Need some Coldplay help my fellow Coldplayers!!
Basically I am interested in finally getting some X+Y material on my website . :idea2: Its a tad out of date but I want to get it a little more current. Two things I'm definitely looking to add: 1) I need some screen captures of images from the videos of X+Y. I have all earlier singles put on wallpapers (http://thescientist1.tripod.com/videos.htm) but haven't come across captures images except for a few in signatures here. 2) I'm looking for quotes directly from band members from shows that show the inspiration for all the songs from x+y. Here is the AROBTTH page of mine as an example of what I'm aiming for: http://thescientist1.tripod.com/AROBTTH.htm. What i have so far: SQUARE ONE: 'We tried to make a song like Kraftwerk (This composition is the first official song which is done by Guy and Will and not by me - programming on an old Drum-Computer.)' Opening is reminiscent of 2. 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' the theme from 2001: A Space Odyessey. WHAT IF: Should sound like John Lennon. WHITE SHADOWS was inspired by Tears for Fears' "Mad World." The title "White Shadows" was lifted from a Seventies TV series produced by Martin's late father-in-law, Bruce Paltrow. Even though Martin never met the man, X&Y is dedicated to him -- the CD sleeve reads, "For BWP." "It's meant to be subtle," says Martin. "It just has a way of making sense of death." Guy: “Sometimes songs we put on the shelf, come back, like White Shadows ended up on the record and that was one that we’d …so we do work hard on every song before we decide it’s not working. They go through a sorting process.” FIX YOU: We borrowed from Jimmy Cliff the line "There's so many rivers to cross". Chris mentioned that they wanted to pull a "Bee Gees" and do a 4 part harmony for the finale. TALK Coldplay take the riff from Kraftwerk's 'Computer Love', Guy Berryman said: "Talk was a song written around a riff so it was quite unique in that respect. It even had a verse that sounded quite like The Smiths and Bowie." Coldplay admit there are 3 versions of this song ; Jonny: “They started there and got re-written and then they got rewritten back.” Will: “There’s 3 different verses. The chorus has pretty much always been the same and the music and the melody.” X & Y: We had this track very early but we thought it's boring. One night at home I listened to old Beatles records and saw a making-of of "Dark Side Of The Moon" and then I come up with the idea to play the song in a 60's style. The title track 'X + Y' is much inspired by Abbey Road era Beatles as Jonny Buckland explains: "X + Y is the most psychedelic and most Beatles we've ever been. It's just one of those songs that took a long time to record though." – Guy SPEED OF SOUND: “We tried to write a Kate Bush song. I've heard "Running Up That Hill" and liked to have a song with the same atmosphere. Even the chords are similar.” Guy Berryman continues, the track is a great bridge between the last album and the new. “Speed of Sound' is a great first single. It kind of shows that we're about melodic songs yet also shows the progression in sound. We were listening to Kate Bush and I was trying to so some Nick McCabe guitar, so that was the influence really behind the track." A MESSAGE: Even we had to deliver the album on January. There was one song left, somehow remaining just one idea - the melody of an old church song which we sung a lot when we were children "My Song Is Love Unknown". Chris claims he wrote while walking about his house in the buff at 2am. He said: "A Message is incredibly important to me. We were working hard to finish the album and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I went downstairs at 2am, totally nude, and I sat down with the same guitar I used for 'Square One' and this song just arrived in like four minutes! To me it's such a special song which I'm very proud of - it was also the last song recorded for the album." LOW ? THE HARDEST PART: 'We wanted to write a R.E.M. song' SWALLOWED IN THE SEA Influenced by the Pogues. TWISTED LOGIC Very reminiscent of 'She's So Heavy' from Beatles Abbey Road. TIL KINGDOM COME Written for the late great Johnny Cash who passed away before he could record the song

Anyone ruined for life bc they were spoiled before?
I've seen them all 5 times they've been in Denver. I saw them debut AROBTTH in the club tour with only about 400 inside and being about 4 yards away from Chris. I met the band during a soundcheck with about 10 others and then was in 2nd row during the show. Did both Red Rock shows including the 2nd night in pooring rain in 1st row. I've had amazing luck so far and I love every memorable moment. I've got 14th row floor tickets this tour so I wont have bad seats at all this time around. It will only get harder to get close to the band (meeting and ticket-wise) and more expensive but I'm not terribly worried. :D

Yes it's come to this...Which is the Worst Album?
X+Y worst of the 3 but I still think its rather good. It did take longer to grow on me then any of the other albums.

I can't play Mpeg's!!!
VLBC player is amazing. It'll play virtually ANYTHING. Seriously.

Official Coldplay forum
Its horrible there. Nothing but 14 year old girls with minimal knowledge of music reposting the same self-centered threads over and over again such as about the lack of tickets in the local area. horrible :snore:

Check out my site. There are links to pics for each show. Jan 28, 2003 Houston concert
Yeah it was recorded. Its one of the few shows that had ALL the songs (including the new ones). A great audience recording exists as well. :D

Jet
they are quite good! only negative is that i can tell the influence of almost every guitar riff off their album. that said its a small price to pay for good kick ass rock n' roll music. :)

coldplay vs radiohead
ps both are great bands and they both are two of my favs. that said i will always be a bigger Coldplay fan because it is a better fit. Plus its just nice seeing a band develop like Coldplay has and that will continue to. Plus I think if a lot of people could choose they would have hoped for a different direction from Radiohead if they could choose.

coldplay vs radiohead
the differences between radiohead...............................coldplay ================........================= pessimistic..............................optimistic dark.......................................bright ok being underground.............we want to be heard old & mature..........................young & fun mainly guy fans......................mainly girl fans fans are closed-minded...........fans are open-minded complicated layered sound......stripped down, 4 instruments a little piano, lotta electronics..a lotta piano, only synth backgrounds pop is dead............................pop is what it is (there's some good stuff out there) obscure influences..................classic influences will not do covers...................will do many covers we are serious artists...............we are in a rock band (cool!) hate the media.......................media is our friend i am not a celebrity.................celebrities are just people "the new pink floyd"..............."the new U2" why are we comparing these bands again? oh yeah............ radiohead & coldplay ====================== from britian heart-felt, sincere music big in america (hard to fucking do) became popular after one big single, semi-regretted it put out better, louder 2nd album that was more cohesive not afraid to be subtle and quiet not afraid to rock out great live band focuses around singer who plays variety of instruments went to college together sell well around the world better than 90% of the shit thats on the radio
