What do you think of the new song 'Paradise'?
I love you. If I kidnap them, will you provide your garage? I'd even make you a fancy butterfly sign that says "This is the place in which Coldplay came to their senses".

REMINDER TO STAY CIVIL
We do understand that the atmosphere can get rather tense when a new single is being released, however we will not tolerate any insulting and antagonising behaviour and will remove posts, that break forum rules, without further notice. We appreciate discussion, but we will continue to monitor the tone of it. The Coldplaying.com Global Mod team

It sounds like a backstreet boys song (Songs that sound like Paradise)

to all the "real fans"
Like I said, learn some manners. I removed your duplicate thread in the Paradise-section btw. Creating a thread in multiple sub-boards just to get more attention is quite honestly not that different from spam.

Dear thread creator, I cannot be bothered to read your whole post. If you want to have a serious discussion, learn some manners and stop insulting. Sincerely, me, a true fan, yet not a pretentious asshole

Have they lost their minds?
Nobody attacks, we criticise. Being a fan also includes criticising. Criticising is a form of support.

Charlie Brown would have been a better choice for the 2nd single

Remember, this is a concept album
If they don't want a song from a concept album to be judged as a stand-alone song, then they shouldn't be putting out singles in the first place.

SERIOUS OPINIONS
I know, I've been arguing about this all day. I don't want a Yellow 2.0. And ...

It's clear: "Paradise" - made for new, not old fans
That is good for you. (Not being sarcastic here, really.) I cannot relate to this music at all though. I cannot relate to the lyrics, I cannot relate to this massive amount of effects. I'm not coming here to spoil anyone's soup. I'm coming here to voice my utter disappointment to get some solace. And being told that that makes me less of a fan or just a hater, is annoying.

Opinions are opinions
I don't see myself spreading hatred either. Sorry, I get your point, but it really goes both ways. I wouldn't even be so determined to express my opinion, if there weren't some ignorant "lovers" who tell me to shut up and just listen to the old stuff.

It's clear: "Paradise" - made for new, not old fans
1 - I didn't say tons of special effects make a bad movie. It is the case in many movies though. Take for example Transformers, it just overall has a bad story and lives from its special effects. That's how I feel about ETIAW and Paradise. They don't tell a story, they lack character, but they're being blown out of proportion with synths to make them look bigger than they actually are. 2 - I respect your opinion too and I'm not annoyed by you, because you are able to express your opinion respectfully. I'm however annoyed when people tell me to stfu and listen to the old albums them. I don't mean to spoil anyone's love for these songs, but as much as people have the right to express love continuously, I have the right to express my complete and utter disappointment. I am a true fan too, and that is the only reason I even bother to criticise. 3 - I didn't say that Chris' voice should be the main focus either. But if you check old recordings and compare them with live recordings, you'll see how much live and studio sound alike. That is in no way the case with the new songs. Chris' voice gets altered beyond normal sometimes and it just gets lost with all these synths and effects on his voice. 4 - Personally I think that Jonny's riff in ETIAW just seemed like something completely random and somewhat out of place. It seemed like they remembered in the last second that there was a guitarist and that they should probably give him a part in this song too.

Let's just calm down...
I'm not a frequent listener of either of those bands, so I wouldn't know. But for me, Coldplay gave up their identity when they put out ETIAW.

Let's just calm down...
The main point is that we don't like the new direction because they are giving up what makes them Coldplay. They are giving up their potential to appeal to a bigger audience. I never said MX sucks, nor did the majority of the "haters" (a term that clearly shows how some here simply can't accept any criticism), we talked about ETIAW and Paradise.
-
It's clear: "Paradise" - made for new, not old fans
Yeah, I thought the same about VLVODAAHF, not as much as about MX now though. It's not about the genre of music, it's not about it being pop, it's about it being really simple. I kind of see it as a movie with tons of special effects. Think about it ... If you watch an action movie for example, you'll have tons of eye candy, there are just so many visual effects and you'll think "Wow! What nowaday's technology can do!". Most of those movies will leave you with a feeling of discontent though. Yeah, there were tons of awesome visual effects, but if you'd get rid of them, there'd be like 10 minutes of story left. And what about those characters? Couldn't they have been a bit "deeper"? Now with ETIAW and Paradise I'm left with that exact feeling. It all seems to be blown up and like Coldplay discovered those means of creating songs electronically and just had to use them as much as possible. Instead of using it to support the uniqueness of Chris Martin's voice, his "character", it just completely overshadows it. Instead of letting Jonny tell a story with his guitar, like he did in, for example, In My Place (even if the riff was repetitive and easy), it's getting lost in all those synths and spectacular effects. That is what I call overproduced and that is why I'm concerned about this new direction.

Opinions are opinions
Uhm, I think being called a "hater" pretty much proves how some people simply can't accept negative opinions. I've seen dozens of comments that basically say that we're no true fans because we don't appreciate everything the band puts out. What kind of fucked up logic is that?!
-
Let's just calm down...
OMG, will you please stop saying we all want another Parachutes and AROBTTH?! This is not the point! Instead of bitching about the "haters", take your time and try to see their point and stop telling them to go to listen to old material. You are missing the point, massively!

Have they lost their minds?
This whole thread is constructive. You might want to read more closely if you think this thread is pointless. I don't see my opinion as a fact, but you know, you saying this whole thread is pointless just makes me think you see your opinion as a fact. There is criticism, it is justified and you will have to learn to accept that. If we didn't love this band, we wouldn't criticise. If we hated them, we would leave.

Have they lost their minds?
I never said it was a personal attack and I don't think anyone else did. It's just to say that no one here is opposed to change, but of course this kind of change is going to attract a lot of criticism, and not only from a handful of fans. They seem to be losing a majority of the fans that have stayed with them through thick and thin and supported them all the way through. How can that be a positive change? Sure, they're gonna make a lot of new fans with this kind of music. But are those fans ever going to give them the same kind of satisfaction that the "older" fans did? Are they ever going to start a postcards from far away project or are they just going to stay in front row holding a sign saying "CHRIS I WANT YOUR BABY!". I know this is a little exaggerated, but think about it, the fanbase will change drastically if they continue like this and if they haven't lost everything that makes them Coldplay yet, they will notice the change and I don't think they will like it much.
