  1. I got my secret Santa on Saturday though, will post pics later. Thank you, melanieau! Edit: Here's the pic: It's a little Christmas tree with an USB-plug, haha. :wacky:
  2. Where does it assume things? I don't see any prejudice either. Calling it a mess is pretty much what I feel too. The word latest just means that in his/her opinion they have produced a mess before, that doesn't mean he/she thinks every album and every little thing Coldplay has done was a mess though. A review is always subjective. You might discredit it all you want, but he/she has some very valid and true points and sums up what not only I feel, so I'm sorry to say this, but you have to accept the existence and credibility of this review as much as any other review that has been posted.
  3. Pretty much sums up my feelings about the album. I actually think the reviewer managed to stay civil and still be brutally honest. I don't think anyone should discredit this review because it is negative, it is the opinion of a lot of people I talked to off the board.
  4. I just replied to that. You're not the only one who thinks that and someone had actually posted a link to a soundcloud comparison of both songs (they quickly took it down though, it was only there for a few seconds). And let me tell you, it was exactly the same.
  5. Yeah, I think that's the main problem. I wish someone could put both parts in question over each other. Whether or not the song is too obscure and unknown for Coldplay to have ever heard it is not really the question. There are striking similarities (I'd go as far as saying it's basically the same melody) so she could potentially and, considering that she has already hired a lawyer, most likely will cause a lot of trouble for the band. I do agree that certain elements of the song remind of "typical" Asian songs, it's however more the way it is sung that reminds me. If the melody is actually a popular, old, often-used melody or her own work has to be decided by court though, I think. I don't think anyone here really says it's intention from the band's side, but I don't only see her as someone who wants to get money out of this, because I think she does have a point and one that is a lot stronger than Joe Satriani's ... and look what that has done to the band.
  6. Nobody has to feel sorry for liking something, really. Sometimes I would just really love to see some more objectivity from some people. But there's just so much blind following going on in the CP section that it almost scares me. It's like the band has become a sect. Nobody should force themself into disliking something because other people consider it bad, it just works the other way around too. I would really like to see some honest opinions from those who claim they love everything Coldplay do after the fact that it's Coldplay has been taken away. You know what I mean? When I see comments like "I love them no matter what", I would really like to ask what that person would think about this song if it wasn't a Coldplay song. I just feel like there are quite a few people that feel like they have to force themself into liking everything ... which is a scary thought if you think about it. Ah well, where has the time gone?! :o I'm better off to bed, haha.
  7. Hey, don't make me blush, I'm too used to being called a hipster/hater. :disappointed:
  8. I wouldn't mind the jumping much if it didn't have an impact on his singing tbh. I like his enthusiasm, but I think the music should always come first (especially considering what you have to pay to see them these days) and that means inevitably that he has to stay in tune. I don't expect him to sing perfectly all the time, in fact, I think it's part of his charme that he doesn't, but during certain songs it just get unbearable.
  9. Chosen to be? No. But they certainly wouldn't be able to buy mansions in London, have two studios of their own and play the world's biggest arenas. I wasn't talking about the music they chose to make. Of course the fanbase didn't make them produce AROBTTH. Meh, don't necessarily feel like this is what they want to do either. If it is, then fine. I'll have to accept that and move on eventually. At the moment I'm just really utterly disappointed and I need to vent somewhere. And yeah, these days, seeing those insane concert prices (at least here in Germany) and collabs with Rihanna, I feel like the main thing that bothers them is money.
  10. I meant the fanbase in itself though, not myself as a person. Of course I wasn't in the studio and watched over their shoulders. I never said I made them who they are musically. So, no I didn't ... Every band needs their fans to buy CDs, tickets whatever though. Technically I'm their customer and if I don't like their product, I simply don't buy it. It's not that easy with some bands for me though, because I got emotionally attached to Coldplay's music. That doesn't mean I want them to make the same record over and over again just to satisfy my personal needs, but it just means that I get very disappointed if they release music that I for one perceive as very shallow, generic and impersonal. It makes me wonder if they care about those fans that they won by making deep and personal (that's how I perceived it) music. I didn't say that the "old" audience is better, but I think it must feel less personal and less special for the band too if they have an audience that for a great part consists of people that don't really care much about the band per se, but mainly about those 2, 3 songs they heard on the radio and thought were cool ...
  11. I'm not saying it's happening right now and I do admit that I tend to exaggerate these days because I'm just overwhelmingly disappointed with this era, but I for one am shocked that that same Chris Martin who openly said in the Live 2003 interview that mainstream pop is just awful now releases songs with Rihanna and writes lyrics as shallow as the ones from ETIAW. I don't mind pop music, but I don't even feel like this is good pop music ... it's just mediocre and that's really the last place I expected Coldplay to go. Did I say anywhere that I specifically made them who they are? However, it was the fans who bought the records, who went to concerts and who sometimes gave their last penny to see them live. That doesn't mean they owe them anything, but I still feel gutted that they'd throw that away so easily to appeal to an audience that basically anyone can appeal to. Is that so hard to understand?
  12. Meh, I just really don't understand why he'd make/write even more songs in which he has to use his voice in ways that cause him trouble. Like the high-pitch that he really has to concentrate on these days to actually stay in tune. What baffles me and really makes me question his lack of dedication to his music though is that he wrote even more songs in which he can mindlessly jump around while only hitting every second tone. I don't mind it that much with VLV, but there's now a bunch of songs that just make him struggle live and worse is that he seemingly doesn't bother to actually stay in tune because jumping around is more fun.
  13. Of course his voice has changed, but his live voice still sounds so ridiculously different from his studio voice. Why all that editing? It sounds so polished both on VLV and on MX, completely unnecessary if you ask me. Uhm, how have they been attracting teens with Parachutes and AROBTTH? I really don't see it. And I don't think they've done it much with X&Y either. With this Rihanna/Paradise/ETIAW/DLIBYH-stuff they do mainly attract those teens who change their favourite act every few weeks. Great audience I must say. Really is gonna make any Coldplay concert so much more enjoyable. Sorry for the sarcasm but I'm really mad. I feel like they're kicking the fans that made them who they are away to sell more records to people that will have completely forgotten about them within a few months. There's just so much wrong with this whole situation for me. I'm really disappointed with them as a band and as human beings.
  14. I for one am a huge fan of Mr. I-stick-my-fingers-into-my-ears-and-sing-LALALALA
  17. I could really use a new Muse-album right now. :bigcry:
  18. I hope you spotted my sarcasm. xD
  19. I think I'm gonna give this a listen later ... :escaping:
  20. I think the main problem now is that she is in the States. If she had been in Vietnam, then it would've been pretty easy to "pay her off" and get rid of this issue promptly. However, she's in a nation of lawyers now ...
  21. Imke replied to LoryABjerre's topic in The Lounge
This totally just didn't make my morning. :blank:
  22. I still don't really think they plagiarised Joe Satriani ... but this woman has a pretty good case. :\ I don't think they necessarily did it with intention, but it is possible that they looked into songs from Asia to get a general, authentic "feel" for PoC. However, if they did it, then I don't understand how on earth they wouldn't double-check if they had used parts of the melodies from other songs.
  23. I feel like they're in an early midlife-crisis. They're in their mid-thirties, but they're trying so hard to attract 15-year-old girls. They're like that guy that starts an affair with a too young girl and cheats on his wife of 10 years, because he feels old. However, that guy will hopefully eventually see how pathetic that is and hopefully so will Coldplay. (The alternative being that the guy divorces his wife and stays with his affair who will eventually find herself another guy, because there's always a better-looking and younger guy with his traits.) Sorry, sometimes I just think too much in analogies. :shame:
