If I were to fill up on variious discarded items at work in one day I will eat less when I get home, which will mean I will buy less, which will mean more food will be widely available.

But I like it! It gives me a sense of purpose.

Large companies generally waste a lot of food. By taking the odd unwanted item here and there you're actually helping balance out world hunger.
