  1. Miles's face looking at Alex looking like a love-sick puppy as he sang Standing Next To Me :wacky: hahahahaha
  2. YES. This. :pleased: Check it out people. 'Specially if you like Oasis or Beady Eye or The Verve or the Arctics and all that guff - cos these are waaay better :P They're seriously damn good
  3. haha I'm still on the hipster list :cheesy: yay Actually, I find it rather amusing cos to me all the ones who voted for the arty-farty cardigan wearing stuff like Bon Iver & St Vincent are the hipster ones
  4. 4th  I always knew I was unique ;) Great lists Kim :)
  5. Thanks for compiling all the results girls - fantastic job. It won't be the same without you next time SC  Anyway, as much as I disagree with the top ten (Seeds at #11 :disgusted: !!) it's always interesting seeing the final list. Shame Coldplay couldn't defend their 'King of the Board' crown, but in all honesty, I'm not really surprised...maybe they'll raise the bar for their next one... :inquisitive:
  6. Well I'd have voted for El Camino too had I known the rules didn't apply to that album... :snobby: :P
  7. I think most of my list is in the 'one vote only' category..... and most of my choices have been beaten by Nickleback....ffs
  8. Aw thanks for the lovely review :cheesy: Glad you enjoyed it. I think I delibrately pick shorter songs cos I always worry about making a tape that feels too long, I don't want to make a tape that outstays it's welcome  Tracklist: 1 - Eventually - The Phoenix Foundation 2 - Intersect - Bill Ryder-Jones 3 - Little Black Submarines - The Black Keys 4 - Dangling Threads - Howard Eliott Payne 5 - Nightmare Day - The Moons 6 - (This Is For The Better) Days - The Bees 7 - Oh Fortune - Dan Mangan 8 - Citadel Shuffle - The See See 9 - Austere - The Joy Formidable 10 - Rolling Universe - Jonathan Wilson 11 - Heights of Diamond - Adam Haworth Stephens 12 - I Need You - The Stands 13 - Redemption - Frank Turner 14 - Another Turn In The Lock - The Coral Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?zx5ix7eejn5g252
  9. Oh wasn't Wild Beasts then ? hahaha nevermind.. Thanks for the tracklist - I'll defo be checking those last two bands out sometime soon
  10. Sack 'em off.... give us a link Rudy. I'll review it :nice:
  11. Yggdrasil's tape: 1 - Ooooh nice. Kind of shoegazey, I like the scuzzy guitars, the vocal's a bit understated tho, bit too quiet. Nice, I like this, although it goes on a bit overlong. 2 - Electronic-y, starts interesting and is lovely and melodic. Nice vocal, sounds a bit like a male version of Bjork. Nice. 3 - Yeeeaaahh Tame Impala  Great song off a great album, really dirty and grungey, love it. Good choice. Lucidity ~ Tame Impala 4 - Back to synth/electronic-y stuff. Again, quite nice and melodic, decent vocal. Not bad. 5 - Another good one - has an interesting mix of instrumentation; penny whistles, percussion, strings. Lovely. 6 - This is a very pretty little instrumental - sweet, summery. Very good. 7 - Acoustic-y and mellow. Guitars and harmonies are lovely. She's got a nice vocal, but this singing style is not usually my cup of tea. Lyrics are a bit odd, but it's a decent little tune. Not bad. 8 - Um, is this Wild Beasts? It sounds like it, from the singing. I've tried listening to them before, I've even seen them live at a festival, but I've never been able to get past the strange vocal, it's an acquired taste. Musically, tho it's a good song, the guitars are nice and a bit grungey - they just need a decent singer :P 9 - Spacey synths again, dreamy vocal - dunno what to say about this one, it's ok but a bit dull, sorry 10 - This one doesn't do much for me either, nice piano bits and it sounds nice an' all but it doesn't really go anywhere and again, it's a bit boring. 11 - Bit more upbeat this one, nice organs and drumming. The guitar's lovely. Not bad. 12 - Nice and chilled, very minimilistic. Not sure if I like her vocal or not, not really my sort of thing, but the song's quite good. 13 - Oooh something with a good, old drum beat to it, liking this one. Nice piano lines, spanish guitars, is that a sitar?? Anyway, good one this, i like. 14 - Oooh this is good too, nice Mew-like handclap percussion, bluesy guitars, vocal's a bit quiet tho, like it's got some effect on it. Good song tho, nice ender. Cool. Good tape overall, I really liked it, although there's a few too many of the more laidback tracks for my personal taste- I'd have appreciated a bit more electric guitar and a bit more ooomph, but that's just me. Good job
  12. ^ Sorry, but I waited so long that I gave up - me and Yggdrasil have swapped tapes so we can review each other. You're welcome to go ahead with your review tho, if u want...

    Godlike Genius
  14. I hope Bon Iver doesn't win..... :dozey: Boring...
  15. Is there anyone else waiting for their tape to be reviewed? Or is it just little ole me..? Cos if there's someone else waiting, then I thought we could review each other's tapes - I've given up on my partner, he/she's not posted for over a month & I'm fed up waiting... Can't we name & shame the ones that sign up and disappear?
  16. I think for the next exchange everyone should just make a mixtape, and then listen to the one they get and bloody review it. Oh and they shouldn't be allowed to sign up unless they can spare the time. Yeah, I'm not bitter..... :P
  17. Ooooo new album - that's good news  Facebook says 26th March for a release date
  18. I don't think mine's gonna get reviewed..... :bigcry:
  19. Hi Thalia :D Aw I hate it when that happens - you make a tape for someone and then they pull out and it goes to someone else, that's happened to me before and it sucks. Thanks for the tracklist :) and like I said it's a good tape, just not my cup of tea
  20. Ok, here's my review - I'm sorry it's not more positive but Apparatjik-aside, electronic-ey music isn't really my genre - it's not that I didn't like it, it's just that there was so much of the same sort of music that is just synths and very little else that it kind of made it hard for me to review (because there's not much there to describe or maybe because i don't know enough about that genre to notice the nuances and differences) Generally, I found the lack of variety of styles/instruments to be a bit monotonous, sorry. On the whole, it'd make a great tape of unobtrusive background music to play whilst doing something else but for me I like more guitars, more melody and especially on a mixtape, something that hooks you in and gets the track noticed. A good job though, please don't think I hated it or anything, cos I didn't :) 1 - nice atmosphere, blips and whistles. nice build up, an interesting instrumental but doesn't really seem to go anywhere 2 - god this is weird, sounds like german rap/reggae, it's got a good beat to it and it's catchy but i'm not a big fan of the vocal/singing style. 3 - another instrumental, quite like this one, it sounds like there's proper bass and guitar in here (which tbh is somewhat lacking in this mixtape) but there's still quite a bit of synths in there, it does build well and get more interesting towards the end. not bad. 4 - nice transistion into a calm, tinkly beginning then this relentlessly irritating drum machine beat gets added in & it's just another synth-based, electronic track that just plods along and doesn't really do anything much, it doesn't do anything for me, sorry 5 - starts promising, hopefully those are real drums for a change. don't like the girl's vocal tho. musically, i like this, it's got good, dirty guitar lines & just enough synths for me to me to cope with. sounds a bit like the joy formidable but the vocal lets it down, she sounds like a little girl, it's a bit annoying, plus the lyrics are quite bland. i do like the gong at the end tho haha 6 - hmmmm Apparatjik huh? Your Voice Needs Subtitles. Good choice, Maybe i'm biased but this is far more melodic to my ears then the other electronic tracks on the tape, i like the fact that the piano and the vocal dominates rather than the drum machine 7 - ok sensing more electronics, i guess this is more interesting than a relentless dance beat, it sounds nice, it almost sounds like something the beta band would do..almost 8 - starts off sounding like another a beta band-alike backing track, they had a better singer tho :P not too bad this one tho. still synth-ey but rockier and a bit grungey 9 - bit more variety in the instrumentation, which is very welcome at this stage - kind of like country banjo meets eastern strings, has a little indian flavour, i like it 10 - sounds vaguely familiar but not sure where i've heard it before, hang on - gorillaz is it? i like the laid-back, almost lazy beat and i don't normally like damon albarn's voice but he doesn't sound too annoying here, track's a little dull but not too bad 11 - dunno what to say about this, it's not bad, it's pretty harmless but it's dead boring, it's got one of those generic dance record singers, there's nothing remarkable about it 12 - pretty saturated with electronic tracks at this stage tbh, sorry. this is just another track laden with synths, drum machine and nothing else, it sounds ok, it's not a bad track or anything but i'm finding it hard to get enthusiastic about it
  21. The See See Goldheart Assembly The Sand Band Mew and hopefully something from The Coral *fingers crossed* and I'll be massively happy if we get a third The Stone Roses lp, jeez I think I'd explode with happiness if that happened :D
  22. Awwww no - me no want an extenstion me wants a tape to listen to *pouts* not fair :(
