Utterly Dissapointing ?
Is that supposed to mean that all the fans that are digging Viva La Vida are lying and trying to impress everyone by looking dedicated? Look, everyone's entitled to an opinion, but I don't think this album is all that far different from the others. Probably if anything you would have thought Viva La Vida to be the logical progression from A Rush of Blood To The Head, but instead we got the slightly overpowering melodrama of X&Y. Some of the tracks on this new album definitely retain elements of previous songs; Viva La Vida itself is classic stadium Coldplay with a bit of cello and violin; there are so many parallels evident between Death and All His Friends and Amsterdam; and Violet Hill also sounds very similar to a lot of their older stuff. If you listen closely I don't know if they've really "reinvented themselves" that much; I mean, it's certainly a distinctive change in sound, but I haven't ever listened to the new album and thought, "geez, I miss the 'old' Coldplay", or "this doesn't sound like Coldplay at all". To me it just seems like they're moving forward as part of a natural musical progression. Bands develop, bands change, bands move with the times. Listen to Sgt Pepper and then listen to the White Album...believe me, you will notice a difference. Meh, I've rambled and probably haven't made sense. The point is, Viva La Vida is exactly what I wanted Coldplay to make and they did. A gazillion times better than X&Y and even just slightly better than A Rush of Blood in my opinion. ;) peace

yo ho chinchillas
Yo. Newbie here. 18. Australian. University Student. Facebook whore. Dancefloor demon. Meant to be studying for exams. Procrastinating...badly. Anyway, I resisted the urge to download or youtube Coldplay in the leadup to this album - I wanted to hear the whole thing with fresh ears from start to finish. My birthday was on Friday and I duly received the album, as I had asked. Listened to it on my own in my room that night. I must say, it's better than any predecessor. A Rush of Blood To The Head, you have been officially topped. Having said that...Amsterdam remains my favourite track. Okay - now it really is study time. Oh, and I'm a guy...if you were wondering.... :S lol peace ;)

Reign of Love Appreciation Thread
I really like the whole thing as a track "Lovers In Japan/Reign of Love". Reign of Love could easily be misconstrued as overly simple, X&Y-style melodrama, but hey, who doesn't like a bit of melodrama every now and again? :P

Coldplay Likes Lost! a lot more than us
I don't care what anyone else thinks, this song is super-dooper. Bollywood and trippy strings and simple lyrics and it makes you bop your head. It's poppy but not really poppy. I don't know, I can't explain it. I'm a fan anyway.

Life in Technicolor: what do you think?
Beautiful in its simplicity. Would've loved it if they'd developed it into a fully-fledged track with lyrics, but at least we get a return of the theme in "The Escapist". The perfect bookends.

25 FAVORITE COLDPLAY SONGS- ULTIMATE COLDPLAYING BRACKET NOMINATIONS!!!
In order. :P 1. Amsterdam 2. Viva La Vida 3. Violet Hill 4. Lovers In Japan/Reign of Love 5. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face 6. Don't Panic 7. Green Eyes 8. Twisted Logic 9. In My Place 10. Yellow 11. Swallowed in the Sea 12. Clocks 13. Lost! 14. Politik 15. Strawberry Swing 16. Life In Technicolo(u)r 17. A Rush of Blood To the Head 18. Death and All His Friends 19. X&Y 20. Yes 21. Shiver 22. Warning Sign 23. Speed of Sound 24. Spies 25. Cemeteries of London As you can see, the list is heavily weighted towards the new album. I'm new, by the way, and I just had to get this off my chest. I love Parachutes, A Rush of Blood To The Head was amazing, and X&Y sucked. And then came Viva La Vida. Magnificent, mind-blowing...okay, maybe that's a little melodramatic, but I thought Coldplay had got lost in nursery-rhyme, try-hard melancholic rock with X&Y. I was so, so wrong. This album is sensational sh*t. /rant... ;) peace
