  1. Hey guys, bit of a different question here... I've been looking for other musicians to form a band, so I made an ad on kijiji. I've just received a reply from someone who's looking for a pianist to play at their wedding. She is looking for someone to play for around two hours, I could technically play whatever I wanted, as long as it's slower paced or more romantic songs. Haven't decided yet if I will do it, but at the end of the day, it's more exposure I suppose and easy money for two hours. If I do it, I haven't a clue what to charge. I've looked around a bit online and saw prices from $150-250. Any ideas?
  2. How much money are you getting for your vids then from monetization? You can pm if you don't want to say here...
  3. Even those 15/30 sec ads before youtube videos? I'm not talking about ads placed on the banners of sites.
  4. Are they that annoying? I've seen them on my videos plenty of times, and I'm not even a partner, so I'm not sure that would be a real issue. I don't have much experience with blogs and such I'm afraid...do you make good money with this site though? Just curious :) Is nobody here a partner then? I'm feeling really inclined to doing it at the moment, but I want to ask some people who are in it that I can trust (ie. coldplayers).
  5. I can still upload whatever I want, but I can only enable monetization on songs by UMG. But about how much have you been making? It's based on per 1000 views.
  6. Hi guys, Partnership on YouTube has been around for a while...I've never attempted to apply via Youtube/Google; mostly because I am unfamiliar with the process and what it involves. I'm also lazy. However, I was recently offered a contract with a 3rd party company called Fullscreen. I've done some research, and they are a Youtube certified company and everything. They've offered me a 80/20 split of monetization, some other little perks are that there won't be any copyright issues with my piano covers, granted that they are part of Universal Music Group, and are included in the Fullscreen library of songs (which I'm told includes over 150 000 tracks). The one who contacted me seems very knowledgeable, answers all my questions in detail, I think this is her full time job. I guess my question is, do any of you hold partnerships with your YouTube channels? Is it worth it? I'm trying to see how much I would really make, but everyone who asks seems to have smaller Youtube audience, and are gamers, so it is not such a fair comparison. Any help would be appreciated!
  7. That's me. :) And thanks for the tweet Ian!
  8. Another one here...If anyone can PM me the song, that'd be great! :)
  9. Guys, does anyone know the time it'll be released? Too lazy to look through the thread pages, haha :)
  10. Thanks! Largest purchase I've made. :) It wasn't so much the price. I was aiming to spend less initially, but a couple hundred more isn't that much difference. I could've afforded to go a couple thousand more, but I feel those ones aren't worth it. It's just that it only has 14 different voices, I will only use about 4 of them maybe. I'm used to having a large selection, even if I probably wouldn't use most of them. I still have access to my old keyboard though, it's just in the basement. I probably should have looked at more stage pianos to be really sure about my choice. After it arrived, I thought to myself that I should get an additional stage piano in the near future to cover my grounds. Also, when I first heard it in my room, it sounded so electric and not real. That's probably just with all dps though, headphones are the way to go. One of the grand piano voices is a bit softer (ideal for classical), but one or two notes in the middle sound like they weren't sampled well, but maybe its just me. You can change the brilliance of the voices though, and I found a combination that I think sounds really great. Two of the other piano sounds are just useless to be honest, unless maybe you layer them with other piano sounds. But the strings and even the chorus voices sound so realistic, I feel like I can make good soundtrack music if I wanted to. I'm just getting used to the proper timing with the strings, as the sensitivity is a lot different to what I'm used to.
  11. Nice! Those are some great covers. What program do you use for midi recording? Garageband (what I normally use) doesn't recognize half-pedalling so it removes some notes you play altogether at those points. I ended up going for the Yamaha clp 430 though: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHYJ547f_io]Yann Tiersen - La Dispute (orchestral piano + strings version) - YouTube[/ame] I was regretting it a bit when it first arrived, but right now I think I love it. I would have loved to try it, there aren't any casio dealers where I live and I just can't order something like that without knowing how it feels.
  12. Thanks for the replies guys :) No, I was never gonna buy one second hand. Brand new for me! I'm mainly using it for home use and YouTube recordings. (I'd like to join a band as well, so that's why I was thinking about the stage pianos, but haven't found anyone yet, not sure I will...) I visited two more music stores. I know about the clavinova series, I never researched them before because I thought they were out of my price range. Turns out the CLP-430 ( http://ca.yamaha.com/en/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalpianos/clp_series/clp-430/?mode=model ) is at a decent price, they offered it for about $2000, when the price tag said $2199. When I came back the next day, the price tag said $2088....interesting. It feels great though, and sounds nice too, strings are amazing. It's main drawback for me is that it only has 14 tones. I also found a Kawai CN34: http://www.kawaius.com/main_links/digital/CNxx4/cn34.html ...pretty similar in look. Was offered at $2295 when price tag was $2499. This one has over 300 tones, and a loop feature, you have to click/scroll through a ton to get to most of them though. I did the smart thing by bringing my laptop and recorded some samples to compare the piano tones of the models. I think the Yamaha wins there (in comparing the main concert piano of the Kawai). So it's between these two...
  13. Hello coldplayers, I've done a number of coldplay piano covers on YouTube, which some of you may or may not have seen: I've had that keyboard for 7 years or so, and am looking to upgrade now. It is a Yamaha YPG-525 model. The piano sampling is pretty horrible, and it only has lightly weighted keys. I've looked around the net, and everyday I get more confused as to which model would suit me best. I want fully weighted keys, with a decent piano sampling worth upgrading to, and a decent selection of tones. I've mostly been using piano and strings as of late, so maybe I don't need a whole variety, but I'm used to having them there if I need it. I thought I was going to go for Roland FP-80, but in person its just not that spectacular. I've looked at the Yamaha YDP v240, which is the exact same thing as the DGX/YPG series, just with bigger speakers it seems, not worth the money imo. I've read this piano "experts" blog about digital pianos, and he likes the casio PX-780, which covers a lot of needs at only $999. It seems like a decent choice, would have to try it first, but I don't know about buying a casio model over Yamaha... I could keep going, but does anyone have any suggestions for me? Or any tips? I could spend up to $2000, preferably lower of course. I was also thinking about the Yamaha P155, which I've yet to try, but I hear the higher octaves are quite rough, and maybe even the Yamaha YDP 181. But like I said, everyday I keep finding new models which may work. I'm not sure how I feel about stage pianos...they have a lot of features, but I don't know that I would need all of them, plus they require some monitors for live sound output. Help :(
  14. Not too many piano covers of this song out there so I thought I'd give this oldie a go. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlbZPnQSXE8&feature=plcp]Coldplay - In My Place (HQ piano cover + Coldplay live) - YouTube[/ame] But yes, I also did do this song just to put that clip in :) Finally saw them live after 10 years of being a fan.
  15. Oh ok, well mine's still a digital camera. Its just got better zoom than most, haha. How long is the show usually? It's been a while since I've been to a concert, and I haven't been to many.
  16. If anyone cares, I set up a soundcloud account where you can download some of my covers. I haven't put everything up there yet, but a couple Coldplay songs are there, including Moving to Mars. Enjoy :) And thanks again for your comments!
  17. Finally! Imma be going to my first Coldplay concert. I'm going to bring my camera, which is a little bigger than the pocket-sized ones, they aren't too strict about that are they? Also, what time should I be getting there?
  18. Hey guys, As some of you may know, I'm a solo pianist. But I've been interested in finding other musicians the past little while, to form a band. What's the best way to find a singer and/or guitarist, or other musicians really, in your local area? I've posted things on some music classifieds sites, but haven't gotten anything I'm interested in. Any suggestions?

I don't have my midi cord yet, I'll get it once my amazing recording headphones arrive; which honestly should be soon. Is it okay if I send just the straight recordings? It just sounds like what's on the videos basically. I'm not sure if you can work with that, but if you could that'd be great. I'll probably send some of my old stuff.

Thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated. spintercell, that track sounds really great. That's along the lines of what I'd like my recordings to sound like. Were you using midi with that? I've only been using direct recordings, but I think I might give midi another go (last time I tried it, there was severe lag between what I was playing and when it was recording, but I didn't have my mac then). I'll have to go get a cord. Logic should still come with a decent selection of piano sounds though right? That'd be great if you could work on some of my stuff just so I know what difference it makes though.

  22. Does anyone have any experience with this software? As some of you may know, I make a lot of piano covers (http://www.youtube.com/kc89). I've been using Garageband to just directly record what I'm playing, and add a few minor effects. I'd like to go further though, to make my recordings sound more professional, especially if I'm layering and such. Is getting Logic a step in the right direction? Easy to learn? Will it make a difference? Any help would be appreciated!

  24. Finally get to see them live, can't believe it. Got some floor seats thanks to my mom's amex card! Not incredibly close, but can't get any better than that with general sale right? They better add more cities, that way I can see them twice.
