A Thread for The Escapist
The price of Spam is high these days! I thought, given the faltering economy, it would come down a bit.. Something like $2.75 for a little can of the stuff! What's this world coming too?? Spam was always the last-resort food, after the A-bomb landed (supposedly the radiation improved the flavor..:P)

Have you ever been stuck in the elevator?
I recall the dorm elevators getting stuck for a while - it didn't last too long, though.. Probably the party-ers the night before did some damage to the elevators; and then there was the elevator-full-of-popcorn incident..:laugh3:

Gaza...in my heart...on my mind
All I can say is - how sad. Can anyone who is healthy fathom what a person feels when they get hit with shrapnel? And the sense of fear, of panic, or shock? That goes for either side of the conflict - it's all so hard-hearted. We speak in broad generalities - this group that group, this country, that country. But it's too far removed from the reality; knowing veterans who have come back shook to the core, physically damaged, with PTSD and lucky to be alive tells the tale of the untold damages - and they're lucky to even be alive through it all. Ten time worse are the civilians who have no safety net at all. To me it's letting things develop as they have, and responding with excessive force (and one cannot discount petty revenge by some commanders or politicos for attacks and slights, the inevitable result of those with egos unchecked by reality). Anyone remember Fallujah? For the deaths of 5 Blackwater 'contractors', someone in the command structure ordered the leveling of a whole city- thousands fled, over a hundred killed. I see both sides as responsible, but unfortunately radicals often want to further destabilize the people they identify with by picking targets and then waiting for the inevitable retaliation, which only serves to further enrage the survivors and convert more to support the radical elements.. and this works both ways. I don't want a cycle of recycled revenge - it's bad karma, and plain-old pain and suffering. A better way forward would be to aid the civilians in crisis, respond in an international level with peace-keeping troops, and bring both the rocket launchers and the heavy-handed generals to justice in the international courts. The matter should be treated as a criminal act, as both action and reaction are excessive, and extremely painful to those not wanting involvement in the conflict - and starving anyone, cutting water and electricity, or removing their jobs only sows the seeds for more violence. (A fire can only be put out with quenching water in the long run, or else the dry brush will easily burst into flame again and again.)

For your edification: Harry HOUDINI, (born Ehrich Weiss), An American magician and "escapologist". Born in Budapest, Hungary on March 24th, 1874; Died in Detroit, Michigan, USA October 31st, 1926. He was the son of a Hungarian Rabbi, taken to Appleton, Wisconsin as an infant. He began his career there performing with Jack Hoeffler's Circus in 1883. He was inspired by the memoirs of the great French magician Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin; thus the young wizard took the stage name of Houdini. His sensational escapes from handcuffs, straitjackets, prison cells, and submerged boxes earned him a reputation as an outstanding showman in his time. Houdini made the first successful airplane flight in Australia in 1910. He had a starring role in several silent films, notably The Grim Game, and Terror Island. Some of his famous feats included "The Water Torture Cell", "The Vanishing Elephant", and "Walking Through a Brick Wall". Later he would spend much of his time crusading against fraudulent mediums, exposing their methods. He also wrote several works about magic and stunts, notably "The Unmasking of Robert Houdin", and "A Magician Among the Spirits".

What are you thinking right now?
Well, he never escaped from either death or taxes(:laugh3: unless you're him..), but he did manage to wriggle out of handcuffs and a steel cage in which was submerged.. And a whole host of other escape artist things - being handcuffed and tied to a RR track with a freight locomotive barreling towards him..

U2
When you say, "U2 have had only 3 or 4 descent songs in the last 16 years.." how could I possibly be mis-interpreting you? That seems to suggest something! :P (I just had to quote you out of context - it makes for better journalism!) So, you're then suggesting that the early stuff is par-excellence, and they need to do that?? Well, I hope so too. Maybe this time, we'll get to hear Larry and Adam sing.;)

Chris Martin: Did I say that?
:laugh3:Yes that makes it an easier choice.. er.. a guarantee! Here it's a lottery ticket at best.
