I am talking about any really popular sport, american football= millions per year, baseball=millions per year, hockey=used to be millions, now only the really good guys get millions, soccer=millions per year. See thats just the nature of the beast. Their job just happens to be football. I dont like how much they get paid(i think it is exorbitant and unneccessary) but thats just how it is, they DO in fact get paid alot, and thats just how its always going to be with popular sports. i do see what you mean about really "working" versus being paid 120million for 5 years of football. But it seems like your quarrel is more with the amount being paid for everyone, rather than just Ronaldo....all the big name football players are being paid handsomely

hey guys, Im sure you all know i have very liberal views on government. I have been reading this thread, really trying not to post here, but i just felt compelled to give my two cents. I believe in times of war..people do what they must to get the job done. Im sure they have seen horrible things that we can only imagine, and when they were ordered to do something, they did it. Their mind set is, "whatever i have to do to get out of here, is fine by me". And although i do not agree with it, i am in no place to judge them. I have never been there, how do i know i wouldnt do the same thing? Sure i wouldnt do it with my current mindset, but maybe after seeing a few of my buddies getting blown to pieces by a car bomb, i might change my thinking a little. Basically, im not condoning what these soldiers did, in fact i didnt even read the story because they are all the same. This kind of stuff has happened in EVERY war since the beginning of time. Its just that, in every other war, the news wasnt readily available. Thats why Vietnam became so unpopular, because people could finally see what was going on (first real battlefield reporting). Now that we can see it, it is frowned upon more. Im sure that the soldiers in question here, did something wrong, but im not going to get into that because it is not my decision. On the basis of patriotism, i consider myself a very proud american. I believe in democracy and i believe in everything my fore-fathers fought to build. I do not consider liberalism, or anti-war outlooks to be unpatriotic. And i honestly find it horrible for one side to call the other side unpatriotic for not supporting certain hot issues. (btw not pointing at anyone here, but pointing at alot of the insults thrown around in the immediate aftermath of the invasion of Iraq) I was disgusted when the right was calling the left and anti-war supporters Anti american just because they did not agree. Im gonna stop now so i can rest a bit! haha

haha i knew ronaldo would play fine this game. I mean his knee is practically gone....he hasnt played very much in the past few months because of it. And when you are playing non stop football for most of your life and all of the sudden you are injured and cant play for months on end. of course you will gain some weight!!:rolleyes: But he is by no means FAT. maybe to football standards. But look at him 4 years ago in 2002, hes not a small skinny guy at all. He never has been, hes been fairly stocky for a long time. He is maybe 5 to 10 lbs heavier, and every day he plays he gets more and more into game shape as he was. look at these pics. him is 2006 BEFORE he started to get fit and lose weight sure there is some difference, but the only way to make it better is to play him now so he is ready. and by the looks of his performance against Japan, he is well on his way. "He is gradually getting fitter but the only way he will continue to get fitter is to play more games." Coach Parreira we will see him against Ghana no doubt, and hopefully he will be even better. The Brazilians were in no real fear of not making it to the round of 16. Im sure they have saved the best for last

well brazil really showed japan, and with only 1 or 2 starters!!! RONALDO IS BACK!!! 2 goals!

we like to play god. we like to think that WE are responsible for EVERYONE in the world because they cant help themselves. Its getting rediculous. People dont seem to understand that we have only been a nation for a few hundred years. And we just come in and tell everyone how it is going to be? i cant even stand to call myself an american anymore, it used to be something to be proud of, but every day its becoming more and more of a discrace. Now i love my country, but we need to start doing more nobler things, rather than watching over everyone. As for N. Korea and China for that matter, i do agree that they are dangerous and will continue to be dangerous. But we cant jump right into war after war, diplomacy must be the solvent here.

ronaldo is getting better. first game=horrible, second=alright, maybe the third he will be even better. But he is older and his knee is real torn up. this is deff his last world cup, they just want him to get two goals to tie the world record and then retire.
