Who's up for meeting before the gig at the 02 for a few quick drinks? Are there any restrictions on cameras for the event? Re leaving: it is a bit of a mad dash to North Greenwich post gig, but it seems to cope well. I was last at the 02 a few months ago for a gig (also ran late) and there were no problems.

Guitarist Joe Satriani sues Coldplay for plagiarism
Simon, your current signature pic: is that the Christmas card Coldplay are sending Satriani? :)

Marcos I think we need to drop the issue and move on. I still agree with you about the fact it was done before the competition was opened being unfair though, but life is unfair, isn't it?

Guitarist Joe Satriani sues Coldplay for plagiarism
Of course! That's why we love them! I think the two very different responses tells us a lot about each side here. Re the case, for "subconcious copying" that could get quite philiophical - however, one thing people are overlooking is lawyers and sense of humours are usually mutually exclusive. Chris' many quips about plagarising other bands over the years will be used against him I fear.

Given Satriani has requested a trial by jury and such trials are usually broadcast on TV in the US, this could be the most watched court case in history.

Quite possibly, may explain rubbish narrative.

Did they? What's their type then? Muscle Marys, cubs, bears or twinks? :)

Lost? Video Competition: Post YouTube Entries Here!
Correct me if I misunderstood the contest, but my understanding was it was a fan video on a shoestring budget. Both these entries are technically brilliant, there's no doubting that, but in both cases they've obviously had thousands of € / $ chucked at them. When you film with professional equipment costing thousands of £, of course you're going to get better results that someone with a basic camcorder. Add to that the superiority of professional editing software like Final Cut (which isn't cheap) etc etc and suddenly you have a different ball game entirely. Perhaps the context of the competition was ambiguous, but chances are I wouldn't have entered if I thought I was up against professional filmmakers who do it for a living. The outcome is obvious. If Coldplay's objective in the long term is a break away from their record label and this was an exercise to find a filmaker for them for their future vidoes, I don't have a problem with that. In fact, it was a smart move on their part because they saved time interviewing and looking over portfolios etc, not to mention any recruitment fees too. However, it was a bit unfair to compare mulit thousand dollar productions with those costing a few hundred at best, if that. Surely they should have had several categories, best fan video, best professional video, best technical, best idea? Then everyone would have been happy. Having 24 hours to reflect and the dust to settle, from a technical standpoint the winner is superb; however, I really don't think it has a good narrative at all. The Socks video does, as do countless other fan videos I've seen. In addition, it's been pointed out it was made before the competition opened, so they weren't subject to all the time constraints and rushing the rest of us were. They're comparing apples with oranges. The runner up is great both technically and in narrative and fits the album ideas very well. Why this didn't come first I can't imagine (given that both are professional) but there were other videos out there with similar narratives done on a much smaller budget. My gripe isn't I didn't win, but that they choose not one, but two professional videos. Even if we didn't win, it would have been nice to have seen a fellow fan winning it,: an ordinary fan done good. A lot of dreams died yesterday.

I rather find it odd that a story re the shooting of the runner up film was posted on this site by the mods about two weeks ago! Perhaps those "in the know" knew something we didn't? We all learnt a lesson here: money triumphs over everything else! That's life!

LOL, I share your frustration at them choosing film companies (and not home made) entries. All I can say is they should consider themselves lucky we've put up with their homemade clothes these last 6 months and not eschew them for not having the satorial elegance to shop at Armani!

Lost? Video Competition: Post YouTube Entries Here!
I think it's very good technically however I'm rather annoyed to learn it's a) made before the competition opened (and thus not subject to the time constraints we all were) and b) it's a professional film making company doing it, as was the runner up!

Lost? Video Competition: Post YouTube Entries Here!
Are we sure about that for the winning entry? That's certainly true for the runner up but I'm not sure that's the case for 1) If it is, it kinds of defeats the whole idea of a fan video competiition. Why ask fans to produce a video, if you wanted a professionally made one. Why didn't they just commission one and post it up on their site, like they did with Lovers in Japan! Here's an idea for Coldplay to redeem themselves. Hold a gig open to all the competition entry peeps (or alternatively one in UK, US, Aus, EU) and invite the entrants + 1 guest to it (non expenses paid this time). It would be a nice way to say thanks and a chance for us all to meet the band.

Wasn't the runner up video the shoot you reported on this forum a while back? Wasn't it a professional video company that made it? The winner is amazing, and well deserved!

Lost? Video Competition: Post YouTube Entries Here!
Funny you think that, i think that too. Looking at the entries, the videos excel in different ways: technically, artitstically, visually. Add to the mix Coldplay are aware of feeling like they've snubbed their UK fans, but at the same time, would not just want to reward a UK entry for favouritism I can easily see there being 3 winners... "and the nominations for most creative entry are...."

Well Boris was good entertainment value as usual - the only contestant to have spun the car on every corner in the trial laps! :)

It sounds from Ancorman's statement it was more than that... who knows? Maybe one day Chris will tell us the down and dirty on the story.

I sometimes think that all gay men should learn to box. Why? Much as the armour of gay men is wit (which cannot be rejoindered by most straight men), it takes the straight men completely by suprise if you can! Even the straight guys who try to emulate our fabulousness (of which Chris Martin is one: defintely staight, sorry to disappoint those right-wing Republicans! :) ) he sometimes has to resort to the fist too! (esp. with the Paparazzi). I used to think violence and failure of the imagination were closely intertwined. They are: but sometimes the only answer to these numbskulls is a language they understand! "just because I'm sensitve... doesn't mean I can't box...." :)

You just reminded me why I can't stand the Guardian: insufferably pompous!

Completely agree. I note that the anti-gay comments stem often (but not exclusively) from the US, where a small minority of its population still hasn't grown up (obviously Republicans ;) ) I sometimes parody that sentiment myself with tongue in cheek references to the band to show how ludicrous it is. I know fellow Coldplayers will get the in-joke! :)

If someone had sued me over a few musical notes I don't think I'd be too enamoured with them. I guess we can assume that the delay was because of discussions behind closed doors and Coldplay told them to go hang. If you play the two songs side by side there's only a tiny section that's similar.[/i ]. The fact that Chris Martin sounds like he's on helium for the comparison to even be similar indicates how desparate someone is. The action to me looks like the same vein as Creaky Boards: sad, mean, and rather pathetic too ( I lost respect for the Rolling Stones btw when they did a similar thing to Richard Ashcroft of the Verve... after loosing that case Richard Ashcroft responder with a wonderfully witty rejoinder: "This is the best song Jagger and Richards have written in 20 years."

The Church of Chris Martin. (Update: Have declared a TRUCE to the holy war on Coldplaying!)
An AMerican parody? Not likely, sadly. When I first saw that site I assumed it must be a very tongue-in-cheek parody of all those American Christian fundamentalists. Sadly, I think it's deadly serious.... it's just creepy.
