The Coldplay gigs that are impossible to forget (for all the wrong reasons...)
Aren't all the posts on here property of the poster and coldplaying.com? Or can anything you post publicly then be quoted anywhere else without any credit? I wouldn't be happy either.

2012 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS!! // FINALS: 8TH JUNE - 1ST JULY (draw on pg14)
You'll never win a game against half-decent opposition with Parker and Milner - it's far too negative/not progressive enough. I'm a Spurs fan but if it's one or the other I'd go for Milner, playing Parker's role - far more mobile and attack-minded (and capable). If you want someone to sit in that disciplined role (which you probably do at the Euros in later rounds - if we get there) there Parker's your man, but you sacrifice a lot going forward (he is the David Batty of his generation). We British are famous for our poor foreign language skills :embarrassed: It's something I wish I was much, much better at, but alas I have not the talent :( Quite funny really as my career is (until now) teaching English to foreign students :laugh3: A recurring element of the humour of Only Fools and Horses is Del's ignorance of foreign languages e.g. when the German girl is about to give birth and Del is so kind to her, and she thanks him, he holds her hand tenderly and says...'Vorsprung durch Technik' :laugh3:

2012 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS!! // FINALS: 8TH JUNE - 1ST JULY (draw on pg14)
So, 'trails' means draw? Struggling to follow here! Yeah I'm probably as much Irish, Welsh and Kenyan as I am English, but heigh ho I was born here. I'm not especially supporting us unless we get to the QFs, preferably with Terry either injured or banned. He is a racist thug and I can't follow us while he plays, but it is no great loss really after 30 years of hurt, and I have to be honest I was already pretty indifferent before John 'shinpads' Terry was passed fit (physically, not mentally!!) :\

Are you English/an Anglophile then Tracie? And what is it you agree with Bart about? I couldn't understand a word of that post :laugh3:

I really can understand that, but looking at the other side of things I think you're lucky! I've been down on the floor plenty of times without getting near a balloon!

Yeah, I think it's the same here (I think they even pop them during the song when they get near, generally :\) and then of course there was that 'thing' where in Yellow one balloon always used to 'coincidentally' pop up on stage right at the end for Chris to pop (which was awesome ). On Monday at the Emirates they just sent out loads and it was fantastic, plus it didn't (for me) detract from later songs at all, it was a joy to see them still going :sunny: On Saturday we were in GA seating and none got close to us, on Monday we were the level above and quite a few came our way  Yes, yes, we get it - you're a VIP pisshead :P Great stuff, and what a plaudit now you have such hard-working mods again on the site, congrats, really pleasing to read :)

Call me 'Del' :laugh3: Je suis désolé - edited :) He's suspended because he is a thug :\

Mad at setlist
I disagree with Clocks vs Fix You - the latter everyone absolutely loves live. Clocks the casuals love, and quite a few (probably the majority) of long-term fans, but I think there's a feeling amongst the (largish) minority that it's gone on too long... Agreed about In My Place - it's one of the most euphoric songs they ever play :)

2012 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS!! // FINALS: 8TH JUNE - 1ST JULY (draw on pg14)
I don't care much about the football (especially not with that racist Terry playing for us) but the English and French together reminded me of a classic line from Only Fools and Horses: Del: What's the French for 'duck'? Rodders: It's 'canard' Del: Too right it is! :laugh3:

Mad at setlist
Indeed  Last time I ever take her - she will shortly be up on ebay as a Coldplay concert 'buddy' (earplugs included). She won't fetch much, but that's ok. To adapt an old joke - "take my sister - please" :laugh3:

Mad at setlist
I think the problem is it still gets one of the loudest cheers from the really casual fans (like my sister, who couldn't even be bothered to listen to MX before the concert :shocked2: and then spends all night moaning in my ear she doesn't know the songs :() I'd take absolutely anything else from ARoB over Clocks, or from x&y (esp Square One!!) or from Parachutes (esp Everything's Not Lost!!). Interestingly the breakdown of songs was/is (not counting played back instrumentals - probably wrong because maths is not my strong point): MX - 9 ARoB - 5 VLV - 3 x&y - 2 :o Parachutes - 1 :shocked2: Fair play for them to have so much faith in the new album, and it's refreshing for a band like them to not rest on their laurels and mix things up by bringing back tracks like Warning Sign (this tour) and The Hardest Part (last). But if you're going to drop the likes of Politik, keeping Clocks is the ultimate 'resting on your laurels' for me. I know as many people who aren't bothered about it as passionately love it (unlike, perhaps, Fix You or even In My Place which seem universally appreciated)... Time for the chop, Clocks :wink3: :laugh3:

I like as many balloons as possible and love them lasting for as long as possible (who are all the idiots who pop them?!). It's only distracting if you let it be I think! There were loads more at the Emirates on the Monday than the Saturday, and it was much better imo. Welcome to the site Mike, glad you had such a great night :)

Mad at setlist
I think the tour's presently a couple of songs short - it feels it. One main stage and one C-stage. It takes them so long to get there and back it's a bit of a waste of time right now (it's not, because it's lovely, but time wasted > playing time with just two songs). Politik is not only imo their best song live, it's their best song ever, so it was a real shock it was dropped. I never thought I'd see the day! I was certain they'd add it in at the 2nd or 3rd Emirates gigs once they'd got used to the rest of the set. I can only think that: a) It's so powerful, such a highlight, that it'd overshadow some of the 'lighter' MX stuff. It's got the same kind of energy as DLIBYH, for example, but has an extra edge. b) They just really need a break from it to come back with it re-invigorated at a later stage (a la GPaS - which was almost as strange an omission in it's full form on the last tour) I just hope it's b)! Otherwise it's incredible to have LiJ back so far  I think they may replace it with Lost in NA, but for me not to play Lovers is madness, it's one of their most exciting songs live, incredible energy (and the versions at the Emirates were the best I've ever heard - they really rocked it :sunny:) Warning Sign - what can I say? I've heard this once - ONCE!! - in nine years of following this band, and that was in 2005. One of their most beautiful, tender songs, spine-tingling songs. I hope everyone on this tour is lucky enough to see it. So the only problem for me is that it's a little bit short still - I thought between the London 02 show and these ones - six months after all - they could have added one or two more as they usually do. But, perhaps that's it, and like MX itself they wanted to leave it short and snappy and people crying out for more? I didn't miss Politik as much as I thought, but I certainly wouldn't like to think it's gone for good!! Oh, and I seem to be in a minority on this one, but I wish they'd get rid of Clocks. I was sick of it by the end of the x&y tour...

Fascinating, thanks Ian, glad you guys had an amazing time :D How lovely of Phil and Debs! Just hope you VIP/friends and family sorts will lower yourself to mix with us riffraff from time to time :laugh3: I can be rather critical myself, but had really hoped no-one connected with the band had been on here much when all the Teardrop and Paradise (neither of which clicked with me until I saw them live) stuff was going crazy - a lot of posts were from people who don't even come here for Coldplay anymore!! I think the Emirates was the most cohesive show I've ever seen them play with the way the dynamics of the songs and special effects came together, and I've never seen them happier or more assured, so a lot of good's come out of this era for me, despite about half the album being very 'disposable'. Would it work so well in an arena without the fireworks? I'm not so sure. I personally don't think they'll ever have a better opener than HLH, Charlie Brown's incredible as is UatW, Princess of China rocks, for me, Paradise is a big hit with everyone live, and the 'new' generation of fans adore it, so it'll certainly be very interesting to see where they go from here...I think some of those songs are as good as their very best, HLH probably one of the best ever. No more UK gigs though? Will I never see Lovers in Japan, Warning Sign, Violet Hill and Princess of China on the same setlist again?! <edit> don't answer that please I can't take it!!

Xylobands: Would You Pay Extra to Keep Them at Future Concerts?
I would buy three extra bands for a tenner (£10) for sure, to make four in total - two on each wrist :P The standing tickets were the same price as the last tour, but many of the seated tickets were more by £10 I think. And the delivery fees and stuff for Ticketmaster and the other sites seems to have gone up...and this is not money that goes to the band and crew (who are the only ones who deserve it) :(
-
Xylobands: Would You Pay Extra to Keep Them at Future Concerts?
No most definitely not. I'd pay a pound or two (probably about cost price) for a second one (I actually think they're misssing a marketing trick here), otherwise, apart from Chris's poor joke on the matter, they've increased most ticket prices for this tour (at least in the UK), so it's really a non-issue.

Right, off to bed (at last!) It WAS an absolutely sensational gig, and I wander off to slumber a very happy man after a fantastic evening :) Anyone who is yet to see this leg of the tour for the first time is in for a shock and a treat I promise - or your money back ;) Thank you so much Coldplay, for one of the best weekends of my life :sunny:

I should have put that in my review Tracie because that's the main point I think really, and I do get that. If the band aren't happy, comfortable, and enjoying themselves then what's the point, and in actual fact they probably wouldn't go on making music or touring, so they need to do what they need to do. And what better way to try to cope with playing to a 60 000 crowd in your hometown and break the tension totally than invite your comic mate up on stage and just mess about... from a fan's point of view I think it's a shame, especially when the set is so short, and they dare to leave out Politik consistently for the first time ever. I never thought I'd see the day. Plus the time wasted to get to the C-stage for just two songs, and one of them you get this :/ The concert was 1 hr 35mins but I think they probably actually played 15 or 20 mins less than that with time taken up doing other things (playing tapes of MX, A Hopeful Transmission etc or moving around). Just one other random thought is that about half the crowd seemed to be touristy types. And who says Coldplay aren't a business when they play three huge London concerts over the Jubilee weekend :laugh3: More photos, a few good videos and a short review are for tomorrow. I seriously need a sleep and got to wake up early for school :( Uh, uh....wow. Those are incredible photos! I hate people quoting long posts of photos but in this case everyone deserves to see this I think...great stuff :shocked2: :sunny:

Thanks mate :) Pegg was diabolical, I just want to forget him, and feel so sorry for people who didn't get a proper version of Speed of Sound like we did on Saturday :( No-one from club level up seemed to recognise him anyway, so I really don't get the point. Anyway, I'll shut up about this now! While it certainly wasn't the high point, I need to focus on the rest of the gig which was, as usual, tremendous :)

So... Home, home again, I like to be here when I can ;) It's very, very early to be writing any sort of review, as I haven't had time to reflect, so here are a few (no doubt garbled and ill-organised) thoughts :laugh3: I'll edit this now to put it in spoiler tags. It is loooooooooooooooooooooooooong, and very self-indulgent. You have been warned! :) Cheers!!!

[4-Jun-2012] Coldplay @ Emirates Stadium, London, UK
Just rolled in, cracked open a cold IPA, sat back and had a reflective ciggie on the balcony, and am gathering my thoughts for my review... Just to reply to a few things on this page first (haven't had time to look back at the other pages yet): He was round the back of the gig, there was loads of room. I felt more sorry for the guy in the (very tight :stunned:) pink panther costume on Saturday stuck out in the rain! Um, they played it three nights ago and two nights ago too :laugh3: I get the novelty value of Simon Pegg but as I'm not a fan it doesn't do anything for me. And he absolutely KILLED Speed of Sound with his dreadful, dreadful harmonica. I know he can play it - I've seen him join the band before. But he was utterly awful trying to play along with this, and trashed the song imo :veryangry2: No, I think it's the first time I've seen them there wasn't an 'accidental' mess up :laugh3: So glad you had a great time - we did too!!
