New Music Tour, an exclusive track-by-track of Dirty Pretty Things debut LP 'Waterloo To Anywhere' written by the band themselves and our verdict on The Raconteurs' 'Broken Boy Soldiers'. nme.com

- Doubts over Van Nistelrooy future
it's Ruud's fault... RUUD VAN NISTELROOY will be sold by Manchester United after a SECOND punch-up with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Dutch striker was axed for Sunday’s clash with Charlton over the incident and chief executive David Gill last night gave manager Alex Ferguson the OK to flog him. Van Nistelrooy is understood to have taunted Ronaldo, referring to his Portuguese countryman and assistant boss Carlos Queiroz as his dad. Ronaldo was furious, reminding Van Nistelrooy his real father, Dinis Aveiro, had died only last September. But the Dutchman continued and the pair came to blows before being dragged apart by team-mates. Some United stars feel Ronaldo gets special treatment from Queiroz. But this time the other players and Ferguson sided with the youngster. Ferguson’s relationship with Van Nistelrooy has been worsening all season. They have hardly spoken since the striker’s axeing from the Carling Cup final. Van Nistelrooy’s agent Rodger Linse said last night: “Ruud didn’t leave Manchester, he was sent away. We have decided we will remain silent in this matter. We won’t be lowering ourselves to the level Ferguson has been doing via the media.” http://www.thesun.co.uk- Radiohead

great story, i liked it :) thanks for sharing- 2006 NBA Playoffs... lets GO!
just found this lol : British Rock Analogous to the NBA??? A commenter from Freedarko.com named Griffin left this on the comments section of the site today. Can't say I completely agree, yet I do find it quite clever... Michael (Jordan) is The Beatles Record executives will always be searching for the Next Beatles, and they will promote some bands as the New Beatles, but time will always correct these greedy errors. Neither will ever be knocked off the mountain top because no one will ever be better. LeBron is Oasis Being measured against the best can provide short term glory, as we - the public - try to recapture the past (can you sing the words to "Wonderwall?"). But the public who deemed you the Second Coming will eventually damn you to hell for being a two-bit impressionist. LeBron is writing "Champaign Supernova" as I write this. Kobe is Radiohead Kobe is openly shitting on Jordan's model. He's distorting the vocals, playing them backwards, giving them slow when they want fast, giving them down when they want up. He's saying, "I don't care if I fail. I'm not Michael Jordan and I don't want to be." And by rebelling from Jordan he will become more like Jordan, just like Radiohead is to The Beatles.- The quote thread
