i always like looking at those last.fm charts but at the end of the day it is pretty a popularity contest, an objective measure giving it a different sort of significance to critic lists. but i look forward to the top 10 and comparing it to the critic lists.

no kanye is only here to record with jay-z (who i am seeing) i havent got gorillaz tickets at the moment but they are selling them buy one get one free so i am considering again.

haha very funny mate and i agree with you there is no harm in listening to single songs. i spend hours and hours every day listening to the radio so it would be quite hypocritical of me to say otherwise. and i didnt know making a mixtape involves any musical talent or skill :P

a good album has its songs in a particular order and a lot of the time a good tracklisting can make or break an album. an ordinary album is nothing more than a collection of songs with no coherence or flow and i think thats what separates a great artist/band from the rest. anyone can write a decent song or two but only the truly gifted can write an album. just for the record, i would attribute my passion for music to Pink Floyd, who (i might be wrong here) actually sued itunes because they didnt want their music sold as individual tracks on itunes as they believed that their fans should only enjoy their music as they intended, that is as full albums and ive always prescribed to that belief.

dp EDIT: might as well make use of the double post. i think the word "genius" is aptly used to describe both men.

i think it has a lot more to do with the Damon factor and his connection to Blur, one of the most famous british bands in history. it doesn't matter what brand of music he makes or who he makes it with, the fact he has put his name to it and his voice makes all the difference. and you cant deny that a lot of coldplay fans love blur. i cant speak for the other kanye voters but i'm a big fan of both albums and both acts. so i dont want to degrade the quality of Plastic Beach or create the impression that im anti-damon or anything. it would not have received so many vote had it not been such a great album. hate to state the obvious. but lets not forget music is subjective and just because one album is more popular than the other doesnt mean it is better.

i still wouldve voted Kanye but it wouldve been a closer call. i still think it's a miracle that kanye got 13 votes on a coldplay forum. hold the same poll on a jay-z fan forum and im pretty sure you'll get a very different result.

i guess cricket isnt exactly the "hippest" sport out there lol. you have to be brought up to love the sport and that isnt happening as much these days. it's a tough sport to get into later in life. watson gone now and england back in control.

it has been a terrible year in australian sport. everything that couldve gone wrong has gone wrong this year. i guess we're used to doing well in everything so we're pretty sore losers when it doesnt go our way.

imo Superfast Jellyfish has the most insightful lyrics. on the surface they seem silly and nonsensical but you read them a few times and it's a great piece of social commentary.

it disturbs me just how out of touch the grammys are. fair enough have one album like lady gaga, i'll admit shes had a significant impact. but katy perry? eminem? they should just replace the title with "Highest Selling Album of the Year"
