Great idea for a thread, Wingwl!!! I honestly only got in to X & Y about a month ago. I bought it on it's first day of release but never really appreciated it. I didn't find it as accesible as Parachutes or as memorable as AROBTTH. It was darker, heavier, and I thought it was quite joy-less. About I month ago I started listening to all three albums again (kinda like a warm-up for VLV), and all of a sudden, I got "it". Still don't see the fuss that I read on this site about Swallowed In The Sea, but I've completely fallen for Twisted Logic, and I already loved the singles and "Til Kingdom Come" - that's probably in my all-time top 5 Coldplay. I was in a little bit of a strange point in my life - maybe I was just not in the right place for more challenging music? Now, as a wise man once said, "Life Is For Living", and I'm absolutely ready to be blown away by Viva La Vida.

I don't believe the album "landed" on any desk. I'm sure The Sun had to go to a listening session like everyone else

The journalist was writing about "Famous Old Painters" and "Glass of Water", ...songs which ultimately failed to make the final cut (though intriguingly, both names feature on a whiteboard in The Bakery's studio, under the words 'Flotsam & Jetsam'. "Just some ideas we have..." says Buckland, politely refusing to elaborate).

Can't remember the exact quote, but in the NME the other week (the one with the free 7inch) they were given a tour of The Bakery. The journalist commented on a list of songs labelled "Flotsam & Jetsam" that were written on a wall. They hinted at something happening with these songs... ... I think something else is coming

Why so little of Guy in the new I-Tunes ad? Thanks to eflat for somehow managing to capture his "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" close-up! Sorry... I have no idea how to include it in this message!

I don't care if it leaks. I've pre-ordered from I-Tunes so presumably it'll arrive shortly after midnight on the 12th, but I won't be listening to it until the late afternoon when I get home from work. I don't want to listen to it in chunks (the band keeps saying it needs to be heard in it's entirety!)... I don't want to be distracted by other stuff whilst listening in my car... I just want to come home, close the curtains, curl up in bed and soak up what I'm sure will be a classic album - no distractions, just me and my favourite band. Will probably have to get up to dance around the bedroom when Viva La Vida comes on though!
