I'm not a huge supporter of PETA, but come on, if they're trying to stop animals from being tortured then good for them. How often do people accidentally kill someone? Not much, and there's not much we can do to prevent it, aside from making cars safer and stuff. Torturing animals, on the other hand, can be stopped, and it's usually a sign of a mental disorder.
