THE SHERLOCK THREAD
Alright. Celien - please read my last post :)

THE SHERLOCK THREAD
The first episode (of three) was brilliant. The second two were rubbish - badly written, nonsense plots... That's a problem, because however good the actors (and they are brilliant) are they can't make up for a story that simply makes no sense. The series has incredible potential though, let's hope for more this time round :)

Shouldn't they play this live?!
I'm not so sure. It's a pretty strong song (that awful late-on repeat effect aside), but I think it's a B-side or (actually what it is now) album filler for a band with all-time aspirations like Coldplay. Just check out Mersey Paradise (a B-side) by the Stone Roses for how sweet a song like this can be :) I'm honestly surprised they included it on the album. But I'm glad. The production's erratic but overall it's pretty uplifting. And it's lovely to (finally!) hear them acknowledging their Stone Roses influences with tracks like this and Jonny's guitar on HLH. That track's as good as anything the Roses ever did, for me, and you will never get stronger praise than that from here! Live though it could transform totally (like all Coldplay tracks :)) Let's see what the boys do with it, hopefully they could let it rip, and the song grow a life of its own - I'd definitely be open to that!! :sunny:

Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
In your opinion. Others may have different opinions - I and most of London do for starters - (and still others may have different gripes, which as I said may need other threads).

Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
Look, don't take out your frustrations on me - start your own thread (and I will support you in that!!) This thread is about how the band have neglected the UK :)

Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
Oh do please shut up. How many gigs have Coldplay played 'in your backyard' EVER? That's right - once. And it was in North America (surprise, surprise). Did you get a chance to go?

Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
Happy to explain :) - I was initially counting back to September 2009, which is over two years, just to include the Wembley concerts. That seemed to cause confusion for some people, so I stopped, and simply counted two years. There's been ONE gig in London in that time. We're talking 'gigs' here - with tickets that the general public can buy. That doesn't count for Norwich, iTunes or Dingwalls. they played one gig in London and it sold out in less than three minutes. The touts made a killing (even probably more than the band or the promoter). Please forget my father - I only mentioned him because someone questioned my own circumstances. I am not asking for the band to 'constantly' play London (or is more than once in two years considered 'constant'?)

Sorry, no, they don't count. I fully sympathise, but we're talking about proper gigs here.

Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
There's been ONE London date in the last two years. There's been ONE London gig. ONE. The others were harder to get into (assuming you're also talking about Norwich) than Fort Knox, so they don't count. I am a carer for a disabled father and need to be home almost constantly for him. London is nearby and I can make it there for an evening occasionally, but unfortunately, despite Coldplay living there, they choose not to play there. So they HAVE played NYC? That was the very point of my post - I was amazed to hear they (possibly) hadn't. And they did not play any festival leg in London.
-
Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
Coldplay haven't played a single gig in NYC since 2008?
-
Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
I'm not saying they should favour the UK because they're from here and live here. I'm saying they haven't, relatively, played enough dates here (especially compared to North America) for three years now.

Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
No backyard ridiculousness asked for, or required - I think more than one or two shows in London every two years would make us happy (seeing as they live here and everything). <edit> This is not about any other country. We all understand there are countries they've never visited and countries they never will, and I am sure wish all those folks had a chance to see them too. This is about them neglecting the UK considering they live here, come from here, and it's not far for them to travel to play here. And, in those terms, I think three gigs in two years in London is a joke.

Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
They're no bigger in the UK than they are in the States or many parts of Europe. If they'd played three dates in London at the 02 like they did in '08 then the touts' profits would have been at least halved, plus a lot more of the fans who wanted to could have seen them. There were no killings to be made on the three 02 show tickets in '08. For this one show this year standing tickets were going for £200+ EACH. I don't see you point I'm afraid.

[17-Dec-2011] Coldplay @ Ahoy, Rotterdam, Netherlands
Sounds like an amazing gig!! :D I think after the sterility of the crowd at the 02 gig in London I may have to get myself around to European gigs to enjoy a bit of atmosphere (as well as meeting old friends and enjoying different cultures) :) Yikes at the short set though - sort it out boys

[6-Dec-2011] Radio 2 Gig: Coldplay @ Dingwalls, London, UK (15-Dec-11 Broadcast Date) tickets availa
I've just caught up with this now, stunning gig :shocked2: After the disappointment of the arena setting of the 02, the setlist, and the way the band played to the audience (or rather didn't), this kind of thing surely has to be the way to see the band if you can manage it! I really hope those who managed to get in appreciate just how lucky they are :)

Coldplay don't tour the UK enough?
Completely agree OP. It's a joke (and not a very good one!) For Viva they went off and played the US for six months before even one gig at 'home' - but then we did get three in London. This time they've been playing festivals around the world for almost the same amount of time and we get...one. (It's different from Canada, the US or any other country, because they - mostly - live here. They can take the tube to play a gig!)

[9-Dec-2011] Coldplay @ O2 Arena, London, UK
Really glad so many people enjoyed the gig so much :sunny: Many thanks for the videos everyone, it's like being at a different gig with that close up detail :) I think they really missed video screens - the circular screens are very arty, but there just didn't seem enough intimacy without seeing some of the close stuff properly. Sorry for the late reply, and also so very sorry to hear about your mum  I so relate to what you wrote - my mum passed away in Feb 2007, and Viva La Vida coming out the following summer was really what lifted me up into feeling truly happy once again for the first time. It gave me a lot of hope and inspiration. I am so glad you found your way back to Coldplay and that their new music and this gig have meant and helped so much - it's absolutely wonderful that they can touch people so deeply, isn't it? :sunny: Thank you for your very kind words about my review. It's always a pleasure to have a different point of view from other people but to understand where they are coming from :) I'll drop you a quick PM to make sure you see this very late reply :)

Just seen it - great performance BUT they should never, ever have dignified that absolute dross with their presence. Gutted. The "nos" were way ahead before the apparent huge influx of new X-factor visitors and forum members, so I think the vote is meaningless now. I think they ALL believe they act in the best interest of the band, and this time Chris and Jonny (was it?) won out, but in the short term at least I don't think this will work out at all well in the UK - expect more casual fans than ever before in the next year or two, only there to hear the hits and enjoy the wristbands and confetti... A very sad day for the band imho.

Christmas lights gets interupted at under 1 roof
I can see the whole point of the joke was that he interrupted them during one of their own Christmas songs - and it worked very well for that. But to ruin Christmas Lights at only the third or fourth (?) time it's been played live ever is absolutely scandalous in my opinion - no doubt if they'd played it all it would have been the highlight of the whole night :(

[9-Dec-2011] Coldplay @ O2 Arena, London, UK
Yes indeed, Viva got it going, like you say near the end though...once they pulled it back from the late-early to late-middle section it erupted but by then we all knew the gig was almost over. The whole setlist for me was 'WTF?' Still, a pretty great night though as always. One of the best bands of a generation putting on a great show (even if it wasn't spot on). I should quit complaining and get to bed - nieces and a nephew who are coming early tomorrow morning and will demand all my energy :P
