Which do you prefer? I definitely like the second half better. The melody is catchier, the guitar groove is infectious, and Chris's voice at the end...perfect. Beautiful little piano outro as well. On the other hand, the first half drags on a tad long, and I think those spacey, harmonic ascending synths are kind of cheesy. Not bad, but it sounds like b-side material. I was underwhelmed until the the guitars came back in. It's no Amsterdam, but it's pretty great nonetheless. Thoughts?

Does Up With The Birds consist of 2 different songs? The first part sounds really different than the last part. Still I think it's really beautiful.

It's such a great song to end the album on... Why don't they play it live? They didn't play it in the build up to MX and it looks like its missed off the the tour setlist.

Seen as you can purchase the 500 limited copy LP on ebay for around £20, I'm just wondering if it'd be a good investment? Will the price of these rise?

From the Oracle... May 9, 2012 - submitted by Eline, Belgium Q. I saw photos of Chris kite-flying. Does he always wear the MX-shirt? I thought it only was for concerts. Have a nice day! BTW: setlist is great! Please come to Belgium! The Oracle replies: The only time the guys wear stage gear is for on stage, video shoots, photo shoots and interviews. I would put money therefore on those photos being taken at one of the above - but obviously not a live show. Do you think that the kite-flying is from a possible Up With the Birds video shoot?

The birds they sang at 2 am "Go to bed" I hear them say It's so hard to just fall asleep - aoh The Birds they sang all a choir "Go to sleep a little earlier" It's a drag on a friday* night The sky is black Dreamed that lie till i lied With all my pillows on the floor My arms turn wings wrapped into my quilt Try to climb back into my bed And then I am back in my dreams Might have to sleep without a proper bed On a couch where the springs are so terribly hard But I won't show or fear any pain Even though my bare legs are so terribly frozen A simple cold But I know one day A heating's coming our way A simple cold But I know one day A heating's …

Hi all. After seeing several tabs which sounded nothing like the real song I decided to tab it as (I think) they play it live. My resources where the actual Mylo Xyloto sheet music (the table at the back doesn't give much away, just the actual tuning and capo position they play the song live in) and my ears. Sorry if it's not clear when the chords are played, the forum is stripping out all the spaces when I try and put in the right place above the lyrics. I've just tabbed the acoustic guitar part in the second half of the song for now (as it's the main guitar), maybe someone else can do the 2 electric guitar parts behind it. Timing: - 4/4 Strumming patterns: -…

To the avid Coldplayer, obviously you will hear this song, and hear it many times. But t everyone else, I feel like they will write it off as a piano outro. I was blown away when I had my first listen, absolutely in love with this tune, and maybe it's okay if it doesn't get the mainstream hype that the singles get. :)

I was listening to UWTB the other day and started to get really emotional. The lyrics 'A spark in a sea of grey' could be talking about them as a band I think. 'Dreamed that lie til its true' could be about believing in themselves as a band (particularly Chris) and believing that they're good enough even when they don't think its true. 'Might have to go where they don't know my name, float all over the world just to see her again' I think this directly refers to Chris possibly not wanting to be recognised anymore and wanting to just be with Gwenyth and hia family. 'but I won't show or feel any pain, even though all my armour might rust in the rain' I think this suggests i…

This is the part where it is transitioning to the other half of the song. But I just wanted to share with ya'll that this little part scares me. I am not trying to be funny or want attention but it genuinely scares me in a good way. Mainly the grunt Chris gives is what frightens me but not in the way that I cant sleep at night haha. Idk music makes us feel so many different things.

Anyone else think the second part sounds like New Radicals - You've Got The Music In You. I love the song. Probably my favourite on the album.

Hey there, I'm a relatively new fan of Coldplays, I've always been aware of their music, but never invested much time or energy. However, when I discovered that one of my favorite singers, Juanita Stein of Howling Bells was doing backing vocals on Up With the Birds, i had no choice but to check it out. And my, how pleasantly surprised I am! It's a really beautiful track, somehow, Juanita's managed to bring her own unique brand of atmospheric vocals and energy to the song. I'm eagerly anticipating my copy of the album! Cheers AR

And no he isn't going to sue! :) http://www.brianmay.com/brian/brianssb/brianssb.html Sun 30 Oct 11 COLDPLAY SAMPLES DRIVEN BY YOU Just a word about the Coldplay news, in case there's any doubt. Yes - Chris rang me up a couple of months ago and asked me if they could use that very small vocal sample from "Driven by You". I was pleased to say yes. It's a great track - very innovative - and I'm well happy to be a part of it. Coldplay seem to have opened another door and walked straight through. I take my hat off to them. I just got my MX album and im very happy. but when I picked up the disc, I saw that it stood a sort of text behind it. There stood : Up with the birds features backing vocals by Juanita Stein and a sample of Driven By You by Brian May. Have you guys seen this or noticed this?

The lyrics "The birds, they sang at break of day/Start again, I hear them say" pop up in Q magazines review of the album. Seeing as a writers credit to this track is towards Leonard Cohen, I've forever been thinking "What if it's hallelujah?". These lyrics fit to the melody line "I heard there was a broken chord/that david played and it pleased the lord". Do you think Coldplay have used Hallelujah as their sample? Sorry, this accidentally got posted in the DLIBYH sub forum. Ooops :S

Am I the only one who think that it was inspired by Sigur Rós? Especially in the first part of the song.

So in the second part of the song, the bass line sounds really familiar, like it's from another song, but I can't quite place it. Anyone hear it too? Or know what it is? Or am I just crazy?
