  1. When it was announced that their open-air arena tour was going to be "different" to their indoor one, I had expected the bigger stage to accomodate an orchestra or at least a string quartet for VLV, and was disappointed when it didn't. Their own instrumental version of VLV is exquisite BTW, but then isn't the song already?
  2. There is bias in all media. What is worrying about Rupert Murdoch though is the power he appears to be exerting over the UK Parliament in general.
  3. I agree with Chris (not Chris :) ) Martin. The Conservatives are nothing like the Republicans in the US (thank God!) . An independent studies of parties and their policies rated them on how left/ right wing they are (back in 2009 I think) based on policies like taxation, abortion, gun control, gay rights, etc. In it, the UK Conservatives were placed to the left of the US Democrats (a party Chris has been known to support). It also does not suprise me that David Cameron has gone into partnership with the Liberal party here. This would never happen in the US. Over the last 20 years, the Republicans have become more and more right wing in the US, whilst the Coservatives more and more left wing.
  4. LOL - I didn't think something I noticed at the conference would turn into a political debate (I've been following all the conferences this year for various reasons ). However, I do agree with that policy - rich people should not get state support for their kids. It's funny everyone in the UK's been complaining about 2-party politics for years. Now that we have genuine 3-party politics people are complaining about that too  I have high hopes for this coaltion: let it be judged by the state of fairness and poverty in 5 years time. One thing is for sure: the gap between rich and poor widened in the last 13 years from a party supposedly championing the poor but spent its time obsessed with the mega-rich.
  5. Keane? Where / when was Keane music used? I noted also Viva La Vida (played by the BBC in the run up to Ed Milliband's speech at the Labour conference). Viva La Vida is becoming synonymous with political programmes isn't it?
  6. Did I just hear Life In Technicolour at the Conservative Party conference in the warm-up video for David Cameron? How times have changed!
  7. Perhaps Coldplay could re-arrange the current theme as the one they are currently using (for Matt Smith) is dire! I had read a few years ago that Chris was a fan of the series, but as with all things on t'internet not sure how true that was! I think they should cameo in it one day - either as the band playing at a gig, or Hitchock-esque cameos (subtly, and with 4 separate cameos throughout the course of one story!)
  8. Yes, I know: no 19 looks nothing like their studio; whilst 17 looks nothing like a church (didn't they say they had been recording in an old church before last Christmas?). I still say the church recording was somewhere else, and no 17 is the Beehive (not 19 - or even the entrance to it!)
  9. It doesn't seem likely that the building you show is their studio (unless it has been significantly redressed for a sale). In addition, number 17 looks nothing like a Church to me!
  10. You're obsessing over which door Coldplay uses and how it connects to the main building? Are you a Doctor Who scriptwriter? :P
  11. That's easily answered! Chris Martin has invented time travel and there's a wormhole connecting the two buildings together. He studied Einstein's theory of relativity closely in order to : a) prepare for the solar system theme based next album b) to create a wormhole to annoy obsessive fandom about where the Beehive actually is* * I have it on good authority the real location is on a newly discovered moon of Jupiter (Coldplay have taken such radical steps to avoid being disturbed, plus they're the only guys left in the UK with susbstantial wealth to invest in time travel technology) :P
  12. ^ The post before last is very funny. If any of Coldplay are reading this they must be pissing themselves laughing that although their new building has been 'discovered' its exact location is causing so such concern and arguments amongst certain corners of fandom! Re secret tunnels between buildings, it sounds like Whitehall! I hope Coldplay are not developing a bunker mentality in the face of obsessive fandom!
  13. I bought the 2003 DVD fairly soon after it came out, and despite watching it numerous times only came across the extra last year! The tour diary is very good, and it's nice also because for once Guy does a lot of the talking which makes a nice change to have it from a different perspective (no offence to Chris, but we hear him all the time!)
  14. No, but I haven't heard it yet.... I was hoping to hear a snippet in the SBS documentary last year but it never emerged! Rare songs, are those songs not properly cooked? :wink3:
  15. No I haven't yet! I think the chances of Chris singing that song posted above are as high as him singing Swing Low, Sweet Chariot! :-)
  16. How others see you is not necessarily how you see yourself! I know, and the point I was making was that how others see your actions are not always how you see yourself. I know very well they're not mean spirited but to give no good reason and to ignore fan requests comes across very badly, even if the intent (wanting the best possible quality, not wanting to rip fans off) is good. I made the point that my remark about comparing the Wembley gig to U2's PopMart tour caused offence in the Coldplay camp . They mistook the meaning - that I was saying the album was poor and their musical performance was bad. Nothing of sort - my comparison was made based on the visuals and the show, and that to my mind U2 were one of the first bands to up the game for tours with their live shows. and that they had met, if not excelled this high standard. My intent was good too. It just goes to show perception works both ways. :)
  17. I'd love a Christmas song too Chris - it's just I think it's highly unlikely whilst the XXXX-factor is running. (I will be supporting the campaign for FairyTale of New York to be this year's UK CHristmas No 1)
  18. Perhaps. Maybe their concern is ironically they don't want to be seen fleecing fans at a time of recession? If so, they could easily solve that problem by donating all profits from DVD sales to charity. As things stand you have all those unofficial DVDs popping up which do fleece the unsuspecting avid fan because they're all rubbish. An official one would kill those off.
  19. Of that list, I've only heard Billie Jean (at Wembley) - and I think of all their covers only Have Yourselves a Merry Little Christmas is (sort of) available. Chris also covered the song used for the closing credits of the Extras episode he was in (which name escapes me now). I had no idea they'd covered Perfect Day (love that song) - link anyone? As for covering Travis, perhaps they would cover Why Does it Always Rain on Me? but it would have be tongue in cheek for them to pull it off! Perhaps @ Glastonbury next year? :)
  20. Coldplay - and Chris especially - have claimed to be fans of many bands over the years - who and what would you like to see covered by them (to my knowledge - they've only covered Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas to date ??) I'd like to see Pet Shop Boys' West End Girls covered. They could get Jay-Z for the talking rapping sections and Chris' voice would be great for the choruses. Being Coldplay as well, they'd do a stunning video of their home city of London (just in time for the 2012 Olympics!) Also Chris has said they're fan of PSB and they can return the flattery of VLV done by the PSB ! What would you like to see done?
  21. It could well be that Coldplay did actually use an old Church for some recording sessions until the building work was completed in this building (early in the New Year according to their blogs) I doubt they would have wanted to work around all the building work going on, and they did say they had abandoned the Bakery after VLV tour I wouldn't be suprised if they get a third building for the next album!
  22. Oh that site is really sick! I thought it was a clever paraody of extreme fandom and evangelicals at first, but no - its deadly serious Can I be bold and ask Coldplay747 if he's linked to the band at all? (just a theory I have :) )
  23. Behind the scenes issue? Well I don't think we should do that - our energies would be better diverted elsewhere - such as helping the people of Haiti whom despite the awareness at the start of the year when the earthquake happened, are still dying amongst the rubble with the hurricane season well and truly upon them now. They still need our help, and we would be better diverting our energies to that. As for the reasons for not releasing one, although speculation, I cannot believe Coldplay would simply want to piss off their fans. It makes no sense. I was lucky enough to attend two of their UK performances - once at the 02 and once at Wembley, with very different experiences (right at the back for the first, right at the front for the second). The memories of those concerts will live with me forever, I had a really great time at both (as I said in my photoblog last year following the 19th Sept gig, their spectacle reminded me of what U2 had achieved with their PopMart tour - I later heard someone had taken offence at that remark - it was taken out of context - I wasn't comparing the music of U2's Pop to VLV - (for the record, I'm a U2 fan also but I never bought Pop because I didn't like it at all and it remains their only album I don't own- I was going to see them for the tracks from The Joshua Tree and Rattle & Hum). I was comparing the tour from a visual perspective and what U2 had achieved with their lighting and visuals so that they added much more to their live performance. What was meant as a great compliment was taken as an insult it seems Anyway I digress - I cannot see Coldplay being so mean spirited as to deny the joy of their live performance to those who were not so lucky to be able to attend one of their concerts - it happens through a number of reasons (family illnesses, grief, job problems etc) I think the real reason is there has been a behind the scenes issue we are unaware of as fans - be it a falling out with the guy comissioned for their tour footage, or a rights issue that just hasn't been settled (i.e. what exactly did happen with the Sitriani case?) I want to give the band the benefit of the doubt and believe it's a behind the scenes issue causing problems which they'd prefer not to discuss. They don't stike me as mean spirited at all, and my quip about Chris' vanity at the start of this thread was just that - a quip - I'm sure he's not that vain either! :)
