  1. Hmmmm, you're apparently the same age as me...we live 5 hours apart, if you live in Vancouver. Alright, I'll be there at about 7:30 AM with my guitar (and a gun and a pack of sandwiches). I'm sure somebody/many got that reference. Nah, of course kidding but...I've been thinking about creating music with other souls as of late.
  2. I want to start a band. :\ Anyone know how to play music around here?
  3. That's actually Guy Berryman trolling. 6 more posts til I hit 100...in almost 5 years!
  4. Well, it's not like STRFKR is a blow away band or anything but Reptilians is a pretty good record that I bought on a whim. Was pleasantly surprised. I really like their new stuff. Not sure about their old material. I wonder if albums ever leak as FLAC. Probably not because most people wouldn't be able to download them and know how to play them but then again...VLC is beast.
  5. Oh, here is a local Portland band...Starfucker. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEu39c23f34]STRFKR - The White of Noon - YouTube[/ame]
  6. Well, like I said earlier...Jose Gonzalez...His "side project band" Junip even though he was playing music with them before he recorded his first solo album in 2003...Check it out. Saw them live here in Portland in May. Good stuff. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7yaHnUPJLE]Junip - In Every Direction - YouTube[/ame]
  7. Both are quite awesome even if I have only just "discovered" them even though I was aware of them before. Too very different bands I've only just began to listen to them this past week and they are both quite awesome to me.
  8. Any Cat Power supporter is my friend...uh.....friend. ;)
  9. Yeah, I guess Joanna is a love/hate relationship with a lot of people. I bought Have One on Me a few months ago and I've yet to really delve into it yet. I still need Ys but from what I have heard it's a really attention grabber and I kind of like that. I really love The Milk-Eyed Mender. Her brittle voice really adds to that album, IMO. I really like Peach, Plum, Pear and Bridges and Balloons. That album, and all of her albums are kind of "fall" albums. Think mid November. Zonk, if Regina's (beautiful) voice gets on your nerve then Joanna would really get under your skin. :smug:
  10. I like your style. Love my female musicians. Cat Power, Joanna Newsom, Sharon Van Etten. Reminds me, I have to get the new Feist record. I liked what I have heard. I know The Needle Drop (Anthony Fantano) just today reviewed and gave it a 4/10, but eh that's a little low, IMO. Me too!
  11. Another song to make time go by. :) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO0gKd_XX6o]"What I'd Love to Hear You Say"- Faunts - YouTube[/ame]
  12. This guy sounds very familiar, I just can't put my finger on it. :inquisitive:
  13. I see some of us here like the same music. Me likey. :)
  14. Indeed! I just started listening to their music this past week and I'm looking to pick both of his albums up tomorrow. Also been listening to a Kylie Minogue cover by Jose Gonzalez called "Hand on Your Heart". This thread has really turned into the Anything Goes thread! :P [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucOjx01zwrE]José Gonsalez - Put Your Hand On Your Heart - YouTube[/ame]
  15. I'm listening to Bon Iver's "Holocene" while waiting. BEAUTIFUL. Also listening to Regina Spektor's "Dance Anthem of the 80's", "Ode to Divorce" and "Edit". Anyone like those songs?
  16. Well, yes I do. Giving an album a simple "7" can be very vague. Even if it's a 7, 7.5 to a 8 it's still kind of vague. For example in my "review system" a 7 is good but bordering on just decent, 7.25 is solid, 7.5 is solid bordering on very good, 7.75 is very good bordering on great and so on.
  17. I can hear the song quite clearly and I like what I'm hearing.
  18. Rough ratings for each album. MX might be updated to a 8.5/10 once I hear the full album. :) Parachutes: 7.75/10 A Rush of Blood to the Head: 8.75/10 X&Y: 7.75/10 Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends: 8.25/10 Mylo Xyloto: 8.25/10
  19. Yes, that could be too...plus the band (I think Will) said in a recent interview that they wanted the album to be under 45 minutes, so that makes sense. Anyway, as much as I'm excited to hear the songs we haven't heard yet, I'm just as excited to hear the studio versions of songs we have heard live already. Really wanna hear HLH and CB and of course all the others. :)
  20. Thanks for the review. :) If this review is correct, the album is indeed around 45 minutes long, which is probably a good thing. Say MX is 45 seconds long, M.M.I.X. is about a minute long, U.F.O. is about 4:00 minutes long, A Hopeful Transmission is about a minute long, DLIBYH is 4:00 minutes long and if UWTB is supposedly 3:30 minutes long..that is roughly 45 minutes. :wink3:
  21. Sounds like synth to me around the 2:50 until 3:05 mark.
  22. You can bet the studio version will have synth/strings judging by this live version.
