  15. Here's a good article from NME clearing up a few things, sorry the gifs are not in full, I tried http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/radioheads-burn-the-with-video-deciphered?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social Since Radiohead’s ‘Burn The Witch’ video hit YouTube yesterday (May 3) much of the discussion around it has focussed on the inspirations behind its story and animation style – here are five comparison points to watch out for. 1. The Trumptonshire trilogy (1966-1969) In the late sixties, three connected animated series – Camberwick Green, Trumpton, and Chigley – aired on the BBC, showing the way of life in idyllic little communities, and teaching children about community values. Those conventional lessons are something the video pillories by making its own values hideously screwed up. Some have even suggested the nod to Trumpton is, via its name, a reference to Donald Trump and his attitude towards anything outside America. Whether or not you think the reference can be taken that far, you'll easily see the similarity between Camberwick Green and the ‘model village’ of the video. https://gifs.com/gif/L9l9RW https://gifs.com/gif/mZVZoG 2. The Wicker Man (1973) The 1973 version of The Wicker Man – the better one, with Christopher Lee, not the 2006 one with Nicholas Cage – told the story of a devout Christian detective going to an island to investigate a disappearance. There, he finds a mad community of pagans indoctrinated by Lee’s laird, whose fruit farm’s success depends on pagan rituals, or so they believe. Among rituals like those you can see below, they also have a sacrificial effigy that houses a sacrifice – here and in the film, that’s the inspector. https://gifs.com/gif/n5V5jY https://gifs.com/gif/ER7Rmm This video is less explicit than the film, with the inspector climbing into the cage of his own accord, not being dragged into it, and at the end of the sequence he escapes, visible at the bottom left corner of the wide shot. In the film, he’s burnt to a crisp in front of the setting sun. https://gifs.com/gif/kRVRLr https://gifs.com/gif/rkNkoB https://gifs.com/gif/G676N3 Medieval Practices The menacing tone gets more bleakly anti-intellectual via medieval details such as the red crosses painted on doors – plague crosses that date back to 1665’s Great Plague of London – and what looks like a Beef Wellington made from an entire cow. https://gifs.com/gif/7373kG https://gifs.com/gif/o2920N 4. Jobe’s… Throughout the video are crates of tomatoes, a reference to the empty crates of Summerisle Fruit in The Wicker Man. Here, those crates are full to bursting and are plastered with “Jobe’s”. One of these is also used to light the effigy at the end of the clip. One Redditor has pointed out a possible connection to a company that makes organic fertiliser for tomatoes. That might explain why the fruit has grown in this version of the Wicker Man tale... but it's a bit of a stretch. Another reaction has been the comparison to Job, the pious man punished by god as a test in various Abrahamic religions – but as may be obvious, that isn't spelt Jobe. https://gifs.com/gif/W6z6X4 5. ‘Dawn Chorus’ A key part of the video is the bird singing cheerily at its open and close, ignorant of the lyrics’ nightmarish vision of mob-like communities. Radiohead have recently formed a company called ‘Dawn Chorus LLP’, and another called ‘Dawnnchoruss Ltd’, a tactic they have employed before prior to an album release to minimise the effect its success or failure has on any of their other albums. Their social media shutdown took place on the first Sunday in May – International Dawn Chorus Day – and they have a song called ‘Dawn Chorus’, which in March 2009 Thom Yorke said he was “trying to finish” and was “really great.” If the video's bird is a hint, hopefully we’ll be hearing 'Dawn Chorus' soon. https://gifs.com/gif/XDAD0l
  16. http://gizmodo.com/will-live-concerts-make-you-want-to-strap-vr-to-your-fa-1774659578 Will Live Concerts Make You Want to Strap VR to Your Face? With virtual reality headsets finally trickling out to the masses, content creators are searching for the Next Big Thing beyond gaming. Is it 360-degree film, in-depth immersive journalism, or next-level live coverage? NextVR and Live Nation are betting big on the latter with plans to stream hundreds of live concerts of over the next couple years. In this new world of VR content, NextVR is a leader. The company previously streamed a democratic debate in VR—with mixed results—and joined up with the NBA for some virtual coverage. Now, it’s bringing that same idea to concerts, covering hundreds of shows put on by Live Nation, one of the world’s biggest live entertainment outfits. The shows will start broadcasting this summer. This isn’t virtual reality’s first taste of 360-degree music-making. Another startup, Jaunt, worked with Sir Paul McCartney to bring a concert only millimeters away from your eyeballs. NextVR previously worked with Coldplay and Samsung back in 2014 to livestream a concert in 360-degrees. The idea comes with obvious benefits. Even if NextVR charges a small fee at the door (the company hasn’t specified what this will cost), it helps people who maybe couldn’t afford to attend a show, or live too far away experience the music. Have you seen what Sigur Ros tickets have been going for lately? Ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that services like Ticketmaster are a complete dumpster fire. While concert-going in virtual reality doesn’t sound immediately appealing— 270-degrees of drunk people singing the lyrics out of key is probably something you’d rather not experience—a camera smack dab in the middle of the stage would give you a whole new feel for live music. And as companies like Google continue to focus on improving binaural audio for VR systems, the music itself could sound surprisingly good. The bad news is Gear VR will be the only headset to get these streaming concerts, though NextVR promises more platforms are coming soon.
  17. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-36201807 Glastonbury to honour David Bowie and Prince By Mark Savage Music reporter Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage will be decorated with a giant lightning bolt in tribute to David Bowie, organiser Emily Eavis has told the BBC. The metal sculpture, inspired by the sleeve for Bowie's Aladdin Sane album, will hang above acts like Coldplay and Adele when they play the stage in June. The Park Stage will also host a performance of Philip Glass's Symphony No 4, based on Bowie's Heroes LP. Eavis added plans were also taking shape for a Prince tribute. The musician, who died last month at the age of 57, had long been rumoured as a potential headliner at the festival. Eavis confirmed his appearance had been "close to happening for three years" and called his death "a huge loss to music". 'Not moving site' Bowie did headline the festival in 2000, playing dozens of hits including Starman, Heroes, Let's Dance, China Girl and Life on Mars. Footage from the show - which Eavis called "the best festival set I've ever seen" - is due to be screened around the site this year. Eavis co-runs Glastonbury from her father, Michael, who established the event in 1970. She played down reports the festival was moving away from its base at Worthy Farm, but confirmed plans for a separate festival during the "fallow year" of 2018. "It's going to be the whole team behind the Glastonbury Festival but it's not going to be called Glastonbury," she said, explaining the event would be a "visual feast" featuring "larger-scale installations, as well as music". "The main thing to set straight is that Glastonbury Festival itself will always be at Worthy Farm."

  22. http://www.engadget.com/2016/05/04/nextvr-and-live-nation-team-up-to-stream-hundreds-of-concerts/ From engadget NextVR and Live Nation team up to stream 'hundreds' of concerts NextVR has already brought many important firsts when it comes to live VR broadcasting, so after golf, NASCAR, political debates and basketball, it's targeting live music. The company is teaming up with concert promoter Live Nation to stream "hundreds" of performances in virtual reality to fans worldwide. To increase the you-are-there feeling that makes VR broadcasts unique, it's planning "optimized" 3D audio to go along with the views from the front row, on-stage and backstage. A short Coldplay clip was part of the company's initial demo reel on NextVR's app, and concerts felt like a natural fit for what it's trying to do. At its best, it can bring everything we love about concert going and provide a special view of artists at work -- all without getting shoved by fellow fans or charged exorbitant service fees for tickets. The concert broadcast schedule is still TBA, but the first live event will take place this summer, available in NextVR's free app for the Gear VR headset (support for additional VR platforms is also coming soon, but not yet announced). Live Nation says it's the "largest producer" of live music concerts with over 25,000 events a year, so there's plenty to choose from and it promises a "regular supply of world-class music shows." Top tours currently listed on its website include everything from Beyoncé: The Formation World Tour or Drake Summer Sixteen to Steely Dan with Steve Winwood or or Journey and the Doobie Brothers -- hopefully we find out the schedule soon so I can make a decision on these Selena Gomez tickets.
