  1. Hey, since everyone's after the gold artifacts, can I have one of the stones for a lawn ornament?? It would look really nice next to the old wagon in the yard..:laugh3: (I promise to point it in the proper direction, so it will keep time as it has done faithfully for so long.. And, it will be safe from being hit by an auto!) Since they're restoring the Parthenon, why not fix up Stonehenge??
  2. Truthfully, I'm betting it was my thumb.:P
  3. :lock::lock::lock::lock::lock::lock::lock::lock::lock::lock::lock::lock::lock::lock:
  4. Fuse ion Hey, let's not forget, the French have great wine and cheese!:chef: (and really good biscuits/cookies, and a lot of other really great things!) Scientists are after the truth. Some get hung up on one way of thinking at times, it has been true in the past.. But, it's a matter of bringing many disciplines together to find what's really going on, and I get the impression they have an understanding that some people really don't want to see. Let's see.. Check Out the March 2005 issue of Scientific American - a pretty good look at the whole picture... Fusion - it's already with us, and in truth, pretty much powers everything anyhow. The sun's energy and even our planet's composition, all the result of fusion. Even Uranium fuel for reactors - from fusion in an earlier star that condensed into planet Earth. However, to put fusion in a bottle - that's a trick. It's so much easier just to be smarter about how we use energy, and gather all we need from solar panels, wind, geothermal, biomass, and the like...
  5. That is neat coinage. Individually, it reminds me of some medieval mintings.. sweet!:hat::thumbsup:
  6. You were leaving for work by the light of the full moon, I gather??:):bulb::elf:
  7. Composition - paper and key Thanks Bea!! Yes, Dada and Dadaism - I had never written the word, so I just learned something new! I knew a member of the Beats (a friend who passed away just recently) who introduced me to the concepts of the Dadaists. He was at one time writing poetry with Jack Keroac and the other members of their group, and gained knowledge of the concepts from them. But the Wiki article was very interesting - I had no clue that Dadaism influenced Pop-art, Surrealism, and several other forms of art. And to think, it all began in Zurich, Switzerland in 1917, during WWI.. Rachel, you're making your own paper?? Wow, that's interesting! Something I've seen made, but never tried myself. And transcribing your compositions onto this paper - very independent and earthy!! Well, keep up the great works, and some day share your inventions - I'd like to hear what you've created! I think I'll try and go the modern route - something about the nuances of playing music, that while it can be written, for some reason (could just be my superstitions) I think it looses a few finer sounds and subtle characteristics.. Mozart hadn't any choice, but today we can opt for recording devices.. although, I like the idea of being independent enough to make paper and write down the song - that's got rustic freedom to it! By writing it down, you're sharpening your skills as a composer, paying attention to details, and understanding the composition all the better. Adding nuances can be done whence played. Useful qualities for a young musical talent - Keep up the good work!!:)

    ...& The third fellow looks like he could take an eye out if you we dancing by his side!:laugh3: Are these Martial Arts' Dances??
  9. You know, the 80's were a bit obnoxious... ;) We're almost in 2010, at which point a space odyssey with Austrian Music starts... (or was that 2000?) Oh well, time flies!:laugh3:
  10. This is too complicated. Can't they all just sleep together?:laugh3: (pardon - just me being silly again..)
  11. Hudson Bay Company, you're thinking of..:rolleyes: Besides, you get some sort of trading coins or something up there.. I forget - I'll ask our local wild-man Bill about it - he sells hides, so he should know..
  12. ^^Oh My! For me, I think it was a piece of cheese..:baby::happy:
  13. You see, low-altitude cheeses, like those made in England and elsewhere have very few of the high-energy cosmic ray collisions necessary to produce the holes. Real Swiss is aged in the ancient caves carved in the alps, which are at high altitudes, & subject to intense radiation. Thus holes result due to the formation of these micro black-holes. Fortunately, only a small piece is consumed per collision, and the cheese wheels are left in the caves just long enough to become properly holey. Swiss authorities are concerned, however, that given the power of the Hadron Collider, larger holes may form, causing either the cheese wheels to collapse from a lack of internal support, or a necessary cutting short of the aging time, resulting in Swiss that is holey, but not very sharp.:P
  14. What is the meaning of Scouts' Day in Slovenia??:)
  15. A slice of Whole Wheat Bread with melted semi-sweet chocolate on top..

  19. I Love and appreciate everyone on the board!!!!:) YEA!!! We are a window to the world that's not possible by any other means! ..The best eclectic combination anywhere, and a hope for world peace.:angel:
  20. Hydrogen economy - :thinking:I think synthetic zeolites are the answer, for storage. Nickel (part of Nickel Metal Hydride) is too rare, expensive, and environmentally risky to put into every auto on the planet.. It could work, but there's other ways as well.. Carbon Nanotubes could be one solution for energy storage, as well as flywheels, light-element batteries.. Well, what does your research tell you, Briggins?

    How true.. It's hard to part with something that still runs, and unfortunately those old beasts, while still functional, are energy hogs. We used to do just that - the old 'streamlined' fridge from the 40's or 50's went in the car port, and ran pretty much all the time.. Making the beer around $5.00 a can, when you add the cost of electricity!:o Hamms was never worth that much!:laugh3: Yea, I hear ya there. It snowed yesterday here as well. In the olden days, there was an ice-house on the farm - blocks of ice from the lake, packed in sawdust.. And that kept things cool until late August! (according to my Aunt..) So, there's the solution - just freeze a big block of water in winter, and insulate it well.. :P
  22. ^^:laugh3:^^ Every Day is Earth Day..:daisy:

    Where the electrons go.. Here's a typical breakdown of electric loads in a home here in the US: Household Loads, Hampel Family: ------------------------------------- Item | KWH/Month | % of Total | ================================== 2 Refrigerators | 225 | 37.8% | Dehumidifier | 90 | 15.1% | Air Conditioner | 82 | 13.8% | Lighting | 75 | 12.6% | Furnace Blower | 63 | 10.6% | Washer | 10 | 1.7% | Gas Dryer (spins) | 10 | 1.7% | Computer | 10 | 1.7% | Television | 9 | 1.5% | Well Pump | 8 | 1.3% | Microwave | 5 | 0.8% | DVD Recorder | 4 | 0.7% | Toaster | 2 | 0.3% | Vacuum Cleaner | 2 | 0.3% | ===================================== TOTAL : | 595 KWH / Month. So while lighting is significant, the biggest piece of the pie is in the fridge' ;). Heating and cooling systems are generally second, and then comes lighting. But, using compact fluorescents should lower this figure a bit more, and getting more daylighting helps as well (sun tubes, new weather-tight skylights, windows, etc.). I've trimmed my loads to about 215 KWH/month, and I use plenty of lighting, plus a shop building! So, it's more about better choices in appliances and insulation, using natural light, and switching to more efficient lights.
  25. Quantum-mechanical mice, no doubt then... (due to their "quantum-mechanical tunneling..":mickey:)
