  1. Fulham have been excrement, but Bryan Ruiz with an absolute Golazo on his 2nd touch.
  2. *Taking the time to put in apropos thread cause reasons. The new Au Revoir Simone (Move In Spectrums) is better than I had feared. Not fantastic, but not bad.
  3. Halftime and Fulham with the only really clear cut chance.
  4. Unfair, Milan scores off of a deflection. Basel winning now.
  5. Celtic with most of the possession in Milan. Figure that.
  6. Messi with a perfect free kick goal.
  7. No, plenty of great goals. Toure's especially.
  8. A boring day altogether. All the favorites won handily except for maybe Juventus who showed great quality regardless and probably deserved the win.
  9. Good to see City being held steady by the Czech Barcelona. #jinx
  10. Came back just to tell you that Murca is going to Brazil. Okay, bye now...
  11. There were rumours of a move for Jack Cork, but I think that's been debunked. Not expecting more.
  12. Generally speaking, we've been over the moon with him until today. He's signed exactly the players we needed within budget and found a gem in Pajtim Kasami, who was our best player on the pitch the first two matches. Problem is, he didn't start today. I get that everyone wanted to see Berbatov and Bent gel, and that Ruiz is more experienced (if less effective) on the wing, but it clearly wasn't working. Since Berbatov refuses to chase the ball and Bent was nonexistent, we were basically at 10 men, and yet Jol refused to sub anyone. Still, no reason to call for his head, yet.
  13. Halftime, and not a goal in all 4 matches.
  14. Nah, it's cool. You're clearly a busy guy. By coincidence many of the tracks I had picked out were in a foreign language or used a bunch of voice samples, so I tried to run with that idea. I stumbled across Lucienne Boyer while trying to find 1920s period music to go with a 'murder mystery' english lesson I had to teach. Love the timbre of her voice. Aminals by Baths. I thought children making animal noises throughout would fit the theme. Surprised and pleased that you singled this one out. It's by Aus, the shiest, cutest, humblest asian guy I've ever had the fortune to meet. The Books. It's been a while since I've left them off a tape. I enjoy them because you're not just soaking up one person, but a weirdly scattered abundance of humanity. "We made our own government' by Lucky Dragons. It took me at least a hundred listens to realize that the voices were singing the title of the song. A composition by Germaine Tailleferre also from 1920s France that I found on an anthology of Les Six. I love how the accompaniment keeps changing around the melody during what you might call the "chorus". Were you thinking of any film in particular? 1988, close enough. :P This is an early My Bloody Valentine track called 'Cigarette in your Bed'. DJ Koze, though the vocals are by Daniel Snaith (Caribou). Haha, pretty much. It's actually just the one guy, Owen Pallett (here under the moniker 'Final Fantasy'). He uses a loop pedal for his live show. Thom Yorke off of his first solo project. Glad you like it. This is Daughter off of one their E.P.'s. Initially afraid this might be too chaotic, it's called 'Sukiyaki to Die For' by Co La. Lull by Andrew Bird. Thanks, I love the lyrics. I don't know who either of those are, haha. I guess I'll check them out after this. It's 'Michael A Grammar' by Broadcast. Recent Jon Hopkins, yeah the changes keep you on your toes. Does that mean you knew some of the other bands? It's Benoit Pioulard (real name is Tom). He does a lot of ambient music as well. Lykke Li! I like the mental image. I've been trying to fit this into a tape for years. It's 'Stanley Kubrick' by Mogwai. I hope you die. Sorry, that's the name of the song. The band is Wye Oak. Glad you like it! This is from the first Eluvium album, the track is called 'There wasn't anything'. I suppose this mix could just as easily have had a death or solitude theme. I stayed with my German relatives last Christmas, and my uncle kept playing an amazing Georges Moustaki record while telling me anecdotes about the songs. This is perhaps his most famous tune called 'Ma Solitude'. Considering how many times I listened to this tape on my way home from work, hoping that everything 'worked', this means a lot. Thanks for your honest review, it was well worth the wait. Tracklist: 1. Parlez Moi D'Amour - Lucienne Boyer (Parlez Moi D'Amour) 2. Aminals - Baths (Cerulean) 3. Different Sky - Aus (Light in August, Later) 4. Take Time - The Books (The Lemon of Pink) 5. We Made Our Own Government - Lucky Dragons (Rara Speaks) 6. Chansons Populaires Francaises - Germaine Tailleferre 7. Cigarette In Your Bed - My Bloody Valentine (You Made Me Realize EP) 8. Track ID Anyone? - DJ Koze feat. Caribou (Amygdala) 9. Many Lives -> 49mp - Final Fantasy (He Poos Clouds) 10. The Eraser - Thom Yorke (The Eraser) 11. The Woods - Daughter (His Young Heart) 12. Sukiyaki To Die For - Co La (Moody Coup) 13. Lull - Andrew Bird (Weather Systems) 14. Michael A Grammar - Broadcast (Tender Buttons) 15. Form By Firelight - Jon Hopkins (Immunity) 16. Lasted - Benoit Pioulard (Lasted) 17. Dance, Dance, Dance - Lykke Li (Youth Novels) 18. Stanley Kubrick - Mogwai (EP+6) 19. I Hope You Die - Wye Oak (My Neighbor/My Creator EP) 20. There Wasn't Anything - Eluvium (Lambent Material) 21. Ma Solitude - Georges Moustaki http://www.sendspace.com/file/h56h9d
  15. I wasn't questioning that. Anything less would be disrespectful to the tape maker. I got this as well. Silly exaggerations and the bit about Jamaican footsoldiers blah blah. I believe I said take yourself too seriously, because the parts I most objected to were where you would appear to be your most honest. Consistently you presented an authoritative, didactic tone. "This is garbage, and let me tell you why, because ignorant statement". No stranger is going to look at your shoegazing paragraph and assume that you're joking. And the fact that it was always 'this is bad' instead of the expected modesty 'sorry, not my cup of tea' added to that persona. There was a lot of lecturing for a review that apparently 'wasn't serious lol'. boo hoo. You're asking me? Feel free to cover them up if they hurt your feelings. I stand by the rest, which was quite decent and civil. So what/where exactly was the joke? You said that the review was your own opinion, and the way you saw the tape. The only way to exempt yourself from the parts I criticized would be to say your opinions are other than what you said. What am I supposed to be looking at, exactly? I suppose I don't understand why you would express believable opinions that aren't your own to dismiss something that someone else (who I'm guessing you're not on a first name basis with) took the time to create for you. Nor do I see how assuming a condescending and didactic tone makes the review easier to swallow. If it was a joke, I guess it was really poorly executed and I'll let it go. But I only buy that to a point. You really think that? What a beautiful world you must live in. Chill. Come, come. You didn't care I existed until the other day. No reason you should care now. I like you more after your reply, and the more we talk the more we will continue to understand/empathize. The aggressive tone of my post was to catalyze a response and resolve the disagreement/misunderstanding. Running away will make things much worse. I'm not a monster, am I?
  16. Never seen it. Probably a good thing, as I want to keep my bedtime fantasies alive.
  17. Not being a condescending asshole would be a good start. STEP 1: Don't take yourself too seriously, and have a sense of irony. 1. Who cares about the fucking title? 2. The whole review you feel the need to comment on the tape somehow being flawed for not matching the title, as if the maker sat down for hours trying to think of two words that epitomized their SERIOUS MASTERPIECE. ‘Summer Hits’ (together with the similarly amusing artwork) is such a generic title that most would have taken it to be intentionally cheesy on some level. But even if it is serious, why can’t a country song be a summer hit? Why is it a bad thing that there are different genre’s/vibes on this tape? You’re disappointed that the songs couldn’t be played on the radio? From this side, it’s like you were hoping for a comp. of top 40 singles you could order off your television (just so the title would make sense to you). STEP 2: Do not sarcastically criticize people for things that they were never obligated to do. I understand that a couple tracks were possibly edited, arranged by your sender. But nobody (that is, 98% of people who have participated in this exchange historically) “produces” or is expected to “produce” their mixtape. As someone who hasn’t heard the tape, I’m free to imagine a worst case-scenario. I imagine that I’m listening to a track that ends abruptly, or transitions starkly. Theories: 1. Maybe they really wanted to include a track that they really happen to love, even if it was impossible to include without an awkward beginning/ending. 2. Maybe they attempted to include a fade-out, but just couldn’t figure it out. 3. They’re an incompetent mixtape maker who couldn’t even be bothered to add a fade-out. STEP 3: If you’re going to be obnoxiously harsh, at least make sense. and STEP 4: Refrain from ‘factual’ dismissals. Ignoring the confusing and obnoxious descriptions of how god damn much you hate this song, your tone throughout this review seems to condescend from a pretty high horse. Even if the whole world agrees with you, only assholes say “This is garbage/This is shit” in response to a gift. Would it kill you to just say “Sorry, but I just can’t get into it/I’ve never liked this kind of music”? STEP 5: Don't dismiss whole music genres for incomprehensible/ignorant reasons. Fuck you. You’re saying that a genre that is held together by something as basic as gauzy guitar and subdued vocals shouldn’t exist? As if there’s something inherently evil about it? As if everyone stopped enjoying loud, atmospheric walls-of-sound in the 90s? Why would you make glib assumptions about a group's motivations? As if they couldn’t be playing shoegaze because they ENJOY IT. Of course, I’m not entirely sure you actually are listening to shoegazing because your gut response is to cite “Von.” As if Wave, Slowdive, or MBV have even the slightest similarity to that album. Your unimpeachable logic being: Von sucked – Agaetis Byrjun was good - Shoegazing sucks. Your snobbery is palpable. Try something else? We (who is we?) don’t want the same rubbish? Stop dictating how people should express themselves. STEP 6: Be open to and grateful for new experiences. Right, because it’s the artist’s fault that you can’t pigeonhole a piece of music. Mr. ‘We don’t want the same rubbish over and over again”. If you’re going to dismiss a track, have a better reason than, “it’s too experimental”. I…I...can’t. If you don’t realize what’s wrong with this, there’s no point telling you. STEP 7: Have better explanations than “It’s boring”. Qualify what that means, and understand that not all music is made to be “exciting”. What I love about the last comment is it implies you couldn’t even be bothered to finish the song. Anyway, I don’t mean to suggest that your tape was better or worse than your review of it, I don’t know. But it’s not a contest, and it’s no excuse to be obnoxious or to show off how much more YOU know about music.
  18. And that, kids, is how not to review a mixtape.

The people on tumblr are no different than people elsewhere. If you look for indie-music video optimism, you'll find indie-music video optimism. If you look for porn, you'll find porn. If you want depression and self-harm you'll find it, and if you just want pizza and puppies, you'll find both in large doses.
