LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
Wow,many years since my last post here, but I'm back! For me,a true 'double album' is literally one that comes on 2 physical discs.Presumably the vinyl EL will be that, but 53 mins of music comfortably fits onto a single CD.The band's concept is obviously 2 different short song cycles fitting an overarching idea. The band have released 'songs' previously with actual titles that are little more than sketches or interludes.I'm assuming EL will be a mix of these and proper length songs.

Erm, Ireland?
Indeed. My other reason for preferring a venue to be in a city, with allocated seats is a simple one. My wife has limited mobility and so it's always preferable for us to have seats and not having to walk miles to get anywhere!

Erm, Ireland?
Since it's nearly March now, I'm guessing it'll be Slane or nothing. It seems amazing that Coldplay would skip Ireland, but sadly I can see it happening. (Would prefer Aviva myself as I don't like standing at gigs generally, especially in open countryside!)

Dublin, Ireland gig in 2012?
I REALLY hope it isn't Slane! The location is amazing, but tickets will cost more than for a normal show, demand will be higher because of the venue's perceived mystique and glamour (attracting more casual fans), and for health reasons, not everyone wants to / is able to stand on a hillside all day!

Dublin, Ireland gig in 2012?
A rumour I heard from elsewhere (online, so treat with caution!) is that there should be an Irish outdoor stadium show this summer, but that the likely promoter - MCD - are holding back the official announcement for the time being. Want to know why?! It's apparently because MCD want to try and sell more tickets for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers show in Croke Park and reckon that more casual fans would probably plump for Coldplay if that option was also available! That sort of twisted logic could actually be true, especially as the RHCP show hasn't sold out yet.

2012 tour date rumours (please post dates for ALL countries in here)
Note to Coldplay - we have stadiums in IRELAND too! Any chance lads?

2012 tour date rumours (please post dates for ALL countries in here)
There better be an Irish show somewhere, but would prefer if it wasn't Slane. My choice would be one of the stadiums (stadia?) in Dublin, like Croke Park, Aviva or RDS. On a slightly related note, why do these concerts always go on sale in the run up to Christmas? Who has money at this time of year? Much as I love to go to concerts, presents for my kids, paying bills etc have to take precedence!

Impossible to listen to HLH without MX
Coldplay's notion of a 'concept album' is apparently as simple as starting the next song at the very end of the previous one. It's fine if you're listening to the album all the way through, but not if you want to listen to individual tracks. To me, the short instrumental passages are pretty meaningless as separate tracks and would've been better integrated as long intros instead - MX / HLH is the perfect example of this. I agree with the original poster in that it's impossible to listen to these two apart so they should've just been one track all along. That's pretty much my only complaint about the album so far though! It's a fine collection of songs, even though I'd heard over half of them already!

3 Questions about Keane, MUSE, and Jon Hopkins! Please Anwser
Jon Hopkins supported Coldplay on tour and, I have to say, I wasn't inspired to go out and buy any of his music! (Sorry Jon. Console yourself with all the royalties you'll get as a 'co-writer' on the Coldplay album!) As has already been pointed out, Light Through The Veins is sampled by Coldplay on LIT and DALHF from the new album. But, having heard the actual track itself, it's pleasant but very repetitive - there's nothing different other than what's used by Coldplay. Haven't heard the Muse album. I find them quite hard to listen to, heavy going but musically very complex and challenging. Perfect Symmetry is, for me, slightly weird, but Keane should be commended for changing their sound. Some of the production is very 80s, but I'd certainly recommend it. Just don't expect a smooth continuation of the sound of their first two albums.

23-Dec-08 - Belfast, Odyssey Arena - Meetups, Review/Photos (originally 18 Dec)
Sorry to hear that people got hassle from over-zealous security. Unfortunately the Odyssey staff have a reputation for being rather killjoyish (is that a word?), but I personally had no problems with recording. Maybe it was because I was in row 52 rather than up at the front, but everyone in my area was filming away without any problems whatsoever. Indeed, I was very pleased to get the following songs in pretty much complete form: In My Place Fix You Clocks Viva La Vida Lost Death Will Never Conquer-Green Eyes-Jingle Bells Lovers In Japan The Scientist Life In Technicolor II If I had any way of posting these, I would, but the files are very large (smallest 78mb, largest is 600mb, 2.35gb in total) - glad I invested in a new memory card before the show! Anyway, I really enjoyed my first Coldplay concert. It was a great experience, the band were really loose and up for it, and I was very impressed. As an added bonus, I was especially thrilled to hear LIT II. Hopefully there'll still be tickets available for Phoenix Park whenever my credit card clears in a few days!

Chris Martin admits he competes with wife's ex Brad Pitt
Although Chris's insecurities are understandable, I hope he remembers one simple fact. Yes, Gwyneth used to be with Brad Pitt, but she's not now. She's married to him, and is presumably all the better for it. Also, Brad should realise that Angelina's likely to bin him at any time, given her past history!

Strawberry Swing Swinging Thoughts
If Strawberry Swing doesn't make you feel happy, then you're already dead. I'm surprised to say that this is my favourite song on the album, and everytime I listen to it, nothing else seems to matter, and I can escape to some indefinable paradise for 4 minutes or so!

23-Dec-08 - Belfast, Odyssey Arena - Meetups, Review/Photos (originally 18 Dec)
75 separate Odyssey ticket items for sale on eBay already. It's sad to see plenty with photos of actual tickets who must've bought them in person this morning with the express intention of imeediately hawking them online. I don't know what the protocol is on this forum in terms of swearing, but hopefully nobody will object too much to me calling these people fucking parasites who always end up with the best tickets.

23-Dec-08 - Belfast, Odyssey Arena - Meetups, Review/Photos (originally 18 Dec)
Neil, Yes, my ticket confirmation does indeed refer to the floor seating area. So what if I'm in row 52? I'm not complaining, unlike plenty of others on this forum today!

23-Dec-08 - Belfast, Odyssey Arena - Meetups, Review/Photos (originally 18 Dec)
Another complaining thread has appeared in the Live forum too - why, for God's sake? I prefer to sit, others prefer to stand - both are entitled to their opinions. But, for whatever reason, the UK tour is all-seated, and that's an inescapable fact! Yes, the tickets are getting more expensive, but aren't bad for a band of Coldplay's calibre. For example, U2 will almost certainly be touring in 2009, and the cheapest ticket for any of their shows is unlikely to be less than £60 the way things are going. Don't even start me about Madonna... Bottom line - if you want to see Coldplay live in the UK this year, then just buy a ticket and quit whining. The worst seat in any venue is always better than not being there at all. The thing is, the way the shows are selling out, those who want to take a principled stand are clearly in the minority.

Returning to the fold
Hi, joined this forum in Dec 2005 but apparently only ever made one post between then and today. Was amazed to realise that my account was still active, and intend to make up for lost time by posting on at least a semi-regular basis! Am looking forward to seeing the band live in December.

How did everyone get on this morning?
Row 52 on the floor for Belfast Odyssey. Thrilled at being able to see Coldplay at last.

23-Dec-08 - Belfast, Odyssey Arena - Meetups, Review/Photos (originally 18 Dec)
Hi Hayley. Good news about your tickets. Wish I could go to both shows but am delighted to be going to one. Based on demand, I think that Coldplay could certainly play larger / outdoor venues if they wanted to, so it'll be great to see them in an indoor arena so close to home! There seems to be a lot of complaining on this board today, but like I said, I don't give a damn that it's an all-seated show. I don't think I'll be sitting down much anyway.

23-Dec-08 - Belfast, Odyssey Arena - Meetups, Review/Photos (originally 18 Dec)
Wow, it's been so long since I've posted here that I'm amazed that my account is still active. But, it's good to be back. Time to make up for lost time with a lengthy post! Good news first - I got tickets! Yay! The bad news - floor seating, row 52. (Not really bad news, and I'm not going to complain about this - better to be there than not, especially as I missed out completely on the Odyssey instant sellout in 2005.) Minor complaint time - I wish the 2nd show would've been advertised upfront and not just added without warning. After logging on and refreshing constantly from 9am onwards, Ticketmaster started showing no tickets available at all from 9.05am onwards. But, I persisted as small numbers of tickets usually show up again (if people don't complete orders on time etc). So, after a bit of persistence, it was with great relief that two floor seats became available. It didn't matter that they were at the very back - they were on offer, so I grabbed them. About £94 for two tickets is a lot of money, but since I've never seen Coldplay live before, I was a happy man. Until...I went back to the main Ticketmaster page, and noticed that another show had been stealthily added. Out of curiosity, I checked and could've got row 24! Oh well, since I couldn't afford to go to another concert, I let them go with some regret. Just a minor gripe though. I'm delighted to be going at all, and I don't care that it's an all seated concert. I'm sure there's plenty of people who missed out. A few questions and observations though: - Obviously the 18th Dec show must be sold out, but is anything still available for the 19th? A friend of mine got tickets at 11am from Wonderland Promotions, and apparently Ticketmaster were showing sold out at that stage. - Where did all the good seats go, and how did they go so quickly? (To scalpers and 'agencies' presumably. I can't check eBay at work, but I guess there's plenty there already.) For the 2005 Belfast show, I remember that a significant chunk of the tickets seemed to go in the presale, which meant that the allocation for the general sale was already pretty small, and so sold out almost instantly. But there was no presale today, so did anyone get lucky and get near the front?
