It looks like the perfect soundtrack for a film I really love it

Which do you prefer? I definitely like the second half better. The melody is catchier, the guitar groove is infectious, and Chris's voice at the end...perfect. Beautiful little piano outro as well. On the other hand, the first half drags on a tad long, and I think those spacey, harmonic ascending synths are kind of cheesy. Not bad, but it sounds like b-side material. I was underwhelmed until the the guitars came back in. It's no Amsterdam, but it's pretty great nonetheless. Thoughts?

Does Up With The Birds consist of 2 different songs? The first part sounds really different than the last part. Still I think it's really beautiful.

It's such a great song to end the album on... Why don't they play it live? They didn't play it in the build up to MX and it looks like its missed off the the tour setlist.

Hi all. After seeing several tabs which sounded nothing like the real song I decided to tab it as (I think) they play it live. My resources where the actual Mylo Xyloto sheet music (the table at the back doesn't give much away, just the actual tuning and capo position they play the song live in) and my ears. To the avid Coldplayer, obviously you will hear this song, and hear it many times. But t everyone else, I feel like they will write it off as a piano outro. I was blown away when I had my first listen, absolutely in love with this tune, and maybe it's okay if it doesn't get the mainstream hype that the singles get. :)

This is the part where it is transitioning to the other half of the song. But I just wanted to share with ya'll that this little part scares me. I am not trying to be funny or want attention but it genuinely scares me in a good way. Mainly the grunt Chris gives is what frightens me but not in the way that I cant sleep at night haha. Anyone else think the second part sounds like New Radicals - You've Got The Music In You. I love the song. Probably my favourite on the album.

Hey there, I'm a relatively new fan of Coldplays, I've always been aware of their music, but never invested much time or energy. However, when I discovered that one of my favorite singers, Juanita Stein of Howling Bells was doing backing vocals on Up With the Birds, i had no choice but to check it out. And my, how pleasantly surprised I am! It's a really beautiful track, somehow, Juanita's managed to bring her own unique brand of atmospheric vocals and energy to the song. Yes - Chris rang me up a couple of months ago and asked me if they could use that very small vocal sample from "Driven by You". I was pleased to say yes. I just got my MX album and im very happy. but when I picked up the disc, I saw that it stood a sort of text behind it. There stood : Up with the birds features backing vocals by Juanita Stein and a sample of Driven By You by Brian May. Have you guys seen this or noticed this?

The lyrics "The birds, they sang at break of day/Start again, I hear them say" pop up in Q magazines review of the album. Seeing as a writers credit to this track is towards Leonard Cohen, I've forever been thinking "What if it's hallelujah?". These lyrics fit to the melody line "I heard there was a broken chord/that david played and it pleased the lord". Do you think Coldplay have used Hallelujah as their sample? Am I the only one who think that it was inspired by Sigur Rós? Especially in the first part of the song.

So in the second part of the song, the bass line sounds really familiar, like it's from another song, but I can't quite place it. Anyone hear it too? Or know what it is? Or am I just crazy?
